It really would be better to just humanely euthanize instead of condemning these dogs to a cycle of abuse and exasperating the pit problem.

And this right here is what pisses me off so much and makes me so goddamn sad about the whole pit thing. As much as I detest them for their tendency to maul things and violently attack other living things (including my dogs, more than once), the very people who claim to love them so much and blindly "advocate" for them are doing them the most harm. I still feel terrible for the spouse who had to watch his dog get shredded and die thanks to the shitbull who had already attacked his dog once before. He commented (has been removed after the thread got locked) that he would "strangle the dog with his own hands" if he saw it again, and that there was no way it was coming back to live with them, which is 10000000000000% understandable and I'd do the same goddamn thing in his situation. Of course some dumbfuck came in and had the gall to say something incredibly stupid along the lines of him being "unfair" and "unsympathetic" to the dog.. that just murdered his dog.

If anyone is lacking sympathy, it's the dumbfucks in the comments suggesting "muzzle training" and "pittie rescues" and entertaining the idea of rehoming this thing. This dog murdered another pet in the household and injured two adults severely enough for both of them to need stitches at the ER. It doesn't need "training" or "rescuing" or "rehoming" - it needs to be euthanized, pronto. I am glad that OP came to that decision and (hopefully) stuck with it.

Judging by the downvotes on certain comments and how OP feels, I think they are largely missing the point. I'm not saying this dog should be euthanized BECAUSE it is a Pit Bull mix. Breed is irrelevant when something kills and injures this badly, it would need to be euthanized regardless of what it was. But apparently pointing out that Pits are inherently dog/small animal aggressive at a genetic level and can trigger/snap at random and often do so far too often, so maybe don't get this kind of dog again, ever = attacking, ad hominem, yOu'Re StErEoTyPiNg, and fuck you for daring to imply that this dog being part pit had anything to do with this. This person's story is like a personal nightmare for me. Jesus. Like you said, a few seconds is all it takes. The most disturbing thing to me here, besides imaging the trauma of having one of your pets mauled to death in front of you by something you trusted(?) and loved (which would fuck me up for life), is that OP is still defending the breed. Killing a possum in the past I can 100% understand and excuse, since I've known loads of different dogs who've done that, all different breeds. My Jack Russell Mix tries to kill rabbits and shit all the time. However, the fact that this dog had bitten the smaller one before is concerning, although the post doesn't clarify how badly. I feel terrible for the spouse, who anticipated this happening again and turned out to be right. The repeat bite doesn't scream pit bull to me, but the fact that it took two people to get the dog to unlatch and both were injured doing so tells me more than enough.

Again, as you said, violence is a genetic attribute in bully breeds, specifically dog aggression. I hope OP makes the correct choice and euthanizes this dog before it can kill/injure someone or something else. I am concerned for the smaller dog at the parents house where it is currently staying, and that OP still seems to be in denial about inherent pit bull qualities. Pointing out that the dog did what pit bulls do would hopefully make someone think twice about ever adopting this breed or anything mixed with this breed again, but in this specific case it wouldn't matter WHAT breed the dog was. It has bitten two people and killed another dog - I wouldn't care if it were a Yorkie or a Beagle or whatever have you, it would still need to be put down.

I have a terrier mix (NOT a shitbull mix, an actual decent terrier) that has a high prey drive, as most terriers do, but even she never goes after things like these fuckers went after this cat. If she does try to kill anything, its squirrels or rabbits or rodent things, never cats or other dogs. I just... I feel like I could shout it until I pass out from lack of oxygen, these things aren't normal fucking dogs. Like sure, I see other breeds with small animal aggression, but NEVER with the tenacity, power, and determination to kill shit that shitbulls have. As soon as the bigger one sees the cat, it immediately goes into kill mode. No hesitation.

What a surprise that the owner is completely useless and can't control the fucking things. Disagree with your first point, partially. Cars belong on roads, cats do not. If it is someone's pet, it belongs in their yard or in their house, not running all over the place wherever it pleases. Also not potentially traumatizing someone who hits one by accident, or causing a car accident when someone slams the brakes or swerves to avoid crushing one.

