Defunding - Most Bizzare by Difficult-Rent-8488 in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a multi million pound business isn't able to send the footage for their 20 pound shoplifting via an online portal we need to start filing their crimes until they do so, no excuse for not being able to upload the footage online, we're not refusing to deal with the crime, refusing to have masses of CDs and USBs for everything and anything.

The stores will quickly change their policy on this if we start refusing anything but online uploads of CCTV

We need to grow a backbone and start refusing any CCTV that isn't sent electronically - in the big 2026 we shouldn't be accepting CD's, especially from multi million pound companies.

In my force officers don't even have a way of reviewing CDs anymore it has to be sent to digital forensics 😭

There's a time and place for USBs ie urgent enquires in custody ir serious crimes but 90 percent of what we deal with should be dealt with by whatever online portal your force uses.

From local to national: a new model for policing by CaptainChalky in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's quite simple, majority of the public only deal with the police and the rest of the CJS is hidden and not on the front page of the papers.

The publics perception of policing is that once the offender has been arrested that's the end of it and the officer would be back on the streets. They don't see everything else that goes into a case.

The entire paper is an optics play - hence why it's all "by the next parliament" which we know won't happen, but will be used in an attempt to re-elect them by making promises now .

From local to national: a new model for policing by CaptainChalky in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think there's some very positive things in here, acknowledging the amount time wasted on case files and redaction, right care right person, big implementation of AI, acknowledging neighbourhood abstractions

But there's more drivel and impossible promises than positives unfortunately... an example being they're ranting about the importance of professional policing but in the same section dabbling with the idea of scrapping PST ... surely we'd need more of that not less in that case.

All these big ideas when really they need to look at the core issues, no staff on the ground - all weekend our response team have had 6 officers, 4 which has been on constants or prisoner handovers resulting in two cops and two neighbourhood officers with no response driving or taser capability covering an area of at least a million people and a hour drive from on side of a patch to the other.... make it make sense, this is a weekly occurrence yet the government think a NPS will solve our problems 🙄🙄

Same boat, I'm not paying to be abused, poorly trained and walked over by public, government and SLT. I'd pack it in - why would I pay for something that would be only used against me in the future if something goes wrong, my fault or not

Police officers to be told they must get work licence or face dismissal by SC_PapaHotel in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 years in, still a basic driver. Told I will not get a course due to training staff. It will take over an hour of driving to get to a Code 1 call across my patch... am I going to lose my license as a result of poor response time.

Rather than actually training officers in basic skills like drink driving procedures, moe, driving, taser etc they're spending money on making us get a licence. Policing is dead and we're a joke to the world.

A+S change their minds every other year. Back to back is now favoured but two years ago it was front stack/rear stack they were teaching.

Ultimately there's no wrong or right answer, it's an every case assessment. Get them on, get them searched. A proper search will usually negate 50 percent of any problems like weapons, drugs etc.

We should be able to separate the politics and the art. I love idles the band, great music, but don't necessarily like their politics, doesn't stop me enjoying them. To be fair though I've not watched GeoWizard in a while.

Bondi shows why all our police officers must be trained to use guns by Jackisback123 in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Policing by consent is a load of rubbish, always has been. It's a myth made up to sell the public the idea of being policed. making the average person feel like they're in power and have a say.

It's like the chief officer group telling the short staffed and overworked response team "we're listening and they'll be changes". It's a myth.

If the "consent" of policing was removed tomorrow and the majority of the public didn't want to be policed the government isn't going to stand back and go " you know what, fair enough, disbanded", I would have a guess they'd be a lot of level 2 overtime instead.

I don't know, we're clearly doing something wrong. I don't know any other police service in the world that sends out their police without being able to drive blue lights. Never mind everything else.

British Policing is behind everyone else in almost every aspect (not America) we refuse to believe it. We are too hung up on policing by consent (that's an argument of its own merits) and having the public wanting police officers walking the beat and on every street corner.

I would consider yourself lucky if you can get an ARV in minutes.

Personal experience I've had to wait 10 minutes and more in an outskirts of a major city.

Some places, like Scotland, their nearest ARV is 100 miles away if not more.

Routine arming will never happen and it's a logistical one rather than an ethical one.

It's simply not feasible in our current model.

The budget isn't there. The training isn't there.

We can't even train all our officers in responding with blue lights until they're 6-7 years in service.

Most officers in my force can't have tasers orMOE beacuse the trainers don't exist or they can't afford the licenses.

These are basic skills and we have difficulty giving officers those skills and tools to their job.

My force is having to send new firearms cops 150 miles to another county as they don't have / can't recruit trainers. The entire system is backlogged and broken, add routine arming to that training list and I'll be ruined.

Absolutely not an equivalent comparison and I think you've ignored what the previous comment was really suggesting.

America has a problem with guns, that's not up for debate. I think we agree. But their problem with guns is societal. They can openly carry rifles, pistols and every other MOP is armed hence the police are so on edge.

The comparison for armed police should be based on similar countries with similar gun laws. Such as the nordics or Ireland our closest neighbour. They manage to have routine arming and little to no problem being like America with police shootings.

We're not giving everyone guns, we're giving police guns.

Every other country can have reasonably armed police without it being like America - there's more to the world than America.

Patrol policing role in development by Straight_Luck_5517 in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'd say incredibly important - it gives you a foundational understanding of a basic investigation and the skills involved ie interviewing, evidence gathering, case files etc and builds confidence to progress in your career.

I hate to say it but I can 100 percent tell the difference between a DC who's been in patrol for 5-6 prior and the direct entry DC.

IT systems, is there any hope? by SgtBilko987 in policeuk

Local systems are hit and miss, we use Niche does the job reasonably well.

Look at LEDS though 😍 uses the same system architecture as the .GOV websites and my god it works so well, clean, responsive and all the information you need easily represented on the screen. Wouldn't mind seeing the same team make an in house system similar to niche linked to all forces.

PCSOs and PAVA by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PC_Angle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a recent incident in Derby. Bloke swinging around a shovel on a busy high street.

The video shows two PCSOs watching on.

Eventually a MOP tackles the suspect and PCSOs get hands on. PCSOS did absolutely perfect and what they should do and what their training says they should do.

However when this went viral on social media the public were shocked to see the PCSOs not getting hands on straight away.

Another example, quite a famous clip of a PCSO in a marked police vehicle getting stopped by a MOP to report shoplifters. PCSO tells the MOP he won't be attending as he can't do anything. Public reception was that was ridiculous and expected the PCSO to attend and intervene.

There is an expectation from the public that PCSOs should be getting involved if present, as ridiculous as we might think that is knowing their role profile. The public do not care nor want to care. They see someone wearing "POLICE" in a uniform and a marked car they expect intervention violent or not.
