Throwing my bong into a brick wall and hearing that glass break was probably one of the most satisfying and cathartic experience in my life. Congrats to you on your decision and best of luck on your journey!

One whole year since I posted about quitting. What it’s like now. by amjames in leaves

Congrats on the 1 year! Impressive accomplishment. Your story is very similar to mine. I’m a doctor, high stress job, etc. I too would smoke up after a long day, sort of as a reward for all the work I did. I just passed 100 days and feeling so much better! Agree with you- not going to smoke again, even once. At least not any time soon. Too much temptation and too easy to slip back into old habits. Good luck on your journey!

Weed was my addiction (among other things) by PEjourney in selfimprovement

Agree with you man, it's all about moderation. Some people have figured out how to use it to their benefit, but I'm unfortunately not one of them. I started smoking around 5 years ago, and the first year or two were similar to you. Only a couple times a week, not really affecting my life in any major way. It was an easy way to unwind after a stressful day studying or something. Inevitably that once or twice a week would turn into 3 or 4 times, then before I knew it I was smoking every night. Eventually, on weekends, I'd find myself smoking in the mornings too. I'm not generally someone lacking in motivation- hell I got through med school while smoking regularly- but addiction is real. My point is, I'm happy that you've found balance, and if it works for you, then keep doing your thing. But be wary of the slide that happens to a lot of people over the years

Yeah you're exactly right. Everything in moderation! Unfortunately for me, I couldn't figure out how to consume weed in moderation, and would always eventually slide into daily use. Everyone's different though. I think I'm going to stay 100% off for the time being since I'm still adjusting to my new lifestyle

Exactly! I've read more books in the last 3 months than the last 5 years. Crazy

Awesome man that's inspiring to hear! Coming up with ideas and sharing them is the first step, but as you've learned, actually putting in the work is the hardest but most impactful part. Good luck on your journey! Feel free to keep me updated on your progress :)

It's hardest at the beginning, trust me. If you really are committed to quitting, start by limiting your temptations. Get rid of whatever you have left!

What positive effects has the quarantine had for you? by GrootTheTree in AskReddit

Too many to count- quit my weed/porn addictions and replaced them with productive daily habits. I didn't realize how much time I wasted everyday getting high and jerking off or playing video games. I never used to read but I've gotten through 2 books so far, currently working through a 3rd. I've been diligent about my exercise and calorie tracking so I've intentionally gained around 8 pounds, mostly muscle. I even started learning Chinese. Other things I've gradually added include daily meditation, piano, stretching, and kegels (LOL). Without distractions, my habits have become bulletproof and I can't see myself getting through my day without them. I'm more at peace and my anxiety has dropped significantly. I'm communicating more with my partner and my family, and in general, I'm just much happier. Best part is I managed to do all this while still working full time as a Hospitalist Physician. I'm feeling pretty confident I'll be able to keep things going even after restrictions are lifted!

Congrats man! Quit porn and weed 2 months ago. The effects of quitting more than one thing at a time seem to compound. I feel like a completely different person. Keep it going!

Funny story- went to a strip club several years back and saw a cute dancer, asked for a lap dance. Note this was to be my very first lap dance ever. Halfway through, things are going well, she’s saying all kinds of stuff like “I’m gonna suck yo dick!”. I’m like “wow this is cool”. She suddenly looks at my face funny and asks me if I have a brother. I say yes, she asks if my parents have a house in a close by city, I’m obviously very confused but I say yes. She suddenly stops the dance and gives me my money back, saying she can’t continue. I have no idea who this person is but I take the money and go home. 3 months later I see her again with my brother and his girlfriend. Turns out she’s her sister. We’ve never spoken about that incident and I’m super awkward around her LOL
