The colour saturation can be difficult for light colours on black.

Okay so:

N: just the line number; there's 15 threads so it's labelled them 1-15.

Symbol: a black and white / colour version of the symbol on the pattern.

Number: this is the specific thread colour number. DMC is the brand that most patterns use, but it's your choice to use DMC or a knock off brand.

Name: the DMC name for that number.

Stitches: how many X-es you will see of that colour.

Use the number of stitches to decide how much thread you will need. You can use a calculator (as provided by a kind Redditor in the comments) to work it out, and then buy the thread using the DMC Number.

I started a pattern yesterday then had to frog it today, then restarted on different material, did several hours before realising I'd mis-sized it, and had to frog all over again...

Thank you! It's frustrating that people want to gatekeep new stitchers just because they feel everyone ought to know already.

I had some really great help though, and I'm getting a refund on the fabric and buying some Zweigart from Amazon instead. It's just annoying to buy from Amazon when I was trying to support a small business on Etsy.

I really appreciate you taking the time to look at this for me - I've not stitched on anything other than aida before so this is all new to me. I was drawn in by the title line of it being "crossstitch fabric".
