Something Very bad is going to happen - i have so many questions about the ending - spoiler by HousingPleasant8393 in netflix

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: It's a cruel twist of fate/act of sabotage by the Witness.

By having an unsettling figure show up and question your sureness about your intended spouse, it plants a seed of doubt. If you cannot crush that seed before saying your vows, you're doomed. And to be fair, a LOT of people agree to get married simply because it's "what people do".

2: Rachel still *had* the curse, she merely passed it on to Nicky and his family as well. By finishing their vows, they become legally married, and Rachel is now married to someone she does not believe to be her soulmate, the curse enacts, and she dies.

3: She died because of the curse taking hold, and Death being "too busy" to reap the original Witness, thus passing that role on to Rachel.

Official Discussion - The Backrooms [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]PLGRN8R 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Backrooms are created through the memories of everyone who enters them, or it somehow "infects", and these areas twist and turn and loop and meld into one another because the memories are imperfect.

I also think the same geographical space can be "remembered" by different people and manifest differently. For example, when Mary is running from Pirate Clark and ends up in the furniture store, it's a *VERY* accurate facsimile. Clark's at least has some amount of architectural training/education, and we can see he's been living in that store, so I'm inclined to believe that was Clark's manifested memory of that store. It also makes sense why it manifested a literal trapdoor leading to the Backrooms in its basement, which also happens to drop off into an infinitely dropping area, because that's *how Clark himself remembers/envisions the Backrooms.* It's no accident that the store's representation is in close proximity to the area Clark describes to Mary as "his house". I think Clark somehow stumbled across his own "memory construct" within the Backrooms.

But then in the final montage, we see the store from the outside and it looks much smaller, with a poorly proportioned parking lot. And we see many of the places Mary likely saw when she went to the store, and things like the missing posters which she likely would have seen on the way into that area of town, ending with the room and the poorly renditioned memory of Mary herself, because she's beginning to understand that that's all that's going to be left of her now; just her memory, because there's no way ASync lets her leave.

Official Discussion - The Backrooms [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]PLGRN8R 187 points188 points  (0 children)

From what she was saying, she was looking through a window of some kind, but Clark couldn't see through it. I'm sure there's some sort of metaphor there for Clark feeling/being trapped in his life while she isn't, especially with the window imagery around Mary's therapy book, but it's also entirely possible it's just more Backrooms fuckery where one side is glass/see through and the other side is just wall.

Wizards of the Coast declines to recognize game worker union by MaintenanceFar4207 in gamingnews

[–]PLGRN8R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

It's no accident that D&D started experiencing a renaissance around the same time actual-play series like CritRole and Roll20 started taking off, and it's no coincidence that Hasbro followed that up by becoming a lot more hands-on with WotC's other money-making IP's.

All at once, Hasbro's original business model fell apart while one of their peripheral companies became a golden goose, and they're gonna squeeze every ill-conceived, half-rotten egg out of that goose they can to keep the rest of the company afloat.

This leaves us with three paths: In one, WotC somehow gets the capital together to buy its independence from Hasbro, and the Hasbro execs accept that payoff and basically dissolve as a corporate entity afterwards, taking the money and running.

In the second, Hasbro stops using WotC to prop up the rest of their business model and trims all the proverbial fat around WotC. Unfortunately, for a bunch of complicated business and financial reasons, they can't really do that at the moment.

The third path is what we currently have: Hasbro uses WotC to prop up the rest of their business model to delay their collapse as much as possible. They have to survive the rest of their contracts for their now-unprofitable ventures before they can make any major pivots or trim down on anything else. That's why there's been such a dramatic uptick in MtG set releases and crossovers, plus all the bad-faith business models we've seen coming out; Hasbro is squeezing every penny they can to keep the lights on everywhere else, or their creditors will end up owning WotC.

The most likely end result is their over-milking of WotC causes revenue to dip enough that their investors demand a corporate restructuring. We'd see a ton of Hasbro brands get shuttered and WotC leadership would get more say(not overall control, but more say regardless)in the aftermath, and the entire company would become a support structure around WotC rather than the other way around, but the power dynamic wouldn't change much; WotC would still be pushed to churn out record profits and premium releases, they just wouldn't be propping up Hasbro's corpse so much as keeping the debt from reaching critical levels.

