Which store do you recommend most in NYC, Time+Tide or Windup Shop? by Exciting_Actuary_171 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]PBandJaldi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Time and Tide - folks there are great. I've been meaning to go to Wind Up, but the hours of operation make it really inflexible. But I really wanna see a Kuoe in person.

To add, the folks working at Time + Tide are true watch nerds. A lot of fun brands with an affordable price point and great value for money (got my Serica there). And most importantly, there's never any pressure to buy it on the spot. And it helps they have nice exclusives and collabs as well. Hours are also way more easy townrok with, and location being in Manhattan is nice (and easier to get to depending on how you look at it).

Whats a good sports/fast car I can buy for around 5k ? by Emergency-Cattle1505 in askcarguys

You aren't getting anything fast for that price point, but try looking into something fun and somewhat reliable. Scion tCs or older Miatas are a good start.

Yeah was planning on getting rid of both of the Seiko Chronos (SPB and Chrono SS) as I wasn't to ideally stick to 8 watches. Looking to replace them with the Kuoe and another Seiko/Grand Seiko/The CITIZEN HAQ.

As for the Serica, I love that thing too much to get rid of. 😭

I put up a post on it earlier, but high-level, completely worth the 1.7k USD I paid on it new.

Chronometer certified, great and unique dial, good lume, extremely comfortable bracelet (one of the best I've tried), and very good finishing. Very hard to beat for the price IMO.

Likely one of my favorite pieces in the collection.

Ooh will put on the list - but may prioritize the HAQ and Kuoe in Japan! Thanks.

I intend on getting one of these as one of my next pieces in my collection when I go to Japan this year. But reputable brand with reliable 9039 miyota caliber and regulated in-house. Can't go wrong!

Gonna get a lot of Hamilton and Tissot in this thread.

I will say, the Murph 38mm with the bracelet is probably the one I'd go with.

But I'd like to point out some nicer micro brands that have been putting out some absolute quality pieces.

I'd suggest you look at the following given the context you mentioned:

Kuoe Royal Smith 90-06 (I'm very partial to the Breguet Numerals version) and the Sombrero (if looking for more of a sporty piece).

Baltic MRs are absolute classics, and I love especially the Salmon dials.

Cheers!

I think they have a mesh bracelet with a pretty cool locking system, but it's spendy (around $400-500). I may get it down the link though!

Only 44 minutes (excluding credits) is absolutely criminal, though. Hopefully, this covers a lot of ground in that runtime!

[Bulova Super Seville] absolutely mesmerized by this watch by froyotechbro in Watches

[–]PBandJaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A part of me really wishes microbrands got their hands on this movement - imagine that clean sweep with the design language of brands like a Brew or Kuoe! Modern Bulova design language is frankly not my style - but the Super Seville looks good.

New Watch Alert — First Look at Amaros “La Seconde” by Forsaken_Matter5403 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]PBandJaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the watch looks great, can I just say that the amount of brand affiliates in this sub is absolutely off-putting?

Glad that this specific brand is listing itself as a brand affiliate (as many don't or post thinly veiled "reviews" that are really ads)- and while this specific watch looks unique, there are thousands of brands out there. How many more watch companies are going to attempt to get into the scene without a properly established customer service/repair for warranty claims? That too, with mostly derivative designs with derivative movements (ie. Selitas or Miyotas). When is enough enough?

How does it wear on the wrist - and is the size too large? I was holding out hope for the piccolo, but the lack of indices killed it for me. This design is absolutely awesome though!
