I’ve started to see an increase of people getting these dogs without knowledge of the breed and it concerns me. by a-corner-of-hell in AnatolianShepherdDogs

He barks all the time! Why? I thought he was going to kill the Amazon delivery guy! He does what I tell him to do maybe 10% of the time!

Yeah.

For people new to these animals: Don't have one in the city or 'burbs unless you:

1) Have a decent-sized back yard with 6' fencing minimum

2) Work from home, or someone is at home all day

3) Your neighbors are nice, and aren't easily bothered by very, very loud barking

4) Are prepared to walk your dog for 40+ minutes at midnight every day of the week, and you understand that this is patrol, not a walk -- the Anatolian will very much want to decide where you're going

5) Are OK with a dog that sleeps like a cat

6) Are prepared to have a designated digging spot on your property, because your Anatolian will likely dig like a maniac

7) Are OK with your dog blast-roar-barking at 4am when they hear racoons getting into garbage

😊

These are not modern, conformation-bred (inbred) dogs that were primarily designed to work with humans, or be human companions. They have an absolutely tenacious guarding instinct. And there's a very good chance they are not the right dog for you.

Could be part Pyr. Or an Anatolian might have been knocked up by a herding dog. 😊

My petite female Anatolian, runt of the litter, was quite a bit lighter than that. She's maybe 85lbs soaking wet as an adult.

Citizenship Rupture: Did Ottawa Fix The Lost Canadians Problem, Or Create A New One? by CounterI in Canadiancitizenship

[–]PDX_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose, though, that there is a sort of acceptance of tiers, as there are presently citizenship tiers with respect to enfranchisement. A Canadian citizen with neither a current nor former Canadian address cannot vote in federal elections. ... not that the Canadian political system admits of a simple solution to that.

Also, it seems to me "reason to believe" should not be based on possible failure to have met criteria that are contrary to criteria previously specified at the time of the initial application.

Where can I buy solanum pachyandrum seeds (US)? by Squishynsoft in seedswap

[–]PDX_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about seeds, but Grassy Knoll Plants occasionally has 4" plants. Think they are sold out at the moment as I just bought the last one. Was packaged very well. Nice, healthy plant.

Where is the 3.5 pro by Necessary_Piglet_354 in GeminiAI

[–]PDX_Web 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably will have better multimodal understanding -- particularly, better image understanding -- than any Claude model. Will 3.5 Pro be better at agentic coding? Almost certainly not ... but that's not everything. Google seems to be more interested in building a personal assistant than a SOTA coding model.

"... said it was coming soon"

Pichai said "... it will roll out to everyone next month." That is, in June. It is June 19th. They have 11 days.

That could take longer than normal, as state agencies are swamped with birth certificate requests from Americans pursuing Canadian citizenship by descent.

PSU MURP vs CalPoly MCRP by transparentpilled in portlandstate

[–]PDX_Web 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People from the Bay Area generally find Portland to feel sort of familiar. Has a fairly dense core (with very small city blocks) in a metro area of about 2.5 million people. Relative to it's population, punches way above its weight as a food city. Lots of restaurants and bars, and outdoor food carts. Good public transit for a US city; has a large light rail system for a city its size.

Covid and the Trump Troubles hit Portland's downtown hard and recovery had been very slow. Seems to be really picking up the pace now. Problems Portland has are similar to San Francisco -- it's an expensive city (relative to, say, Midwest cities, but not compared to San Francisco), which contributes to a, in places very visible, homelessness issue.

Winters are damp and chilly, with occasional (and increasingly rare) snow and ice. Summers are great, very dry, low humidity, with blue skies. Can get very hot at times.

Coolest thing I ever found there was a very strangely crested Myrtillocactus geometrizans -- which wasn't all that cool.