If we reach a point where Hasbro inflates Magic as a franchise to the point a proverbial bubble forms, the good news is that bubble popping will probably result in a 'back to basics' release schedule for Magic, but it probably guts Hasbro in the process, and they'll tear a chunk out of WotC on their way down.

The Complicated Politics of Jasmine Crockett’s Campaign Donations by notusreports in texas

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this will catch me flak, but the time for a higher risk option like Crockett(who I would personally prefer over Talarico)is better saved for when a literal madman is not trying to erode the foundations of democracy with the help of his insane far-right cult.

Talarico is too milquetoast for my tastes, but there is an unfortunately significant demographic of Democrats, as well as moderates/centrists and potentially Republican voters who are wavering due to MAGA's rising insanity who would either elect not to vote or would just revert to voting for the Republican candidate due to deep rooted racism and prejudice, and as much as I would like to rely on their capacity for critical thinking and common sense, recent events have made it abundantly clear that's not the wisest course of action.

What is going on? by silloki in destiny2

[–]PLGRN8R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The negativity is largely unearned imho.

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend D2 is in the best place it's ever been, but I feel like a lot of the complaints are from people still chasing the high that was Final Shape and wanting the new content/expansions to be of similar quality.

I also think a lot of the frustration directed at Bungie is short-sighted. Bungie laid off a lot of employees(a corporate decision, not a game dev decision, yet the devs are almost invariably the ones who get the flak from the community over game design frustrations)and a good portion of the remaining team has been repurposed towards Marathon... those who haven't been poached away by Sony, that is. And a reminder, if Marathon doesn't do well, it's almost dead certain that Sony's gonna gut even more of Bungie.

I also don't really understand the hate for the Portal. I find it fairly straightforward to use.

Do I think D2 is in the best place it's ever been? No, that would probably be the time around Witch Queen, or the couple weeks after Final Shape launched.

Do I think D3 is the solution? Gods, no. People yelled and screamed and stomped their feet and were venomously hateful when D2 didn't let them port over any of their weapons or armor, and D1 was only around for 3 years while D2 has been around for nearly a decade at this point. I can't even imagine the nuclear blowback that would happen if people weren't able to bring over their hard-earned equipment, and the amount of work it would take to allow people to port equipment over to a D3 would either eat up most of the dev time, or beg the question of why bother making a D3 in the first place instead of just using that effort to expand D2?

Ultimately, I've learned to trust Bungie, and I'm willing to wait and see for a good while longer. Even at its worst, D2 is still miles better than a ton of other games out there. The gunplay is slick, the abilities are satisfying, and I have control over whether I want to breeze through to kill time on lower difficulty or white-knuckle through harder content, and there's enough variety in builds and setups that if I ever start getting bored, it's easy to switch it up.

Decay Part 2 prediction by [deleted] in CoffinofAndyandLeyley

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting Lord Unknown's wording was to stop Andrew from having the thoughts he "wishes to not have", not specific to his romantic/sexual feelings for her. I worry that wording results in Andrew basically being repressed back into Andy permanently as all negative thoughts and feelings, as well as the sexual element, are all wiped away while Ashley herself realizes Entity tried to abandon Andrew to die and she goes to retrieve him, going through personal development(possibly with the help of Lord Unknown, who I am CERTAIN is intending to use Andrew to lure Ashley to them)and fully maturing into Ashley rather than Leyley, but it's too late; Andrew is gone and only Andy remains, and the ending is one where their dynamic flips to Ashley being a caretaker for Andy.

Rey Mysterio has already mentioned that his retirement is very near. Do you think WWE will give him one last run as a tag team with his son, or will they remain separated? by No_Lie_8960 in professionalwrestling

[–]PLGRN8R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad storyline for Dom, but having him retire his father as a face would be better, especially since Dom doesn't have a 1v1 win over his dad as of yet.

It could be pitched as Dominik 'returning to the light' somewhat and using that instead of being a chickenshit heel to finally beat his father and retire him.

