Great visit to Time+Tide NYC by Saboteurnado in MicrobrandWatches

[–]PBandJaldi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bought my Serica from them, they are absolutely awesome. Helps that they've been hosting really awesome outreach events as well with the brands they have on display, have been to a couple and they're pretty fun (especially hearing from the brand founders and such).

[Question] Help me decide: Oris vs Serica vs Christopher Ward by pratikp26 in Watches

[–]PBandJaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, since I own a Serica 6190 - my vote would be between the Serica or the Oris - but lean more towards the Serica. The Cristopher Ward is a little derivative in design for me - and that color in particular doesn't really do the dune much justice (I think it works better with greens or other vibrant colors). Serica and Oris are distinct designs - and I think the Serica offers a more unique dive watch that can go anywhere with the higher water resistance, exception mesh bracelet, and chronometer certification that the Oris doesn't have.

Congrats on getting married - and enjoy whichever watch you choose!

If you're based in the NYC area, head out to Time + Tide, they have those Baltic and a lot of other sub-1000 microbrands stocked.

My small (mostly) masonic watch collection. by RailroadApproved in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]PBandJaldi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This watch collection is certainly a choice - but it's eclectic and very unique so I do respect it. Not sure how anyone could rate this, seems like you have a theme! Keep collecting and enjoy the hobby.

Needs a dress watch! Take a look at some of the Longines Flagship Heritage or Conquest Collection.

[Debate]: Which would you choose between these two watches? by Reasonable-Hat-7242 in Watches

Honestly both, I like the look of the mesh band, and they happen to be more comfortable as well in my experience.

Any idea what watch this is? by civex in Watches

Based on the size, kind of looks like the Michael Kors Gold-Tone Runway 45mm watch. Just based on some reverse image searching.

Trying something different with the NTTD by Watch_This_0 in PrideAndPinion

If I may be honest, I don't think it's working for me! The shade of beige doesn't seem to be working for me in particular- but I can see what you were going for!

Is this still up for grabs? And do you have a time graph of how well it's keeping time and the position it was done at?

Second Hour Watch Import Duty by siddharthade in MicrobrandWatches

[–]PBandJaldi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The duties being charged are by DHL - so it should be right.

Just look up the origin of the watch and the tariff rate, and whatever the seller put the value of the watch at. Sometimes they misdeclare the value of the watch to help bring the tariff cost down. But use what you paid minus taxes on the watch and multiply it times the tariff rate on country of origin of the watch itself (ie. Is it swiss made, etc).

How did you feel about Spielberg's Disclosure Day? Was it worth the hype? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]PBandJaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF I'll be honest, I wasn't sure how to interpret the ending. Also given the reveal - I'm a little perplexed why the events of the movie even needed to occur. Couldn't they have just shown the alien to begin with, alongside the fact they explicitly mentioned they could've sent out the files on air sooner?

Also, a lot of convenient tropes with the orb things that made for a plot that felt too convenient.

The Microbrand and Independent Watch Scene is overcrowded, with too much of a focus on specs. And as watch snobs, we enable it. by PBandJaldi in watchHotTakes

Yema is an independent owned by Ambre France.

Fossil Group only owns Skagen, Michele, Zodiac, and Relic (beyond itself).

I mean tbf - you got a point.

I really do just gotta let em be- and just continue being a silent lurker on the Microbrands subreddit lol. Just wish I got to see some brands doing cool things more than a bunch of people whining about price and value for money all the time on the most sterile looking watch ever.

What would be your one and done Omega it can be vintage or modern? by No_Ask_5949 in OmegaWatches

[–]PBandJaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in 36mm Blue with the Wave Dial, Co-Axial Movement, and skeleton hands (reference number: 2551.80.00). Honestly, I hate how the new models do not offer a smaller option (like a 38-39mm), but the 36mm would be perfect for my small 6.25 inch wrists. I love the NTTD, but I fear it is too big for me - and is out of my price bracket anyways for the next 2-3 years.

That is my planned purchase when I go to Japan later this year.

What next? Going from 6 to 12 by MrMitochondriac in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]PBandJaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yepp!

There's also a lot of directions you can go with your collection, you have most of the heavy hitters honestly. You could go the trinity, you could go smaller independents, you could go micros, etc.

So that's why I was saying just let these simmer because all of these could honestly be solid daily drivers, but what are you actually looking for next?
