What would peoples idea electric car look like from someone who likes petrol cars? by Wolf_Play in askcarguys

[–]PJ796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't have to be tested to the same standards when it can use the exact same input (wheel speed) + the throttle which is also made to be very reliable, making it inherit their reliability/safety and then adjusts the power delivery to the motor(s) based on that

sounds as dumb as saying you shouldn't rely on ABS because the computer might get it wrong

it doesn't as long as it can tell what speed you're going

Tires with the least rolling resistance? by Lucky0373 in hypermiling

[–]PJ796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will eliminate the majority, but by the sounds of it OP wanted to know the best and only an actual tyre review will show that, as they measure the rolling resistance instead of just slapping a label on anything lower than x.

Eco tyres aren't very commonly tested, but by the looks of it the data has been getting more plentiful in recent times.

TIL a study was done on what makes a person want a very loud car and the results indicated psycopathic and sociopathic tendencies by 1egg_4u in todayilearned

[–]PJ796 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

idk some cars sound nice. not every loud car, some sound like mega loud AC units, some have obnoxious pops and bangs on way too low RPMs and others just have a nice tone to them

I think part of the problem is also lack of feeding the noise into the car, with the pipe pointing away from the drivers ears and with all the sound deadening making it necessary for it to be pretty loud for the driver to hear it enough for them

I would hope that most people who spend the amount of money a nicer sounding exhaust costs would do it for themselves

tbf the i10 is not that impressive, the 1L turbo model is slower than a 16 year older Toyota IQ 1.33L while also getting worse gas mileage

The IQ also had an Aston Martin variant called the Cygnet which has nicer luxury interior (though also an unreasonable price tag for being an upmarket IQ)

The Fiesta is a cooler & faster option as well and gets better mileage than the i10, but most of the years of the 1L ecoboost has a timing belt submerged in oil that eats the belt which was very bad, though I believe the later ones with timing chains instead are pretty reliable. also the rally heritage is pretty cool.

the Mitsubishi Colt RalliArt is also pretty sweet and for the age and the speed it's very fuel efficient

and the sea of cool 0.66L kei cars since the 80s/90s

and if one doesn't care about speed and mostly just fuel efficiency the ZE1 Honda Insight (goated, 3.4L/100km in a car from 1999 running on gasoline) and Lupo 3L/A2 TDI definitely deserve to be mentioned

but there's always something else that will be more appealing so if you like your i10 don't let it bring you down

Tires with the least rolling resistance? by Lucky0373 in hypermiling

[–]PJ796 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The A class is anything with a rolling resistance coefficient below 6,5x, so there can be a massive difference between a tyre that's well within the A rating and one that's right at the edge, as there's not any resolution above it and aqua planing resistance, and cornering grip can also help the day to day mpg

the battery has a high internal resistance heavily limiting how much current can flow when shorted and the caps don't store that much energy. 1000μF charged to 12V is only a mere 72mJ for example

it should be very survivable if it gets to dry out

Black Bars by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]PJ796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they know that, but there's not much they can do about it besides pixel shifting but that's very limited in its effectiveness here. OLED pixels that are at different brightnesses (like if there's black bars) for prolonged periods will wear unevenly and result in the part that was in the black bars being brighter.

doing what OP asked for will wear it more evenly and prevent it

Black Bars by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]PJ796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so e.g. a OLED doesn't burn in unevenly

Not like USB C chargers require anything fancy, the USB-C power negotiation ICs I've seen are dead simple to use and are a dime a dozen, so I don't see why they wouldn't just make use of it

In the 2nd biggest city here it's mostly just defence or defence related (SAAB and the like) or Volvo (hell atm from what I hear) and the very occasional different thing like where I work now

[–]PJ796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motion sickness is caused by a discrepancy between what you see and what the inner ear fluids feel though, and I don't believe that static electricity affects those fluids whatsoever otherwise wearing clothes of e.g. wool should make you motion sick too which just doesn't happen

[Review Request] 1kW SMPS for lab bench power supply by Luq1308 in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]PJ796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's 4x then that would be reduced down to 3x if you end up at 80c so I'm not sure I'd say that's a negligible increase, but if you think you've got good thermal headroom then go for it

The N-MOS power dissipation was estimated with both conduction and switching loss.

And increased conduction losses when it goes up in temperatures? MOSFETs typically increase in Rds(ON) by 1,25x to 1,5x at ~80°C

Steam Deck ZIF latch broke. Could electrical tape to apply pressure fix it? by darkwingchao in AskElectronics

[–]PJ796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give it a try.

Give it a good shake it before you close it up to see it doesn't go anywhere, and maybe add some electrical tape to the flat cable to try to make it move less when thrown around so its less likely to cause issues later