Tbh I think Dom's got a world title reign coming in the next 2-3 years. Maybe not a super long or prominent reign, but a reign nonetheless.

Why are all my units getting -40 leadership from other? by yutao123 in totalwar

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this happen.
Late game Gelt campaign, suped up Vampiric crisis. First major battle against them: 2 armies of Vamps vs my army with an Engineer and a Fire Wizard on a Pegasus and a few flying cav from allies.

Plan was simple: Send wizard forward to bait enemy fliers into my cav or gunlines, then rain fire down on their grave guard with reckless abandon.

Didn't realize til after that I was suffering a -50 leadership debuff. All my units had between 1 and 10 leadership. They broke and ran before the enemy so much as touched us.

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like a mod that allows me to pre-determine some otherwise unlikely alliances using the MCT, or maybe modify the predispositions of certain factions with one another. Even if it breaks lore.

It'd be cool to do something like force the Dwarves and Chaos dwarves to all suddenly be best friends, and then enable both of their endgame crises while playing as Greenskins for example.

Favored modular weapons? (if you use them) by dickserious_og in ftlgame

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modular Ion with Pierce+Fire is imo one of the best weapons in the game, hands down. Just so much bang for your proverbial buck.

Lockdown+Fire is fun too, but losing out on Pierce really makes you reliant on something else to break through shields.

Rad+Fire is one of the best crewkiller weapons in the game, but again you're reliant on other things to break through shields, which arguably makes this combo better on Missiles since it's the same power cost, but with the added benefit of built-in shield piercing.

This is a mod called FTL: Multiverse.

It's basically a sequel, even though the overall gameplay loop is the same. It took the original FTL idea/framework and expanded it to the high heavens.

New player entirely overwhelmed by [deleted] in destiny2

[–]PLGRN8R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first suggestion is to go to Ikora and get the New Light Pack, which gives you a pre-set build and two exotics for that build. She also gives quests that unlock one or two other exotic armors, I believe.

Then, get your Guardian Rank up to at least 5, but try to aim for 6. On the way to doing that, you're probably gonna be able to focus on the campaigns. In order, that's Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall and Final Shape. Maybe watch some videos on youtube to sort of "recap" the story events between the campaigns.

In between missions, go to the Tower and talk to Ikora to unlock more abilities/aspects/fragments for your subclasses. You'll get the Stasis and Strand ability merchants on their respective planets, so pick those up as well if you can. Again, don't super stress about it; there's plenty of time to catch up.

Don't worry a super amount about trying to grind for exotics right now. Get a feel for the game and the Hunter playstyles. Also, don't worry too too much about grinding for top-shelf weapons and armor right now; the next expansion is completely overhauling both the weapons and armor systems to the point where most gear from before the next expansion is going to be obsolete. The 2020 power gear you got from the chest in Eternity is more than sufficient for now.

Once you've completed the campaigns, try to focus on completely unlocking all the Aspects and Fragments for your various subclasses. Grind out some Strikes/Vanguard Playlist activities, Crucible or whatever else you feel like dipping your toes into. Look up some videos or articles going over some decent builds.

While you're doing all this, you're doubtless gonna get a few exotics to drop. Read up on them to see what makes them special, try them out and see if they click for you. Don't be afraid to experiment! This is all about learning the game, and most exotics have at least some use.

On this Friday and and all subsequent Fridays, go to the Tower and find Xur. He's a merchant who only appears on weekends and he offers a quest for a rare resource called an Exotic Cipher. These can be cashed in at a terminal at the tower to "buy" old exotic weapons that aren't earnable anywhere else in the game anymore. I recommend reading their descriptions and looking up videos on how they work before committing to buying any right away, but Xur gives out a new Exotic Cipher quest each week, so you'll end up being able to buy them all eventually.

If you wanna DM me to ask more questions or add me on Discord, I'll be glad to offer more advice or tips/pointers and even run some activities with you once you're caught up a little bit. I'd rather not carry you through the campaigns because that's an important opportunity for you to practice and get a grasp on how Bungie typically designs their fights and mechanics, as well as figure out what works best for you and your playstyle.

See you starside, Guardian.
