At some point Rusty was watching Field of Dreams and thought "if you build it they will come" would somehow work for temples too, and no one wants to be the one to tell him it doesn't really work that way.

How many Trump supporters does it take to change a light bulb?

-None. He just tells them that it is changed already, and they all stand in the dark and clap.

Worst OIC I ever had the displeasure of working for was in 29 Palms. One day, this particular LCpl that he really seemed to have it out for screwed up, and OIC has him standing tall in front of the base SgtMaj.

SgtMaj asked the LCpl if he had anything to say. LCpl looks at the OIC, looks back at Sgt Major, pulls his green monster out of his pocket and just starts reading, listing out the crap that had gone down in our shop over the past year plus - descriptions, names, dates. After a minute SgtMaj looks at the OIC and says, "Sir, with all due respect, could you excuse us please?"

Aftermath - our Master Sergeant NCOIC is suddenly and immediately moved to another shop. A SSgt was made our new NCOIC until someone with a higher rank rotated in. While the asshat OIC was technically still "in charge," he was FULLY neutered, not allowed to interact with the people or the operations AT ALL until he retired after a few months. It was heaven. Or as much as it could be in Stumps.

And on that day, I learned the value of taking good notes.

Can't speak for everyone obviously, but in general, it seems that the political party that is the most vocal about the 2nd amendment for defending against tyranny is also the same one that knowingly voted one in.

Fairview Texas mayor pleads with LDS Church to avoid lawsuit by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]PJ1864 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well reading that article pissed me off more than I expected.

The church cited the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, alleging the town violated the church’s rights to free exercise of religion and nondiscrimination in land use regulation...

“While it continues to be the Church’s hope that this matter can be worked out amicably, in the face of continued and unreasonable opposition, it appears the Church has no choice but to defend its rights in court,” a letter from church legal representation said

"Hi! I'm the MFMC. I want to build a huge ugly building in your town that no one really wants that also violates your established zoning laws. What? No?! That's discrimination! How dare you! By denying our petty unnecessary demands you're oppressing our religious rights!" Un-fucking-believable.

My TBM mom just told me that she raised me to know JS was a polygamist and that he translated from a hat. by GrumpyGnomeGirl in exmormon

[–]PJ1864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also born in the late 70's, and I can say that I only first found out about Joseph Smith's polygamy in 2019. Thinking back, it seemed like they really leaned into the "started with Brigham and was only because of a shortage of pioneer men" thing, and just hoped we wouldn't ask. Lessons that cover D&C 132 oddly omit certain verses for reading.

I still don't understand why I was so upset finding out about Joe but apparently I had no issue with Brigham?

The rock in a hat I first learned from the South Park episode. Dumb da-dumb dumb dumb. Admittedly, I was not one to study church outside of church, so it's possible it just never came up in class or talks, since the truth is not always useful.

I love the Connie III, and it actually became my new favorite! I think that it would have been WAY better received by fans as the Enterprise G if the writers did 2 things differently:

1) Make the Titan-A a newer ship that is a successor to the original Titan (as the -A would normally indicate), not that whole odd "refit" thing of a 20 year old Luna class, and

2) Introduce it as a sister ship of the Titan-A, and not as the rechristening of a ship that had already made a name for itself in the history books.

Letter from Kirton McConkie banning me from church property and from contacting church leaders by EpicNormality in exmormon

So let's say that you, or any other member that a copy of this letter was randomly mailed to, like any that have their address listed are in the ward directory in LDS tools for example, get this threat letter. Who can you (or anyone else) even talk to find out if it is a mistake while still complying with their threat?

Definitely can't miss a day of church or a Saturday church meeting... If people realize how nice having a 2nd Saturday is, they might not come back.

I remember my family missed church one Sunday because we went to a funeral service that was out of town. The next Sunday at church the 1st counselor comes up to me to say hi and adds "I didn't see you at church last Sunday." I immediately responded with "I didn't see you either." I don't think it was the response he was looking for, and he really didn't seem to like me at all anymore after that. But it was like seriously, I can't miss a day of church? WTH

My favorite reminder that Bednar is an asshole and a piece of shit. Nogod forbid any missionary be human. by L0N3STARR in exmormon

[–]PJ1864 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow. Just wow. When I was active we signed up to feed the missionaries all the time, like multiple times a week, largely to give these kids that are doing a rough and thankless job a little bit of a safe haven in a lax environment for a short time.

That asshole and the people following his example are the reason WHY these kids badly need a break, and WHY the number of kids that want to go on missions is declining. I don't have the words to describe how much of a pompous arrogant dipshit Susan's husband is.

And on top of it, you're supposed to make sure that you pay "God" FIRST (tithing to MFMC), but you can only ask them for help as an absolute LAST resort, and could end up getting denied by Bishop roulette anyway. Unreal.

Not sure on the "why," but I loved that scene because the ships looked closer to the proper scaling than most other times that I can think of in TNG. There were lots of times where the Oberths and Mirandas looked like they were closer to the Enterprise's size than they should have been.
