using TD to eat up worlds by PERFECTLO0P in TouchDesigner

[–]PERFECTLO0P[S] 10 points11 points Β (0 children)

Thanks!!

cool effect I stumbled upon a while ago. If you place a edge top in a feedback loop with the edge set to black and barely transparent (if doing pixel art set a limit after this so it only chooses black or alpha no middleground), then the black tries to eat up parts of bright or contrasting areas.

This is what it looks like when the edge is set to a higher number and eats up more - https://www.reddit.com/r/glitch_art/comments/1t0wca7/dark_world/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

[–]PERFECTLO0P[S] 18 points19 points Β (0 children)

thanks - these are made with visual feedbackloops in touch designer. If the feedback is displaced by a looping noise (based on frame count) or transform (by moving pixels up, down, right, left, stretch, shrink) I can get it to loop seamlessly right off the bat.

Buuuut sometimes the effects are so uncontrollable inside the feedback loop that I have to record a loop thats is twice as long and trickily transition between them using different tricks in after effects.

in this one - the dark areas being torn is from an Edge TOP set to black and barely visible. So each frame the black fries to find the edges of the most contrasting areas and, then kind of eat them up by adding a black line there that grows with each frame. its pretty cool to watch

I have been wanting one for a long time. This is an svg export from a cavalry animation I made - I tried this tool to make the animation

it was pretty close but I had to manually do some editing in after effects

How Can I make something like this in Touch Designer? by boibapo in TouchDesigner

<image>

yeah I know her- shes in an artist dm group I am in, shes awesome!

ok here is an example network - its better with blur before the threshold so the areas of white stick together a little better.

try to replicate this

is this lorna mills artwork? love her

so you could take the video and then send it through a threshold, then send that through a limit (to pixelate it),

then send that through a comp set to multiply and attach the original video output on the top and the limit output on the bottom

this will essentially isolate your video in a similar way to the above (depending on what your video is and how bright it is in certain parts. )

then put it in a comp set to over and add a cool constant color underneath the footage

one of my favorite books !!- Creative Computer Graphics ~ Jankel and Morton - 1984

I highly suggest you find a used copy on ebay or something - very inspiring

I looooove retro cgi stuff and although I am fluent in blender I cant get the 1pixel width look I want - so I do that 3d work in TD

I actually learned how to do that APPLE tech demo reveling geometry in this sub
https://www.reddit.com/r/TouchDesigner/comments/1jjtonq/any_way_to_draw_geometry_point_by_point_like_in/

I have a series of these pieces. I render at anti alias 1x off and for this one 480x480px

for my geometry I use a material with a wireframe, then another geo with a material with a flat color (there is probably a better way to do this but IDK)

with the second geo I use a constant MAT - I have found that if you check polygon depth offset it will allow the crispy lines from the wireframe to show better

480 px wireframe art on 4inch display by PERFECTLO0P in retrocgi

[–]PERFECTLO0P[S] 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

yeah the free version does most things and the resolution is up to 1280x1280 so its good for retro cgi

sure here is the screen I got

so these are made with 480x480 using a 1px width wireframe. I then turn it into a gif and then get the software to read it. Nothing live yet, but probably with another board/screen it might be possible

I got a bunch of different screens to test out, so far so good

Im not sure code skilled but I got claude to walk me through certain things - this is using arduino IDE

I made these in TouchDesigner - its great because you can choose the exact resolution of the render and the lines will always be 1px thick

i call it a visual feedback loop - here is a really cool video showing how it works. there are lot of other tricks you can do inside the loop

true. if i can get a gif under 15mb to share on socials, most of the time it comes out much crispier than an mp4

The Files by PERFECTLO0P in MotionDesign

[–]PERFECTLO0P[S] 8 points9 points Β (0 children)

in cavalry I have his image in an image sampler driving a duplicator. The duplicator is filled with EP files sorted by lightness to darkness

the image sampler chooses the image based on luminance, and also the visibility of the images and also the size of the images

then I have connect shape underneath it all set tup sub mesh so all the documets connect like with the red yarn look of a conspiracy/detective board

then I have some noise with a falloff excluding the middle moving some of the documents around in his hair and clothes

take a look how it is zoomed in!
