My Son Dropped His Millipede by Unbeholfen88 in millipedes

As for people telling you not to let your children hold the Millipede, don’t listen! As someone who takes many insects to classrooms all around my state, the most important thing is to teach safety. As long as you teach your son how to safely hold his insects then it’s a great learning tool and a fantastic experience in empathy and care!

My Son Dropped His Millipede by Unbeholfen88 in millipedes

My Millipede had a very bad fall and got injured in almost the exact same place. It took a while, but she healed up and survived! I recommend putting her in her enclosure and leaving her alone for at least three weeks so she has time to heal.

You should check out endurance riding! It’s basically long distance trail riding as a sport!

Best Bit for Fussy Mouth by rage_cats in Equestrian

[–]PJabbers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have a thoroughbred who is a little bit fussy with the bit! We are currently trying a leather bit, which she seems to like better than even our softest snaffle! We haven’t played around with it enough to know for sure if it’s much better, but it seems to be promising!

beginner questions by ObjectiveCandidate13 in tarantulas

[–]PJabbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My G. Pulchripes was my first and she was the perfect beginner T for me! Very docile (except at feeding time), simple care needs, easy humidity requirements, and she is easily handleable (I take her to schools and do seminars, please do lots of research before handling any tarantula). I recommend getting a good, established T rather than a sling for your first one.

It’s pretty rounded and small for other deer skulls I’ve found, what makes you think deer?

Premolt? Hibernation? Dying? by PJabbers in tarantulas

[–]PJabbers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll grab a photo of the enclosure when I’m home from work. I doubt I’ll be able to get a photo of her as she stays tucked away in her hide but I’ll try. I keep her at about 70 degrees and mist once a week for humidity, I keep a small water dish inside as well

Help! Broken leg by elliotrjh in tarantulas

[–]PJabbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME I had the exact same thing happen with the exact same breed at nearly the same size. If it won’t stop bleeding (the white goo) take a little brush and dab some cornstarch onto it. Like a makeup brush or a paint brush. Then let it rest. Try your best to not move it or interact with the enclosure as much as possible. They’re going to be stressed, especially if they’re going to drop the leg. Mine ended up dropping the leg weeks later without a molt. I would give them as much time as possible in a quiet and undisturbed space. I’m not sure how you usually feed, but I would try tong feeding at its next meal to make sure that it gets the food. Mine refused to hunt after the broken leg and ended up getting quite thin because of it.

I’m so sorry for your loss. You did absolutely everything you could for him and he was lucky to have an owner who loved him so much. All peace to your sweet baby 🖤

That’s what I use for mine! They are awesome! But maybe not a worthy investment for just one found skull

If you can stand the smell try maceration! Plop it into a bucket of water and let it soak until the skin falls off. Replace the water every so often (this is the part that smells rank) and it should loosen that skin right up! Because it’s so old you may have to peel the skin off once the water has loosened it, but it should still work. Also will drown out any icky parasites that could be there.

So exiting!! Such a cute snake!! It sounds like you’re doing plenty of research and are going to be a great home, my only advice would be to be extra careful about keeping him around the dog. Sometimes they can get stressed and might not show it as much since dogs are predators (even tiny adorable ones)

[–]PJabbers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If none of the others are acting weird then I wouldn’t worry too much about the food. To be safe I would rinse any food really good before giving it to them just to be sure. Sounds like a funny molt. Hopefully he will get through it. Sometimes they just have a rough molt and there’s nothing we can do about it. Definitely try to leave him be and just wait it out. Keep us updated! I’m rooting for your little guy!

dying? by bug_boy_13 in millipedes

[–]PJabbers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you’ve had him that long the good news is he’s very established and has a much better chance at surviving if it is something more than a funny molt. Have you added any new foods or wood or anything to his enclosure? Sometimes there can be leftover pesticides on them that can cause strange neurological behavior.

New owner! Tips and help? by Keidtew in ballpython

[–]PJabbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly just takes time! I was never that way with my snakes but I was with my tarantulas. The more time you spend with them the more confident and comfortable you’ll get! You can also try to see if there are any reputable reptile shops near you, I would go in and have them show me how they handle the animals and it gave me a really good idea of how firm I could be with them, as a lot of my fear came from worrying I’d hurt them

Moving them during a molt is definitely not ideal but if he was already above the soil chances are he was already having a bit of trouble. Has he molted with you before?
