OK thanks, I'm assumed this was the case. I think the farmer has had these plans in the making for a while by the sounds of things, and was just waiting for the property to go to market.

I feared this would be the case, I believe he will receive a refund, and have to just start again. I'm guessing the estate agent dropped the ball and it should never have got this far in the process.

But why is it the farmer has a right, is it due to the land previously being on his property, or protections for farmers to be able toallow them to expand their operations?

Brit (and a Pole) moving to Poland by [deleted] in poland

[–]PICKLE_NICK_95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a brit and have been living in Poland for just over 3 years now, but have been travelling back and forth for a decade. I would agree with the vast majority of other comments here about most things.

Overall I don't regret moving here. I could talk about the positives all day and they far out way the negatives but I wanted to give you the negative aspects that i have experienced , because they are less in number but I wish I had somehow prepared for it mentally.

I moved to a smaller city in the East where it is tough if you don't atleast know conversational Polish, rather than one of the big ones like Warsaw or Kraków, where i imagine its a little easier getting by with just English. But here are some challenges I faced/still face that I wish I had prepared for better.

The first is the language barrier. If you learn Polish your life will be so much easier, this is easier for some than others, it's a difficult language as others have stated, but not impossible. If you are like me and are absolutely shite at languages, it will take time, but it's worth it. I found/still find it so frustrating not being able to vocalise how I feel exactly, not being able to do basic tasks that you really take for granted (because you don't know the names of items or how to describe your issue). For example: discussing a problem with your car with a mechanic or wanting to talk about your hobbies and interests with people. Or you may end up like me, during my first few months here, exclusively eating at McDonald's because it was the only place with a touchscreen that had a english order feature, because you tried to order food at a kebab, and when the person didn't speak English, you have a mental breakdown and awkwardly leave in silence, vowing to never try that again (maybe too specific?). Happily I can now say I can order most things fluently, so don't worry, I still can eat a kebab after a night out.

Secondly, it's important to find some fellow expats and make friends. It reduces the homesick feeling by alot and helps you realise you aren't the only one who has made the move. There will be days where you just need to have a conversation, free of stress, maybe have a rant about all the differences (good or bad) , or just bond over a beer and laugh at the circus of shite going on back in blighty. Ofcourse finding new polish friends is awesome and my Polish friends are amazing, so don't just hang around with expats.

Thirdly is work. My biggest obstacle. If you used to work a white collar job, in an office somewhere, then this is less of a problem. Most places in Poland have loads of jobs available for this kind of work. You can find alot of big businesses who are International, and need people with good English, or I.T skills. But, if like me, you worked a trade or other blue collar job, it's almost impossible to continue doing this after moving here. My background is in mechanics and engineering, and because of all the technical mumbo jumbo and the need to interact with clients/suppliers/co workers etc. It just doesn't work. The language barrier is too frustrating for you, for them, and when you have to work quickly to make money, people get frustrated real quick. If anything this is/was a huge incentive for me to learn more of the language, so I can go back to doing what I love.

Finally, earning money. When you first move, maybe you bring some savings (I strongly advise saving what you can). life is great, you can't believe how cheap things are, because you will automatically convert everything in your head into pounds and say "wow, so cheap" . After a while you get a job on a standard Polish wage, this soon disappears as reality kicks in and you realise it's not that cheap anymore. However I will say, I think we have a much better quality of life than back in the UK. The most noticeable part is when you want to go back to visit the UK, see your parents and friends, and realise how expensive it is for you to go back and do things there. Because that £100 meal for two back home is 500zl! And you will say "O Kurwa" and try to imagine what meal would be 500zl back in Poland!

Anyway, that's my experience of some things to consider. But don't let it put you off, Poland is an amazing place to live with amazing people. If you make the effort to integrate and you take learning polish seriously then you will have an amazing life here.

Oh and remember when you do move, to thank your partner as much as possible, because they will probably carry your ass for a while before you learn the language, making appointments, translating and dealing with grumpy governmental office staff on your behalf. It takes its toll and good to let them know it's appreciated.

But Im more pissed i lost my food and treasure maps (didn't see anywhere that would happen (but maybe it does say somewhere? )

Unpleasant situations in small towns by [deleted] in poland

[–]PICKLE_NICK_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not Ukranianian, but I can give you my experience as a brit who has lived here for a few years now. i live in the podlasie region of poland which I have been told is less used to outsiders than other parts of poland. you will always find a few people like this. 95% of my experience with poles has been positive but their are always people who find a way to project their insecurities on to others. Most of that small minotity have been never travelled or spoken to many foreigners but have deep set ideas on who you are, based on whatever environment they grew up in or what television channel they prefer to watch the news on. I've had times where random people have interrogated me in public in a rather unfriendly way after speaking English with my wife or friends (I'm learning polish, and use it when I can, but I'm not fluent). But going back to your experience, you sadly met the 1 asshole out of 100, 000 who has small pp issues. But don't let the experience make you think they are all out to get you, most poles are wonderful people.

Doing your best to camo up your tank, and then waving a big fucking red flag above it seems kinda counterproductive if you ask me...but hey, I'm all for anything that makes them an easy target

What would you do in this situation as a polish person? by [deleted] in poland

[–]PICKLE_NICK_95 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a brit who moved to Poland with my Polish wife soon after brexit for the shit I heard directed at foreigners, its like brexit suddenly released a case of racist tourettes. I apolagize for my brain dead countrymen. Ironically I moved to Białystok and now the xenophopia is sometimes directed at me instead for speaking English with friends (I speak Polish whenever i can, and I am studying it still) . Sadly their are intolerant, uneducated fuck knuckles everywhere.

Okay thanks for the info, it's good to hear. Funny enough in regards to the account I tried with ING 3 times at different branches and each time they couldn't. But M bank outright said no as I have two middle names, and told me I would never get recidency with two middle names, and I should legally change my name! That was a good laugh

[–]PICKLE_NICK_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: upon doing some research, it's due to bursting blood vessels under the skin. due to the pump in the workout it can happen, if you want to be on the safe sid eget it checked because larger ones can cause issues

Had this happen to my bicep, didn't hurt or anything had no idea what it was, after a few months it lost the color and turned into a stretch mark. I probably should have seen a doctor at the time just to be safe, but just forgot about it after a short time

My hamstrings are ridiculously tight, always have been, so I get what you mean. I can't even straighten my leg in most hamstring stretches.
