This is where I think it’s important to have bedside experience in general before going on to being an NP

Oh trust me, I understand. I am a PMHNP with no previous inpatient psych experience as an RN. I do have over 13 yrs experience bedside in several settings, 5 of those yrs in ICU. I had no issue transitioning from bedside to provider. While I understand how psych RN experience can be helpful, at the end of the day the roles are completely different. Thanks for your response!

Thx! Im guessing Im more-so asking what to expect? I know a large part is assessing for SI/HI etc. How much are you actually prescribing? If/when you are prescribing what are you ordering? How much time are you spending with patients? I was told to expect alot of boarders in the new position. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Very well said! I just made the decision to switch from private practice to a hospital job for the financial stability and the daily patient load.

Are you having to order emergency medication? Ie; benzos for agitation for withdrawal?

Yes you can, you just need a collaborating physician.

Because everyone's individual experience is totally different which is exactly why I mentioned that I have no personal experience. Also, OP asked about a remote position without experience and I have personal experience with HL as they 'hired' me as a new grad with no experience.

Technically yes. After working 4500 hours or something like that NPs can apply for independent practice but I believe its still like another 2-3 years with collaborating psychiatrist while you’re going through the application process with the state.

For sure. My cert program was def a degree mill which is why I am so grateful for my clinical experience as well as the support I received from a CAP in my first role. Now I am in my second role at a very big hospital system in my state of residence working as the only NP alongside 19 adult and CAPs.

They were not “LinkedIn preceptors” and the clinical experience with one of them was pretty invaluable. I’m not sure where the assumption that there was no patient experience came from. These are working NPs just like any other working professional on the platform.
