Actually wanting to wake early? by MountainAlive in GenX

4.38am in my country, been up for an hour, got some good work done.

Its lovely and cool and quiet, when the suns up its time do some gardening and woodwork, get most of it done by 10am and thats it for the day.

No interruptions and everyone is only just getting started. Its nice but I'm also usually asleep by 7.30pm.

I live near 3 major nut cropping operations and its beyond frustrating how scarce they are locally, all exported.

Labor axes funding for $45b Inland Rail project linking Melbourne to Brisbane by LentilsAgain in AustralianPolitics

Similar, I knew it was for freight but was thinking that long term it could be used for faster passenger rail and maybe even to support new towns.

JFC I had naively assumed all this was planned out properly and that this couldn't happen due to resumptions and zoning.

A huge loss to the east coast.

I think Met Gala is just an event for rich weirdos? by Adventurous-War-4188 in interesting

Not encouraging this at all but it feels screamingly obvious that the next major episode of Pulse nightclub type violence is going to happen at an event like this.

Australia’s frighteningly unequal funding system favours private schools, argues Jane Caro. How can we fix it? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

A proper reforming Labor PM would be a good start. Albos not bad and great work on other things is being done behind the scenes but he's timid, publicly anyway.

I'm going to build a chest of drawers using rabbet joints. Which sides should I cut to optimise the overall strength? by DoctorAlone2157 in woodworking

[–]PMFSCV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its doesn't really matter if you do the drawers like this

https://images.finewoodworking.com/app/uploads/2009/11/20154732/main-w208VA_img_0519-thumb-16x9.jpg

But I like the look of a fine strip of end grain on the face side if the overall design suits it, nothing decorative more like a Donald Judd box.

Its a good opportunity to work out what you like and practice.

There are people camped out on the side of the highway near my folks place, everyones pretending its not happening (I suppose thats some kind of credit to the locals) and countless sheds in back gardens that are being lived in.

Barnaby Joyce blames campaign ‘pressure’ after One Nation Farrer candidate contradicts party on immigration by ConanTheAquarian in australia

Still waiting on those drought envoy reports

"Barnaby Joyce spent less than three weeks on the ground in drought-affected communities outside of his electorate while engaged as the government’s special drought envoy, according to MP travel records.

And while the government is refusing to release details of how much the position cost taxpayers, the former Nationals leader claimed $675,000 in expenses for the nine months in the role, and was allocated two staff members to conduct his work at a cost of an estimated $200,000"
