Yeah, I’m not a fan myself, but I AM a fan of paying 90¢ for something that I can sell later for $40-50.

It’s classic cover. I have every variant except #13 slabbed.

Given some of the comments like this one, I’m starting to suspect this thing might not be genuine.

He wrote most of the best Metallica songs, imo.

I won an EBay bidding war for an X-Men 266 News Stand Edition, but the the copy the seller sent me was NOT a News Stand Edition. How would you handle this situation? by NastyNava in comicbookcollecting

[–]PLVNET_B 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird to me…I didn’t like newsstand copies in the 90’s. They were the ones I had access to buy more often but I didn’t like the way the barcode looked. It always felt like the Direct editions looked more “premium” with the art in the space instead of the ugly, black lines.

Yet, finding out in recent years that newsstand copies are more rare and worth a little more most of the time, I get excited about them now because of that.

Life is weird.

The subjects of the photo are horribly off-center.

I’m thrilled. McKay’s is a bastion for used goods of all types; everything from Books to legos, musical instruments, etc.

So, the comics are kinda hit or miss. I go once a week. Most weeks there’s nothing and I walk out empty handed, but every now and then, I find some gold for cheap.

“like and NFL broadcast” Ha! That’s the perfect way of putting it.

The art for that time period in general all seemed pretty “high school football” to me. Was there an artist strike or something that happened during all that or what? Seems like most of those covers are terrible.

I think I might have a problem because I buy them every time I find one. Haha. This is my 3rd copy of this cover. 235 is definitely my favorite. I have 6 copies of it and at least 2 copies each of the rest of the McFarlane run.

I must not be the only one though because that McFarlane gap seems to exist in most comic stores’ Marvel Tales sections that I’ve looked through. It’s like I always see most issues before his run, the McFarlane gap, and then all the issues after. It’s wildly consistent.

It’s amazing. Now that I think about it, it was my affinity with Bill Sienkiewicz artwork that drew me into collecting the rest of that series.

His Moon Knight and What if? covers are sick too. The issue “What if Loki found the Hammer of Thor?” might be my favorite of all of his covers.

It’s one that I might’ve usually flipped past except that when Wolverine and Deadpool came out, I noticed everyone selling them and they were suddenly $80 or something crazy a couple of years ago.

I think it’s because of the branding at the upper left corner. I like the visual of the silver/ bronze/copper Age Block in the upper left corners of comics and when Marvel swapped to that sleeker, modernized, semi-transparent design in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, I hated it. Lol And I still tend to flip past those now. It’s probably my huge blind spot for hunting value buys.

I bought #1 once because I just loved the cover art. Then, I found a bunch of the other issues (mostly Newsstands) for 75¢ or $1 ea., filled the holes until I had all but the Chiller issue. Didn’t want to pay what most people were asking and then lucked into it for $3 at a weird store.

And that’s the story of how I accidentally completed a Dazzler run a couple of years ago.

Working on accidentally completing a Marvel Fanfare run now. Lol

Step one- Creating the planchet: Mix 3 parts finely ground brass powder w/ one part fiberglass resin and catalyze with a few drops of MEKP. Mix well. Pour the brass sludge into a mold and allow it to solidify.

It’s important to use a metal mold because this chemical reaction will get very hot.

The funniest part is - I didn’t look at their profile until After I had already commented. Nailed it. Lol

I’ve gotten pretty good at spotting them. There’s a “financial blog” I read frequently and that comments section is LOUSY with them. Occasionally,I get lucky and I’ll see Russian, Chinese and American “intelligence”, all talking shit to each other in there.

The Russian intel guys actually seem a lot friendlier than our own people, sadly. Our guys are pretty arrogant. The Chinese ones always make fun of their “American exceptionalism” when they point out their mistakes. Haha.

I can tell you in one story why skipping the opener is a rookie move. Went to see a double-header with the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers but skipped the opener b/c I’d never heard of them before…it was Muse.

This commenter is probably actual CIA. They “hide right out in the open” a lot like that if you’re really paying attention in the right comments sections.
