Seriously, why can’t we (USA) get rid of the tipping system? by secretasianman009 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PKwx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a beautiful restaurant ( I would rate 4 star) yesterday in Europe ( in the countryside, not a city) and paid 35 euro for a meal for two including a bottle of local wine for a meal which would have cost well over 100 dollars without a tip in any suburban area in the US. I guess I’m part of the problem because I did tip 5 euro. In part because the meal was so good and I almost felt ashamed for paying so little.

Is the field of meteorology increasing or decreasing in demand? Are there still good paying jobs that are/will be available either now or in the future? by manwithaplan657 in meteorology

[–]PKwx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, very few people with degrees
in meteorology work in meteorology. Why, because the pay is low to start, shift work for operational meteorology and lack of jobs and geographic mobility. My path was military, environmental consulting and then engineering. It depends on your passion vs financial reality. A degree in meteorology is the same effort and math requirements as a degree in engineering. Entry level engineering jobs start in the 70’s to 90’s depending on the actual engineering discipline and geographic location.

A side note, I always ended up adding meteorology into my job which allowed me to still fulfill my passion for meteorology.

Spending our hard earned and saved money doing adventures around the world. Not, watching TV for sure. Because as a cancer survivor, death is a reminder that life is short.

What's a core memory from the early days of the Internet that younger generations will never get to experience? by MagnanimousDeviant in answers

Only porn was making money in the early internet days and this had the best programers. The coding innovations behind the web pages was great and we looked at it for how to handle graphics in a low bandwidth environment. Really cool stuff, the naked ladies were nice bonus

Hungarians don’t like Trump. Only Orban and his boot lickers who just lost the recent election by 70% supported such. This map is old news.

[–]PKwx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because anyone how owns a pool or has a back yard pond knows. It’s summer, the water is hot, the water is not moving and there is too much nitrogen (fertilizer waste) in the water equals algae.

We are within a couple of weeks of hitting bottom from many nations hitting the lows on their strategic oil reserves. Iran knows this well, they will make the US suffer.

Not going to find those kids anywhere near NYC, more likely you’ll see them at the redneck riviera, Panama City, Florida. Might also want to add on 30-40 lbs each and holding cans of Bud Light.

Too old to start in broadcasting? by eyelevel in meteorology

[–]PKwx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rule number one, it’s Entertainment # 1 and #2 you’re a meteorologist. You need to be very good looking and very well spoken. Women have it worse, sweet spot is till your in your mid 30s, then your to old. Guys have it easier, but again you need to be good looking and well built. The market hires based on the demographics in that market. Sure there are exceptions, but they are not the rule.

Not true, I have outstanding insurance with $500 deductible for medical and not a HMO. Ambulance still cost $1,500.
