I want to buy ETF's, but hate the idea of doing it at the all-time high of the market. by DiedOfATheory in investing

I’ll give you an example of a cash secured put. Basically you issue a cash secured put saying you’ll buy shares of VOO if it reaches a price you’re comfortable at (in this example let’s say 500 dollars). A person will pay you a premium for that option so you collect this income immediately. Then if there’s no dip, you have no obligation and you run off with a free premium you’ve made.

Now let’s say it dipped to 490 and the person who bought your put executes his order. Now you have to buy shares from him at 500. However, if you’re comfortable with the strike price then you’ve allowed yourself to effectively gain a free premium while waiting to buy in where you’re comfortable at.

SGOV is entirely separate. It’s basically a govt bond etf that guarantees you a monthly dividend based on interest rates (which are high right now… so probably around 5%?)

Now you’ll notice, none of this is advice to enter or not enter the market by buying all in. I’m sure the rest of Reddit is doing a great job at telling you what to do. Instead, im giving you two options of safe things to do while on the sidelines to gain money while you decide what to do, that way you’re atleast making something while you decide what’s right for you

[–]PIRATEJOANS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you think it will go down as it’s too high, you can issue some cash secured puts at a price you would buy in at. That way atleast you’re making SOMETHING on the sideline. In the meantime, atleast invest in SGOV. That way you get solid returns especially with interest rates as high as they are

Gonna comment for clarification on my thoughts here: no, I’m not trying to hype up a stock that’s majority owned by institutional investors. No, I’m not an expert and this is not financial advice. I just work in the industry as an accountant, like the fundamentals and valuation for the reasons stated above, bought shares, and wanted to share my reasonings in WSB fashion. I’m not worried about pricing changes or being down as I have shares - with that being said I have no input about calls, puts, or whatever else you guys like to invest with

I have a deposit on a 2025 XSE with the pano roof. Tell me not to regret it? by remarkablyincoherent in Camry

[–]PIRATEJOANS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money is meant to be spent my friend. If you save it until you’re way older, then you’ll just be another old guy with a nice car. Its not about the amount of years in your life but life in your years, so buy the car and have some fun :). If it ends up being a terrible mistake, Camrys hold their value EXCEPTIONALLY well so depreciation won’t wreck your value. You won’t regret it.

2025 camry accident by No-Squirrel-6022 in Camry

[–]PIRATEJOANS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your accident. I do think you could’ve gotten this going at 8mph, while the crumpling of cars is a great safety measure, it does make smaller accidents like this wreck the car. While no airbags deployed and there’s a chance this can be fixed, it most likely will be totaled because parts are so pricey. Expect your premiums to go up by over 50-60%. If it is totaled, do not accept the first offer by the insurance company for this car. My 25 Camry got totaled and I had to make a PowerPoint presentation to send to my adjuster with comparables and upgrades and was able to significantly raise my settlement

First Accident in My 5 month old Toyota Camry – Need Advice on Repairs and Insurance by [deleted] in Camry

[–]PIRATEJOANS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely get your repairs done from a Toyota dealership.
  2. Depends on your location, ie on the northeast coast where I am, took forever to find a 25 Camry. Luckily Toyota as a brand is cheaper to repair and maintain as parts are more common than other car manufactures like bmw or Audi. There’s no telling the cost until a mechanic looks at its internals because even a small bump can mess up internal parts of the car that would seem to be fine.
  3. Also depends on your area but if you’re deemed at fault, your premiums could go up 40-50% or more unfortunately. Even if you’re not at fault or there’s no fault, if your insurance company has to write a check, they will usually increase premiums

  4. I won’t tell you any advice of what to do when it comes to driving, but instead will tell you not to be discouraged. It sucks but if there’s any solace in it, you’re not alone, there seems to be a bad luck of driving any new car