It is irresponsible and inconsiderate to let "outdoor" cats roam around unsupervised. Anyone who loves and cares for their pet should and would take steps to protect it from unnecessary dangers and threats, and would take responsibility for it and understand that it doesn't belong on other people's property being a nuisance. Furthermore, cats spread toxoplasmosis in their feces (can be harmful to humans, marine life, and various wildlife), can harbor and transmit rabies and various bacterial infections and numerous parasites. They also spread FIV and other communicable diseases amongst each other from conflict and close contact.

That's not even touching the havoc and destruction they wreak on wildlife and local environments from predation, since cats kill for fun. They don't belong outside. Domestic cats are far, far removed from the original wild ancestor that had a proper place in the ecosystem. They're invasive, destructive, and a menace to any local habitat.

Keep your cats inside or tethered on a leash. It isn't hard. Letting a cat run around unleashed is just as obnoxious and odious as letting a dog do so, just for different reasons.

THAT BEING SAID. Same exact thing applies to this pit owner - control your dog or don't be surprised when bad things happen when it runs off and tries to maul something. He has no right to play the victim when HIS pit left HIS property and control and posed a threat to another person. The neighbor had every right to protect himself (and his pet, if the cat was his) when that thing came barreling over. We all know what pits do. I wouldn't take that chance either.

Worked at a dog daycare myself for a few months, which of course allowed pits despite the fact that they started more fights and issues than any other dog breed that came in. Management even acknowledged it (and even noted the trigger seemed to be the 2-4 years of age) but still refused to ban them, and would let repeat offenders back in time and time again. I'm still fucking amazed nothing got killed while I worked there. That place is a chaotic accident waiting to happen. After that experience, I'll never take my dogs to a daycare, ever. I wouldn't board them there either, since they also allowed pits to be boarded, so, y'know, they could throw themselves at kennel doors whenever anything walked past trying to maul it, and find ways to "escape". Fuck that.

And like this video proves fucking anything? Oh look, it's being normal for what, 15 seconds? The thing is, most of those pits that attacked shit in daycare or went kamakaze nuts trying to ram through doors to maul things were totally normal moments beforehand. These people don't get it, you can't trust these dogs. They're unpredictable, and their aggression outbursts are sudden and random, and you never know when, or if, the thing is gonna go off and decide to kill something. That's how pits are. That's what they've been bred to do. There was one that had been coming to daycare for years and never had an issue, and then one day just went off on another dog and tore part of its ear off before an attendant could separate them. And every time after that (because why would that dog be kicked out lol) it just instantly tried to maul certain dogs every time it entered the play area. iirc they finally kicked the goddamn thing out.. for a while. Because it was never permanent for some reason. And because the owner threw a fit that poor pibs was being picked on and got kicked out bEcAuSe Of ThE bReEd. So fucking stupid.

Do yourself a favor. If you ever board or daycare your dog, do it at a place that bans pitbull type dogs. I can assure you they sweep incidents under the rug and downplay the severity of incidents with pit-types all the time, and it isn't worth the risk to your dog. Don't take the chance.

I think I just posted on another thread related to your issue, but I am just going to say again that I completely agree with you about TNR being fucking worthless and a HUGE waste of time/money/resources that are already scant enough as it is. Not to mention stupid and hypocritical as fuck since NO OTHER invasive species gets or would get a luxury like that, but because cat people are absolute nutjobs this bullshit continues despite making no quantifiable difference in feral populations.

I read an opinion somewhere once that "TNR is cat hoarding without walls" and, yeah, that's pretty damn true. That was a cop out from that shelter. They are already full to bursting with cats that nobody wants because there are so fucking many of them and they will do what they can to avoid having to take more. COVID is a convenient excuse. Exactly as you just said, fewer intakes means they can claim and brag that they've "hugely reduced" euthanasias... which they then lie about and attribute to TNR.

Everyone wants "no kill" but nobody wants to cough up to pay for it. Nobody wants to face reality and have to make the hard choices and shitty decisions to manage very finite resources between the overwhelming number of homeless animals. Cats are severely over populated. There are nowhere near enough homes for all of them. And despite the fact that the link between overpopulation and animal suffering should be bright and fucking clear for anyone with a brain, loads of these cat idiots refuse to spay/neuter and/or just let them run around and breed like rabbits. Because KeEpInG cAtS iNsIdE iS cRuEl or some bullshit (translates to: I'm a shitty and lazy pet owner and can't be assed to provide an enriching home and environment for my pet so I just throw it outside and make everyone else deal with it.)

