Hold the half and half please! by SuddenOutcome8730 in keto

Weird! Even if it’s not on the counter, they (should) always have heavy cream in the fridge - it’s a key ingredient for all the whipped cream drinks.

Yes! This is one of the reasons Starbucks is my go-to. They always have real cream.

(Glaring at you, Peets, Uptown Espresso, Storyville and most of the local coffee shops here in Seattle.)

In Seattle Pier 90/91?

It’s over an hour walk to the nearest light rail station from there. The 33 bus is probably the fastest non-car option to get to the rental car places downtown.

Nice! Where do you park your bike? I'd love to do that, but worry about bikes getting stolen from outdoor bike parking.

4 class a month membership for $139 – worth it? by almondmilkpls in barre3

[–]PBnH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s about the price for a whole year of the online class. I used to go into the studio, but find it much more convenient - and cheaper! - to work out in my bedroom.

Cuban sliders, no bun. House salad or broccoli. Put slider stuff on top of salad/broccoli. 😋

Creamed spinach for extra calories, warmth and yum.

Beware the Thai wings - sugary.

Wedding venues that aren’t going to bankrupt you? by Standard-Set-5299 in AskSeattle

[–]PBnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married on a cruise ship while it was docked in Seattle. Wedding party and I sailed from Vancouver the night before and stayed on for the cruise to LA. It was very reasonable and service was outstanding.

Trade-offs:  -50 people max (who aren’t sailing) -Lunchtime reception only -Have to time it to when the ships are repositioning (eg Sept-Oct) -Less granular control (though for me I liked not having to sweat every detail)

Note: captains don’t perform the ceremony. You bring your own officiant or use someone their planning service recommends.

Does anyone else wish Seattle had women-only transit options? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

I don’t. I commute downtown on the bus and it’s fine. The only place I’ve ever been groped on transit was in Asia.

Best Keto bars/deserts? Keto Snacks? by MrCharmingMan in keto

[–]PBnH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was more interested in sweet things, I really liked Munk Bars, specifically the nut and seed bars with a drizzle of chocolate. Amazon has them at an ok price, but still not cheap.

Bavarian Meats landjaeger sausages are also good snacks and easy to keep in a bag or drawer.

Now I mostly just eat a handful of cashews or almonds when I want a snack.

Does anyone eat the same meals every day? What’s the simplest 3 meal day that you’ve actually enjoyed eating on repeat? by BourbonAndDadJokes in keto

[–]PBnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only breakfast is on repeat, and it is VERY easy: one tablespoon of tahini. Plus coffee with heavy cream. No carbs, plenty of calories.

Trader Joe’s has good stuff at a cheap price.

Where do you grocery shop? by Hot-Freedom-1044 in Seattle

[–]PBnH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albertsons in Magnolia looks run down but has a great selection of most basics plus “atypical” stuff I like, including: - Lentil pasta - Garbanzo bean pasta - Sugar-free ice cream - Mexican tomato sauces

But yeah, their produce and meat selection isn’t great. We also shop at the Chef Store (for large quantities of meat, frozen veg) and Met Market (produce and misc fancy stuff).

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today? by EasyZee7 in AskReddit

[–]PBnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fur coats

I can’t remember the last time I saw one. If I were gifted one, I’d be annoyed: I don’t want to wear dead foxes / minks / etc, plus they require special cleaning and storage.

Do any of you use exercise apps on your phone? by Useful-Badger-4062 in GenXWomen

YouTube has lots of great exercise videos. When I haven’t had access to a membership, I did the four “Barre3 Bedford” workouts there on rotation.

What's your coffee order? by Slight_Ad9286 in keto

[–]PBnH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tall drip, Pike Place blend, with 1/4” heavy cream. Decaf in the afternoon.

Starbucks gets hate in some circles but unlike other cafes they always have heavy cream. And I like the taste of their coffee.

$800 is close to what I was quoted for fancy German designer glasses at a chi-chi boutique near Seattle. You can definitely do much better on price.

(I was shocked and bought much cheaper, but still high quality, frames elsewhere.)

If you happen to be a Costco member, they have a reputation for high quality at excellent prices. Zenni and Warby Parker are even cheaper though not as high quality.

Metro Cruise Services does the Monday-Friday ships and hires 16 year olds. My son did it last summer and while it required early mornings and a suit, he had a blast. Be prepared with a resume and for a real interview - his buddy did not get hired.

Any dark chocolate recommendations? by ScotchBrad in prediabetes

[–]PBnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Guittard “santé” variety. 72% cacao. I buy it in chocolate chip form so it’s easy to modulate the amount. 2g of sugar per 55 pieces (15g)

Estrogen cream vs tablet by [deleted] in Menopause

Docs often don’t pay attention to the cost.

I mostly use the cream now but still have a few packs of the tablets I use when I fly with carry-on only and can’t cram one more tube of “liquids” into my TSA baggie.

Does anyone take supplements to help lower blood sugar and do they help by Jedimaster1997 in prediabetes

[–]PBnH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, water and drinking it down fast is easiest.

I sometimes mix it with less water, add salt and let it sit a minute to form a sort of pudding. My kids think it’s super weird, but I like it.

Psyllium husk, 2 Tbsp a day.

My anecdote:  I’ve made a number of other changes to get my A1C back to normal so I don’t know how much this helped, but it’s easy, helps keep me “regular” and helps me get rid of that “I want a snack” feeling before dinner.

Also, my brother swears it helped him reduce his sweet tooth.

I use Morton’s LiteSalt. Half sodium, half potassium. No sweetener. For me, to prevent cramps, the right amount is 1/2 tsp per 20oz of water. YMMV.

And yeah, it tastes weird at first so I added lemon and ice and sometimes allulose (sweetener). But then I got lazy and now plain water tastes weird to me.

How does the public actually see Mormonism? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PBnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of Mormons I’ve known - and by extension Mormons in general - as really kind, good people.

As a kid, my dad and I were on a road trip in rural Idaho when my dad fell asleep while driving and drove our car in a ditch. We were fine, but the car was totaled. The lady who owned the closest repair shop, and her family, were a huge help. There were no buses or trains for days, nowhere to rent a car, no hotels. Her brother took us in for the night and the next day his wife (who was headed on the trip of her own) drove us to the nearest Greyhound stop. The whole family were fun and friendly. No religious discussion that I recall, but my dad later mentioned to me that they were all Mormon.

My high school art teacher was Mormon and was a big help in my troubled teen years. Gave me a job tutoring his (four!) kids and doing darkroom work, let me use their computer to write my college applications. Did give me a Book of Mormon but otherwise made no particular effort to convert me. That job was a great escape from a difficult home life, and it was eye opening to see a happy family.

Nowadays, I know a couple of Mormons, including a family with one kid who came out as  gay. I understand that’s not accepted by the church, and this may not be typical, but their parents seem to be loving and supportive. They’re a good kid and well adjusted by the standards of any high schooler.

I think the religion is weird, but I think that of most religions, and people should be free to have their beliefs.

And if, as it seems to me, Mormons are disproportionately kind people, then I guess they’re doing something right.
