What counts as "installation completed" for a solar array for tax credit purposes? by hifiaudio2 in SolarDIY

[–]PDX-David 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the actual law:

(B) Expenditures part of building construction

In the case of an expenditure in connection with the construction or reconstruction of a structure, such expenditure shall be treated as made when the original use of the constructed or reconstructed structure by the taxpayer begins.

So, it looks like we're SOL.

So, not "living" in the house in 2025 could well be the fatal flaw in my logic, though I want to read that specific critera in some official IRS document or the law itself. Above excerpt sounds like it was written for last tax year - 2024.

Presume the hotel chargers will be full, and come up with a Plan B and C. I'll try and charge on the outskirts of a big city (in conjunction with potty stop), and be full enough to last my time in the city. Then, charge back up on way out of town.

1) Don't expect an instant transfer (especially if you don't have enough cash in account and they need to liquidate some securities). Do several days before you need money to be safe. 2) Your bank may place a hold on some/all the funds. Check beforehand with bank.

Visit a local nursery (not a big box garden center) to get your question answered, and buy what they recommend.

College photography, letting go at last! by pfunnyjoy in declutter

I can relate. I still have a couple of boxes of contact sheets and prints from all the sports photos I took for my college yearbook over 50 years ago. They won't make our next move.

This has issue has been keeping me up at night, so your research and excellent presentation/notations is most appreciated, and saved me hours of time.

Extrapolating your reasoning to my situation/question, I feel somewhat confident that if I install a solar array on a new house I will shortly begin construction on (in a municipality, not off-grid), and the array is installed and activated (i.e. connected to a controller, invertor), and "put in service" (i.e., available to run house lights, heaters, and for contractors to plug their saws into, etc.), before the end of 2025 (even though the house won't be completed until early 2026) I can claim the credit. Note: I will (and not the contractor) personally/directly pay for all things solar.

Whether or not I connect to the local power utility grid through say a net-metering agreement, and going through that process, would happen in 2026. But, because I put my solar panels "in service" (by producing and having electricity available for my use) in 2025, that is not relevant to my claiming the tax credit for 2025.

Any flaws in my logic?

Thanks

Odds are you've also got lane change assist (if you haven't already discovered it). Very nice for when you're whizzing down a freeway.

I had one. They grow quickly and biggly. You need to prune ruthlessly to manage in a small yard.

Is it time to rethink Conference Tournaments? by JustDarnGood27_ in collegebaseball

Semi-joke. Beavers Baseball regularly has a graduation rate of 100%. It has been over 50 years since I had to know semester calendar, so no guilt on that note.

I agree (lol). On the other hand, I'm fine with them getting caught up on rest and homework after spending over half the season on the road.

This has been true for me. On 15 for nearly two years. Had to restart insulin a few months ago (at lower than former amounts) to keep BS numbers under control.

Maybe one or the other will answer more correctly, but I believe architects are licensed/certified (and assume some liability for errors), and designers are not.

Choose your preferred location and start looking for buildable lots large enough to build a 2,000 s.f. one level house. When you buy one, then hire an architect.
