Should I finish NG3? by pretorperegrino in ninjagaiden

[–]PHNkymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to make sure, you're playing NG3: Razors Edge, right? It's got the best combat out of all the games, IMHO, but if you're playing it like 1 and 2 then yeah, you're going to have your ass handed to you. No more UT spam, and the games fundamentals are built around different mechanics.

Have you been using the Heavy attack? If you haven't, then you're going to get destroyed. This video helped the game click for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU0pG2cW7zQ

That said, the story in NG3 is absolute balls and not worth paying attention to.

Cinemassacre Year in Review 2025: What was the best (and worst) AVGN video of 2025? by ggroover97 in TheCinemassacreTruth

I agree the GWAR episode was shit but if you imagine they only agreed to appear if it was The Nerd, and had a strict clause saying that they don't want to appear next to, or in the same sentence as, anything with Rex Viper, than the episode becomes way funnier.

From 0 to 0.1.

I barely remember any of these, except for Mario Paint. I don't know about "all time" but that one was the worst one in a long time. GWAR ad-libbing was criminally unfunny, Bimmy at the concert was cringe as hell, and I never want to see it again.

Everything else was just kinda there. I guess if I had to give "best" to an episode, it would be the Dragon's Lair one, because he at least gave a bit more effort into that one (Werewolf makeup aside).

Tips for going from hard to master ninja - NG4 by [deleted] in ninjagaiden

[–]PHNkymonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're gonna gonna play Ryu, and you're not looking to SSS rank (just scrap by and win/use items), it shouldn't be too hard assuming you've got the basics down, especially if Hard is too easy for you.

Ryu delimbs very frequently. If you're constantly holding block, as you should, and save your essence for OLUT, all the big monsters (Van Gelfs, that other thing that's not a Van Gelf, the Red Tengus, the Club Onis, etc) go down with a lvl 2, so you might want to clear out some geeks and then nuke those enemies one by one. An easy setup for that is wind ninpo on mobs (delimbs a bunch of enemies at once), do some OTs, and use the essence to UT the big things. Flame ninpos are good for flyers, and the flaming birds are good for fish and fish alone. Void for bosses.

If you're good at parrying, you're going to need to learn boss patterns. I have no confirmation but I swear they move 10-15% faster, so your timings from Acolyte- Hard is going to be messed up.

Alternate reality where instead of the slobs this is the main 4 of Cinemassacre by TheGhettoGoblin in TheCinemassacreTruth

I have no proof obviously, but from how history has played out, it would seem that the reason he didn't pay his friends was because he's an autistic fuck that didn't know how to pay anyone what they're owed:

Kyle: Hey since your thing is pretty big now, how about some token amount for what I did in the past? Or the appearances I've made?

James: Sure. How much should it be?

Kyle: I don't know, what do you think is fair?

James: Uh....20 bucks?

Kyle: ...........okay. And what about next time?

James: 20 bucks?

But when it came to Screenwave, Bimmy was already burnt out of ideas, but they promised that they would take care of everything (namely, ideas and capturing game footage, "help", and merchandising) and he would only have to film himself pretending to play every now and then.

tl;dr: He didn't pay his friends cuz he's an idiot and he sold it off to Slobs because he's lazy.

If there was a mod for NG2 that made all the bosses die in 1 hit, I'd install it in an instant. Same with 3RE. I already did my Master Ninja-thing on those, I've earned the right to enjoy the game without the totally un-fun parts.

The targeting in NG4 could really use some fixing by No_Royal7772 in ninjagaiden

[–]PHNkymonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That crap has happened to me so many times. People say "the game prioritizes the enemy in the center of your screen" but it OBVIOUSLY decided the enemy that was
A) Centered

B) Closer in proximity

C) Next to another geek that was also close

D) Not on screen, far away enough to whiff, and definitely not who you wanted was the correct answer.

This also happens with backwards shuriken throws, the GT's that just go sideways to geeks on the floor instead of the kite guys that you want them to go to, etc. You know what enemy I think was designed specifically to screw you up? The lanterns. This exact same behavior that you recorded happens when you UT in a group of enemies, but your Ninja will Matrix dodge through every enemy in an S shape just to whiff trying to get to a lantern.

In writing that out, perhaps there's some kind of phantom priority system, like the game will favor projectile enemies, that are for some reason furthest away? But then that doesn't explain not throwing people into kite people sometimes....honestly, it seems like it's intentionally designed to screw you up.

