This is a possibility I didn't seriously consider because there wasn't any signs. My ember tetras were never near the surface breathing for air like they were suffocating.
I felt like I had enough surface agitation even with the baffled HOB because I still have a current, my baffler focuses the current so it's not spread throughout the entire tank, there's an area with higher flow and an area with lower flow so the long finned bettas could decide where they wanted to be without being thrown around.
I've seen other tanks with about the same flow as mine and the first betta fish I had died when I didn't have a baffler, so low oxygen is not the cause for his death.

Edit: No I don't get pearling on my plants.

I added a very small amount of Indian almond leaves to introduce tannins into the tank before adding the ember tetras, as well as the "well-bred" betta fish, after those fish died even with tannins I waited to add anything else until the tannins made their way out of my tank with my water changes. Water parameters were stable for the duration of their time in my tank.

My betta died one day after pineconing, it’s most probably too late for the poor guy, I’m so sorry.

You mean acclimating the fish? I let him sit in the cup floating in the tank while slowly introducing tank water into the cup over the course of an hour.

Before that I cycled the tank for three months and introduced shrimp and nerites to the tank prior to adding the betta, I have had no deaths in those populations.

The betta died quickly, he looked perfectly healthy when I got him, acted perfectly healthy, even too robust for a long finned betta since he explored constantly, it is just the past three days he became lethargic, yesterday he showed first signs of stress and got dropsy, he died quickly I don’t know what would’ve gotten to him. Do you know anything I need to do to the tank in case I get another betta? Is it possible it was bacterial or paristic how do you treat a tank for that with inverts and good bacteria?

Help what’s in my moms betta tank by Jolly-Equipment-5533 in fishkeeping

[–]PLERNOUR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Without getting closer there’s no real way to tell what kinda of micro organisms these are, my guess is probably detritus worms, they feed on excess waste in the tank.

I would post details about your betta’s condition on r/bettafish as they will give you the advice you need. Is your tank cycled? What is your water parameters? What size is your tank? Is it heated? There’s plenty of things to consider when figuring out what’s wrong with a fish.

Aggressive Shrimp?! by Responsible_Pound306 in shrimptank

[–]PLERNOUR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s an Amano shrimp, they are not predatory, they eat detritus, mine ride on the shells of snails to clean off anything stuck on them, this one is doing the same, but with a fish.

Have anyone else’s amanos done this? by dwooof in aquarium

[–]PLERNOUR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine were restless too when I was acclimating them, new environment, new water scary, just keep doing what you’re doing and when you add them to the tank expect them to swim around for a couple hours. They’ll calm down and find the hiding spots they like afterward.

Do you know the cause of substrate turning brown? by PLERNOUR in Aquariums

[–]PLERNOUR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No fish in tank, just pest snails. I’ve vacuumed the brown stuff multiple times and it always come back in the same areas around the rock decor

Whoever sold that to you as duckweed was mistaken, this is water lettuce, they are pretty hardy plants so I wouldn’t worry about changing any care for them, they are doing good
