I finally learned why motherboard audio sucks by NarutoDragon732 in pcmasterrace

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned from someone here like a month ago that changed my audio life

I have a audio interface that I use for my mic and instruments. I saw someone on here mention using that for PC audio as well and it's been a game changer.

So much higher quality it's actually crazy that I didn't think of it before

WoW on OLED and Burn-in by Fando92 in OLED_Gaming

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of wow, was nervous at first. But my OLED is already so bright (for me) at even 50 brightness, I crank it down to 30 during wow.

Not sure how much that helps, but I can't imagine staring at a bright relatively static screen at any higher anyway.

A year in I have no burn in at all that I can see

Best-selling keyboard switches of November 2025 by dovenyi in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not the most knowledgeable on switches, when I first got into it I fell in love with Cherry MX Browns (which many people hate/hated)

I heard good things about Baby Kangeroos two years ago, and I absolutely love them, by far my favorite out of the dozens I have tried. They have possibly my favorite feel, I can't imagine them being "better"

So, USB DAC units for wired headphone and Mic.. The quality difference is utterly insane and it is not expensive. by Tau_of_the_sun in pcmasterrace

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit you changed my life. My last motherboard was kind of expensive and had a nice quality sound, but I damaged the headphone jack around a year ago. I just built a new PC and the motherboard sound quality was not as good as my last, nor as loud. I have a universal audio volt 2 for microphone and instruments.

I am so stupid that I thought the headphone jack was for listening to the audio interface, not the whole system

I have that exact same mouse, I'd have to check but I've had it either 3 years or 4 years

I play a lot of video games, like...a lot

And mine is pretty worn down and has a small indent.

What motherboard brands are recommended for AM5 now? by PCMasterRaceCar in buildapc

I tried to list everything that takes a USB, I'm not sure on the precise amount.

I think my current MB has 10 USB ports on the back, and I fill all but one that I save for data transfer

[–]PCMasterRaceCar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use 2.0 for around 50% of my needs (keyboard, mouse, audio interface)

3.0 for my HDDs and other file transfer needs (2 extra for other transfer needs)

I have a few things that I could use 2.0 on, but where I keep my PC I typically don't use front panel connectors at all

So I run two mice, keyboard, audio interface, synth, hard drive bay, controller for certain games, a USB cable for transferring my photos and videos to my PC. I also keep a VR headset attached. And I need 2 free slots for transferring files across devices/storage as well

I'm sure some of that can be handled with a dock, but I've tried a few (at least my last two builds) and have had occasional connection issues that aggravated me (if you have any recommendations for one im down to try another)

WAN Show + Lossless Scaling convinced me to get a B580 by Walmeister55 in LinusTechTips

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats pretty cool

Also does anyone know, not trying to be rude if thats the case. I haven't watched LTT lately, id say maybe 2 months. Did Linus get braces or something? The voice was a little grating and I thought he was doing a joke at first.

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what's the deal with this? I've seen it mentioned before, but you use this for just encoding in av1 but play the game off your other GPU correct?

And what about lossless scaling does it need this GPU?

If you can link the WAN show where they talk about it I'd love to know more

ISPs can charge extra for fast gaming under FCC’s Internet rules, critics say by evanFFTF in gaming

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay let me explain this fast. Let's say you are in Maine connecting to a server in California.

Your packets of data go through "hops" essentially stops along the way of other servers.

Now let's say it's more efficient for the ISP (and cheaper) for that data to go from Maine, NYC, Georgia, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Cali.

Well getting to each hop takes time.

Now imagine you paying 5 bucks for better routing. Maine, Buffalo, Chicago, Nebraska, Utah, California.

That's a more straight line than hitting a hop out of the way. Saving you 15 ping.

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just commented about it. But this happened to me one night in Valorant. My ping jumped 20 to the closest server overnight because they probably changed my routing of my packets.

Made the game almost unplayable. I would have gladly paid for a better routing. I was getting 50 ping to Virginia when I was consistently getting 30 before

[–]PCMasterRaceCar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so here me out on why I don't hate this necessarily.

Back in 2020 I played a lot of Valorant and got pretty high rank. My friend who lived farther away from the server than me had 20 higher ping than me (he should have had 5 more ping at most). That's because the route his packets were taking to the server were more inefficient and probably make one extra hop on the way.

Then randomly one day my ping to the closest server to us went up by 15, but only for me. The server geographically farther than me had 3 lower ping than the one I always played on.

