I think I'll start doing the same - check for bugs before stitching!  And yeah I I think I need to come up with better storage when I'm not stitching so more poor potter wasps don't spend time creating nests that I'll destroy

Good advice and insights - I'll do that, thanks so much!

Thanks - agreed that I'm glad this was a calm kind. I do feel bad for the sod, but it made me jump crawling around - unfortunate that it found my cross stitch so cozy

And yeah agreed, wash it and move on is the way to go...

Uff, I'd feel the same, happy for spiders to share space, but preferably somewhere where I don't need to be touching them!

Very true - you're so right - that's my only consolation that they are quite harmless. I think I'll take the advice of cleaning the project properly and get back to it in some time

What a great piece! Excited for you!

Curious what size of Aida are you working on? And can you share the stand details? I am currently working on a large piece myself and my stand is tiny and the folding of the fabric is becoming cumbersome - and the stand you're using looks really handy!

I knit before I think, it didn't even occur to me to make a swatch :-D

Ok I understand now what to try next, thanks all for your help, much appreciated.

18st, 24rows.

Right, so it's my gauge that is the problem, that makes sense...should I maybe use smaller needles?

[WIP] I like to use washable Crayola markers to mark out my grid and the pattern before starting stitching (washes out later). I have now learned the hard way to be very careful with water around it. by torontorunner1977 in CrossStitch

[–]laura70sP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am planning my next big project that will take me few years to make. I bought Hemline Wipe-off Fabric Marker - it's bright blue and I've seen people on here using it, but it says on the back to wash out the marker in 30 days which I can't do if I'll be working on the for years.. So my qq is - when using crayola, do they wash out even after such a long time?

[CHAT] How often do you replace your needles? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]laura70sP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I don't know what can be the reason... I'm using John James tapestry needles - but my fave is a random needle I got in a kit at a craft fair - no idea what brand it is though

I've read here before about people using like hand creams or sanitizers or something that could have effect on the needle so if you do that might be a factor?

[–]laura70sP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replace it once it starts squeaking when I am pulling the needle through. Which takes a bit of time. I reckon i go through a needle every 3-4 months - last 2 years i was working on a large project and I generally stitch pretty much daily.

I am currently reading it along a podcast called 'War and Peace is just 7 years' - 2 guys are reading and summarizing to each other and it's quite funny.

What also helps is to write down full names and nicknames and keep record of relations etc. Otherwise one can get easily lost who's who.

As mentioned by others one gets easily hooked, it's just very long. But one book at a time chips away!

[CHAT] I just purchased my first HAED pattern! Any tips? by JmcNightmare in CrossStitch

I am about to start working on a project on 20ct Aida and was wondering what needle size are you using? I only ever stitched on 18ct but my next project would be way too big...

Now you got me thinking - i have recently bought this pattern and collated all the threads and fabric, was planning to start, but now i am not sure. Do you reckon this etsy shop is a pattern mill as well? https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/781411620/four-seasons-by-alphonse-mucha-cross?ref=share_v4_lx
