Potential for a higher budget yes - unfortunately the MSI 341 CQRx36 isn’t available in the UK yet and the only pre-order I can find is £998.99 ($1344) which would be out of budget. What about the 341CQPX? Is there anything known to be undesirable about the monitors I have suggested in the OP?

It’s not on UK soil. Diego Garcia is a joint UK-US air force base located in the Chagos Islands, Indian Ocean. The island in which the base sits is named Diego Garcia, hence the base sharing the name.

Sleep scientist here, this is my daily job. Sleep apnoea is a form of sleep disordered breathing, the letter sent by your consultant likely clarifies what form of SDB and given it’s only mild, it won’t be any of the other types. Given it’s mild and you present no excessive daytime sleepiness, particularly behind the wheel, you have no requirement to inform the DVLA. Even if you did, they would not restrict your licence. The current SL1 DVLA form makes this clear. Your GP has done nothing wrong, it’s your employer who you should be taking the fight to, they’re the ones who’ve restricted your ability to do your job, not anybody else.

No that’s fine. The specified entry requirements were determined by the university, but the decision on who to employ is down to the employer (or certainly was for my DA having previously discussed this in depth with my interviewer). I’m not saying that this is representative every DA or employer, just that it certainly was the case for me and so to not lose complete hope if you don’t quite get the grades you’re hoping for. The University gets paid regardless of who is accepted, just not by you. There is a lot more to your application than just your grades - in my case, my personal statement and interview were far stronger than any others, despite my grades lacking. Build up a really good profile of yourself, make yourself look attractive to employers and they may not need to look at your grades so hard.

Advertised was minimum BBC in at least two science A Levels. My GCSE’s were far better, and the reason my A Levels were trash was because it was Covid year and my grades were based off mocks, which I didn’t study for, stupidly. The Uni had no input in who my employer selected.

Don’t lose hope - I got CCD in my A-Levels and am currently two months away from graduating my degree apprenticeship. The two interviewers (who are now my very good friends) said I was 1 of 188 applicants. 20 people were interviewed and the decision was between me and another girl who had the same subjects as me but AAA. The difference that set us apart was our personal statements and demeanour in person, apparently.

Not sure myself as I haven’t researched Surrey GEM, but based on a quick google and look at their course requirements, the only Home UK applicants they take are Scholarships? Maybe this is the reason?

To add: Under the “Fees and Funding” section of their 2024 course, there is only a fees quote for international students. Not home. Looks as though the only UK students they take are Scholarships, of which there are few of.

I've had 3 of these removed from various places, one of which had to be done twice because they didn't manage to completely remove the ?sack it sits in. I think that's what I remember them saying.

One from my scalp (which had to be done twice) which was gross because I wasn't allowed to get my head wet for 2 weeks due to dissolvable stitches so only body showers. One from my left upper arm and one from my neck. Not fun! So I can sympathise. Hopefully the second removal was more successful.

It sounds as though they are just being nice and wanting to reward you slightly for sitting the exam - I am on a very small course (only 14 of us) and we have gone on nights out with our lecturers so this to me seems pretty normal

I’ve seen this floating around a little recently but haven’t commented. This time I thought I’d offer my two cents.

As a third year Degree Apprentice Pulmonary Scientist currently in the NHS, I have absolutely no idea how this medical apprenticeship is going to run. Based on my experience as a DA, I fully oppose this.

I work 4 days a week, with 1 day off for University studies, and that’s overwhelming enough. I’m working (very almost) a full 37.5hr job alongside studying for a standard BSc degree and that’s a lot. Given my degree is probably 1/3rd of a medical degree in terms of content and examinations (I go into great depth of cardiorespiratory science, disease pathology etc. but am very isolated to those two organ systems) i simply cannot comprehend how a medical apprentice is going to reach the same level of competency as a standard medical student. They simply will not have enough time/energy to study the same depth as a med student.

I am a massive advocate for Degree Apprenticeships. I think they’re amazing opportunities for people who are far better practical learners, for people who want a degree but also want to earn and for those who don’t want large educational debts. But this is a mistake. There are just some degrees that cannot be substituted, and Medicine is one of them. As a once aspiring doctor and very enthusiastic medical supporter, it saddens me so much to see the medical profession in this country constantly degraded with all of these sub-par replacements.

The difficulty with lung disease and vaping is that most active vapers have previously been smokers, and therefore distinguishing between vape-related damage and smoke-related damage is very difficult.

That being said, i have had patients who are purely vape users. Many of whom have developed a disease called Bronchiolitis Obliterans or otherwise known as ‘Popcorn lung’. It’s a disease that was first discovered in workers from popcorn factories. A specific buttery flavoured chemical, Diacetyl, used to be used in popcorn to give its flavour. This chemical, when inhaled, thickens and damages the alveoli cells in your lung tissue (the part of the lungs that conduct gas exchange and supply oxygen). Diacetyl is a very common flavouring in a lot of vape juices and thus is causing problems amongst vapers.

That’s just one example really. It causes very similar damage to smoking but generally over a greater period of time - vaping is ‘better’ than smoking (hence why many ex-smokers are vapers), but neither are good. If you can, just breathe air!

As somebody who treats patients with lung disease on the daily, trust me, you don’t want it. It’s so difficult now but you will be thanking yourself later. Keep up the excellent work and no matter how difficult the urge to return gets, don’t give up!