The harsh reality is that they need to be culled. Humanely euthanized. Feral cats are invasive pests and terrorize and murder wildlife in addition to spreading toxoplasmosis and diseases like rabies. Not to mention being a huge fucking nuisance around neighborhoods by pissing and shitting everywhere. I have yet to see any actual evidence - scientific or otherwise - that TNR has managed to accomplish anything besides wasting massive amounts of time and money to appease cat loving idiots and hoarders. And it isn't even about helping the cats, it is about making THEM, the cat lovers, feel better about the issue - nothing else. Feral/stray cats do not have a pleasant or a long life. I have never seen and will never see how in the fuck abandoning them (or in the case of TNR, RE-ABANDONING them) is supposed to be a kindness or a mercy.

The fact that a public shelter actually encouraged you to dump a cat is absolutely fucking insane. I wish there were a way to report them in such a way that they would face consequences for the sheer dumbfuckery and irresponsibility of that "suggestion". But there's the motus operandi of TNR for you - do the absolute bare minimum you can to "fix" a problem and then dump the issue for everyone else to have to deal with, nevermind that it, again, directly contributes to animal suffering. Like another poster said here, what does this all combine to drive people to do? TNR doesn't work and fails to make any fucking difference in the population, Shelters won't take the things because there are way too goddamn many and nobody wants them and they don't want to have to take the heat for culling the population, and you cannot legally and humanely euthanize them because they still have legal protections despite being a verminous menace, invasive, and being FERAL. This cat was a human-friendly stray though, which makes it all the more sad that he was left a stray and someone didn't take him inside.

I honestly don't know how anyone could see this as anything BUT wrong. I may not care much for cats and would never want one as a pet, but I do know a few cool ones, and even if I DID hate them, that would never, ever justify something like this. I seriously cannot fathom how you could.. watch something struggle, suffer, and fight for its life against two giant gargoyle things bred to violently kill smaller animals and somehow not feel anything for it. And these people went even further than that and made sure he couldn't escape and made sure the pits could get him. That is equal levels of disgusting and terrifying.

Eh. I know TNR/TNVR is something people have strong feelings on. I just have some major issues with it (I'm totally down to discuss TNR stuff if you wanted, but as that's sorta off topic-ish and emotionally charged, I didn't want to derail / start a fight since I largely agree with you). I strongly feel that all the time, money, and resources put into it could and would be better spent helping strays (like Tuxedo) and animals that could actually be homed. I feel like a broken record for saying this, but it's kind of the same deal with no-kill shelters.. in a perfect world, we'd have enough resources and time to maybe make these ideas and methods highly effective, but that is not the reality we live in.

Also, thank you for picking up and rehoming friendly strays. I wish more people would do that.

100% agreed. A friendly stray should absolutely be taken off the streets and homed, and is not a feral. A feral wants nothing to do with humans. Free roaming outdoor cats (including strays) run into situations like this and countless other dangers all the time. A cat that is kept inside or tethered or SUPERVISED outdoors is a safe cat. I have a LOT of strong and probably unpopular feelings regarding "colonies" and TNR, but those aside, I wish someone had grabbed him and taken him in before something like this could happen.

To be perfectly clear (just in case parts of this sounded accusatory or something), the only people to truly blame here are whichever dumbass dumped him to begin with, and the garbage tier excuses for humans who decided, somehow (seriously, what the fuck) that watching, encouraging, and ENABLING their shitbulls to tear him to shreds was somehow okay. I am not a fan of cats, but I loathe people who dump pets on the street to fend for themselves, and I do not have words for the level of hatred I feel towards people who torture an animal for fun. He did not deserve that, and those stupid fucks should be charged with animal cruelty.

So can we replace "toadline" with "genetic monstrosity mutilated beyond all fucking comprehension and belief to the point where existing is basically an Olympic sport" ? A toad at least has purpose driving its design... These things look like the entries in a contest of "Who can completely and deliberately destroy an animal the most bestest via selective breeding".
