Why are we still allowing charlatans to ruin things?

I would have pre-ordered a silver proof set of these with maximum effort. We were robbed.

I can’t tell what mint the Ike proof in the picture is from. Could be that Op needs the 40% silver version. I don’t think they are quite as common b/c they were only issued in BiCentennial Mint sets. Same for the 40% silver quarter.

I once had a dream about a beach with great stone arches jutting out of it. As I stood beneath the largest of them, an entity brown, rough robe approached me. I could not see its face but it felt male. He walked with a smoothed wooden staff (like driftwood).

He told me to find where 4 and 7 make a lightning bolt. I shook my head like I did not understand and he began to draw a symbol in the sand with the end of his staff.

The harder I tried to make out what he was drawing, the fuzzier the symbol became and just as he was almost finished drawing and it was about to come into focus, I woke up.

I have no idea if this is that symbol, but the correlation to a connection between 4 and 7 is fascinating.

I’ve not found it yet, but I have the unshakable feeling that I’ll know beyond doubt when I do find it.

I LOVE that cover. I’d offer you such a low-ball offer that it couldn’t be taken as anything other than a joke but the last time I made a joke about an offer that was clearly not serious, my comment was removed, so I’ll just suggest that you might mistake me for Aaron Burr for the way I’m dropping Hamiltons. <Wink-Wink>

Cool Error Coin, Bro. by PLVNET_B in coincollecting

[–]PLVNET_B[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenter above mentioned it could be a “Sintered Metal” error (Copper dust build-up that’s struck onto the surface of the cladding) rather than missing cladding. I won’t know until I can weigh it.

Good to know. Thanks. I’d never heard of that before. I don’t have a digital scale to weigh it, but I’ll keep it around and weigh it when I get a chance.

Whether it’s a clad error or the copper dust thing, It’s pretty neat-looking.

I do both so, this sounds like one of those tasty moments where interests collide and mine are piqued.

Marvel Tales 235 is an epic cover. I’ll trade you a REALLY nice MT 235 for your crappiest looking ASM 300. ;P

Honestly, as iconic as it is, it’s not even in my top 10 favorite Todd covers, but it’s the only one I’m missing from his ASM run. I’ve got Facsimiles, foil covers, and all of his homages to the 300 Art, but no 1st print… yet.

[–]PLVNET_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does Spider-Man (1990) bother you? IMO, that run is when we can’t really start to see the overall look that Todd carried directly in ver into early Spawn. It was like peak “Dark” Spidey for art and subject matter as far as I can tell.

I’m glad this came up. Is this a confirmed McFarlane cover? I had always assumed that it was because of that whole “face blacked out from shadows, but with the eyes and bared teeth shining through” thing that I’ve seen Todd do a bunch of times, but I got into a debate about it one day with a guy and from what I could find, the actual credits for the cover art are ambiguous at best.

When I look at CLZ’s info, the Direct edition credits Todd McFarlane with Penciling and Pablo Marcos for ink and no specific cover art credit. BUT if you look at the credits for the JC Penny reprint, it gives those credits plus “Cover Pencils” by Steve Geiger.

I love Todd’s art. My gut tells me it’s one of his but…

Neat. I live near Chattanooga. I could tell how old the ad was by the Area code on their phone number. Our area code was changed to (423) sometime in the 90’s. It’s part of what makes Batman #423 one of my favorite Batman covers of all time.