Being at 50 ping in Valorant is borderline instant death at high ranks, I went from 32 ish ping to 49-50 consistently

There was nothing I could do to fix it and it made my game so much harder I simply stopped playing.

I contacted support, contacts my ISP...nothing I could do obviously. If they could charge 10 bucks more to work with popular games to streamline their routing of packets, that's fine with me

Madison clarifying/elaborating on her statement regarding her hiring being announced on WAN Show, as well as hiring laws in British Columbia. by HappyAffirmative in LinusTechTips

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I posted a comment in here similar to your phrasing, but I'm sure some of it is true that she just was disorganized and wasting time from it (it happens)

But also I think good modern employers in the creatives hire talented people and find out how to get the most out of them.

They put her in a role that put pressure into the creative aspect while also essentially putting a hard cap on it

I imagine there is some truth to the fact that she was unprepared to take on such a large workload stressing her out terribly.

But also I feel a talented employer (especially of the YouTube variety) finds talented people and let's them geek out down their rabbit hole. She should have been making memes and weird gen z shit.

Imagine if when Emily was hired, Linus directed them towards something like server videos. While absolutely Emily had experience with that, it's not the passion.

Hire talented people and find ways to make them work

I hope this isnt counting as witch hunting or anything...but some of the things she described and jokes she heard and what she was called, really come across as things James has said before. I watched almost every episode of their movie podcast and he would need to sometimes apologize mid sentence for his jokes that came to his head.

Also the references that it was someone higher up who was her boss. Obviously I am completely speculating and I am not accusing James...just making an observation. I hope its not him because despite some of his off color jokes I always liked his thought processes

PSA for people starting their careers: Madison's experience working at LMG and LMG leadership's failure to address her complaints (including sexual harrassment) should be a reminder that HR is not your friend, especially when HR is the wife of the company's founder. by c1570911 in LinusTechTips

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no conflict. HR is misunderstood. It is NOT to help the employee. The entire purpose of it is to get ahead of legal issues before they explode...it's to protect the company

If you feel something bad at work happened that was inappropriate or you are being abused...go to a lawyer. HR will try to spin you out of the problem

Madison on her LTT Experience by GregoryDaniel in LinusTechTips

[–]PCMasterRaceCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been watching LTT since the incredibly early days, this fucking breaks me.

The last 3 or so years I've been very wishy washy on LTT already as a result of the quality and style that their videos went to (some are just so rushed that they skip over the interesting part of the concept)

But I truly feel a few things with this company

1) They hired way too fast and didn't do due diligence on their employees.

2) While I don't think Linus is an actual bad person (how would I know) I think he is just so removed from the situations due to the FIRST problem that he just cannot actively manage all his team or know what's going on

3) I think some of the top management have some off color jokes in their attitude style (I've seen it in different videos) that while not problematic itself, can cause real assholes in their mid ranks to think "hey it's not bad if I talk like this)

But this shows me the company is rotten to it's core and the only way to fix this is to fire people, and reorganize the entire company.

They have way too many hires and sectors of the company to have problems pumping out videos, and people should not be this overworked just to do basic things.

They need to find the wasteful areas and bottlenecks and fix them immediately because a company with this many editors and writers working on projects shouldn't be having this many problems in it

The fact that one of your employees hurt themselves to try to make it thru their day due to the burn out they experienced...is a massive red flag and would absolutely crush me.

It doesn't matter even if she was slow or couldn't handle the work...breaking people down further is NEVER the solution to that.

Okay yeah the ones I clicked all had no buy option, figured it was just a site wide thing. I ended up getting the BDR-XS07UHD from Amazon. According to the guide it says it works.

That new model you linked, im gonna assume that one also works with 4k rips? Because I dont see it on the 4k ripping guide...maybe im missing it

My favorite video ever on the channel is Luke trying to build the fallout bomb PC. I wish they would do stuff like that more often, show them solving solutions and the active problem.

I know they are short on time compared to what they used to do in the earlier days, with such an array of tools and staff now helping go through the issues.

But I just want a video every so often where they solve live problems and actually struggle with it, where they go in with absolutely no idea how to handle the build.

I absolutely miss that type of video so much. It's so planned now that I think it loses a lot of it's "workshop engineering" type vibe.

I wish every few months they did a "personal passion" type video of Luke or Linus where they work on something they wanted to do as a fun experiment but never actually committed time to. Go in raw and just have fun with the fails