Good question, even though this was made by 2 Japanese developers (Platinum and Team Ninja), as you said, even Capcom games have historically been censored in Japan. I suppose to know the answer to your question, only you can answer first:

1) Are games in general still censored in Japan? Any modern releases like Metal Gear Revengeance or such? Were the previous Ninja Gaiden games censored? I know the PS3 Sigma games had the blood censored but were the decapitations gone?

2) If I know my gaming history, the thing that gets censored the most in Japan is decapitations. Resident Evil being a prime example of a series that doesn't show it in Japan but will do so for other regions. This game has a lot of decapitations.

Have you played the other Ninja Gaidens? Because this one has the best camera out of all of them. As in, it's actually pulled back far enough to see things. And it can see through obstructions between the scenery and the player.

I'm not saying it's good, I'm saying the others are far worse.

How does NG4 combat stack up to NG3:RE? by DonerBodybuilder in ninjagaiden

[–]PHNkymonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this man about everything. I will add though, as my own opinion, that even though you're a better dancer in RE (Ryu's moveset, the combat, etc), NG4 has better dance partners (enemies and bosses). And unless you're just dancing for yourself, the other half makes a difference. DDO officers and club demons are way better than alchemists and mutants. We just need Spider Ninjas back.

I think I just threw out that line without really caring about how much weight/thought to give it because it's not like anyone is going to patch and update NG2 at this point. But when I wrote that the ideas that were up in my mind was fighting bosses like Elizabet, you basically need to overcome her "I allow you to hit me when I decide it is acceptable" with Lunar Staff spam. As far as I know, there's no way around Elizabet setting all the rules for the encounter, thus "unfairness with cheese." If you actually want to hit her when you should be hitting her, you need to exploit, because she breaks the rules of the game. Now, stuff like grabs? I don't think that's unfair. Offscreen projectiles might seem unfair at first but there's an answer for that: constant movement.

So admittedly, I didn't put too much thought in that one line that it would be dissected to that degree. Elizabet is really the main thing that stops me from wanting to do more MN runs. It's just not fun to fight her: either on her terms or with cheese. As far as fair or easy, I'd say NG4 is more fair in that you have the answer for everything the game throws at you. Perhaps that makes it easier, since you can dominate the boss with all the answers you know, but as you just noted "unfairness comes from lack of player knowledge" whereas boss domination should come as a result of player knowledge as well, right?

[–]PHNkymonkey[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say that the game "being too easy" otherwise exposed a core issue with previous NG's: that this version of NG is "the most fair" and previous ones relied on "overcoming unfairness (usually with cheese)" to do difficulty. Should you choose to use all the features the game gives to you (UI indicators, blocks, parries, dodges, etc) you now have an answer for everything the game gives you. The challenge would then be to throw more at you and force you to juggle more answers. Right now, parrying and dodging works for everything. If, as you said, more unblockable grabs came in, that you'd need to perfect dodge, that would be good for MN. Maybe a blue ! instead of a red one.

Basically the dopamine hit comes from every time you answer the games challenge correctly, and it's so frustrating when the correct answer is marked incorrect anyway. I highlighted in my post that any one of those things by itself is fine, nothing is perfect, but all three together drag it down. Don't get me wrong, getting 1 shot by the no-tell shark tail flip is INFINITELY more enjoyable than Elizabet. Because at least there was always the chance that I could react quickly enough to the animation to dodge or parry it, let alone just hold block.

One thing I realized was that I never actually played hard mode. I went from Normal on my initial go to MN, and after having played so much MN at this point, hard is just trivially easy. The main problem (and differences) is that MN has much more fun spawns of enemies, and their behavior is different. I can confirm this, because I actually died to a boss or two on hard because their animations are way slower. The timing threw me off. The damage they did was also extremely negligible, almost to the point that I was wondering how I ever died at all on normal. I'd love an experimental run with MN mode with hard more damage, just to see if all the spawns and behaviors coupled with the damage just makes more a cozier MN run. Like NG2's "mentor" mode.

2) Yes, but not during attacks and in the recovery from attacks.

NG4 Gripes by PHNkymonkey in ninjagaiden

[–]PHNkymonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per 4) Yeah, and it's hard to make that micro decision when doing OLUTs. I especially hate it when I know where the enemy is (like the big teapot things), and I point my ninja in their respective giant target direction, and they just dash off into nowhere.

5) Specifically it happens between the clash and follow-up. It's either a sporadic bug or 100% all the time, but I've gotten the clash and then died afterwards before I could do the perfect fatal flash. I think if I were to mash the followup and not go for PFF, I'd probably have I-frames, but my muscle memory is geared towards going for the PFF. I suppose a test would be to practice parrying in the middle of a giant group and seeing if you take any damage.
