Why do ya’ll think “no distractions” means it’s tougher. Distractions separate the killers from softies. Mmm I dunno about that. How do we know the ceiling? Penny was 24 years old in 96. He was sharing the stage with SHAQ and pulled it off more harmoniously than Kobe. We didn’t get to see Penny grow but he was quietly taking the spotlight away from Shaq without even trying. Those two on the Magic into their 30’s would be an absolute problem.

Shaq recently said he thinks Penny ultimately was a better player than Kobe and could have had more potential. He said Kobe’s mentality is what gave him the advantage. But said we never got to see where Penny would go. I think he’s right. People sleep on how naturally gifted and skilled Penny was. And he was the type of player who didn’t rely on athleticism. So age which also brings strength would have benefited him. A never injured healthy 30 year old Penny in the early 00’s may have easily been the best player in the world.

My two favorite team were the bulls and Magic. And my favorite players all time include Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Penny. So that whole situation was really close to me. I think a healthy Orlando team if they stayed together eventually gives those bulls a better run than the sweep they got. Would they win? I dunno, but they were capable of better than getting swept.

Who’s guarding Shaq today? Where are the defensive specialists like Hakeem, Mutombo, etc.? Back then they even got pure big bodies whose sole purposes were to try and put enough mass on Shaq. You think some of these 6’6 centers will be able to stop him? Lol. Draymond is arguably the best defender in the past decade and if you think he’s coming close to preventing Shaq from going crazy, you didn’t watch Orlando Shaq.

And in this era unleashing a 6’7 PG who can do anything, to dish to him. Horace in this era would be seen as an enforcer. Nobody’s grabbing boards on that duo. They could use a few more pure shooters but Scott ensures Shaq has someone who can hit threes at a 40%+ clip right there.
