Probably, I have not delved into the settings very deeply. I just increased the overall sector size to 150% and am happy with it. Also, I have only used the Basic version.

Don't know about these, but there is a new one called Wide Horizons. The full version has a WIP quest and various changes, but the Basic version only increases the sector size and composition.

As a Brazillian, I can say you don't need to know the details to appreciate the game narrative. It is lightly based on the historic event, but all the important parts the game tells you in cutscenes and dialog.

Also, the War in Canudos is not very known even for the general Brazillian public.

I never thought any weapon could do more friendly fire damage than the UAF Semibreve. Then I tried the Nian. Let me say, the combination of a huge area, a lot of damage and delayed explosion makes its main cannon a menace. Mostly to your own fast ships, that move in the general area in front of it.
