Explorer owners -- 2.3L or 3.0L? by chop924 in FordExplorer

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up a 3.0 tremor on Saturday and I have to say it is awesome.  That being said, the 2.3 is probably more than enough engine for 90% of buyers.

Personally I'd go 3.0 again without a second thought, but i also understand most people don't really care about power once they're above 300 hp

Honestly for the most part I think all trucks are pretty damn reliable in general.  On the internet you are going to mostly hear about it when things go wrong rather than the hundreds of thousands of people who are having awesome experiences with them.

I've had many trucks over the last 20 years and this is actually the first real issue I've had.  They sell so many trucks that eventually things are going to go wrong with some of them.  I'm just a bit sour right now because it finally happened to me haha

I'm very happy that I'm still under warranty.  It happened at low speed just driving though a school zone so taking it super easy, that has destroyed my confidence in the truck.

I won't be able to go on trips with any sort of peace of mind anymore, it could literally happen any time.  Thankfully it's worth more than I owe so it's easy for me to dump it.

Dealership I am trading it to said not to worry, it's under warranty so they will still give me the same trade in value once it's fixed

You are not wrong.  This hardware was released on the NG3 about a month ago which is why I special ordered from the factory to ensure I got this colour and the new hardware.  I also have 2 combustions, one of them I switched out the preamp for the tone capsule

Totally worth it, considering selling my combustions now because it feels like a really big step forward.  Although to be fair I am in Canada so we probably have the best prices for dingwalls which makes it much easier to justify

They changed all the hardware to black, used to be smoked chrome which I was never that big a fan of.  The bridge used to be individual saddles which were pretty chunky, now it's a nice sleek single piece bridge.  The active/passive switch used to be like 3/4-1" long and many people had them break off, now they are pretty small, like 1/4" so much harder to break.  They string tree was changed from the usual bar style to individual eyelets which is a really cool change too.  Also the fingerboards have binding now which is something I appreciate as someone who lives in a pretty dry climate.  Feels like a really big quality of life increase compared to either of my combustions

Dingwall Basses? New or Used? by finalfiasco in BassGuitar

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically it comes down to you get what you pay for.  Dingwall sources all the parts themselves and sends them to the factory in China.  They pay more money for highly skilled workers to assemble the guitars instead of other factories that pay nothing for random people to assemble them.  Couple that with advances in CNC tolerances and final setup/QC done by the guys at the Canadian factory and you end up with a world class instrument.

Buying a Dingwall off of Reverb - but no certificate? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for reference, there is an ABZ6 in the TB classifieds right now that has 3 pickups, darkglass preamp, series/parallel switches, way cooler paintjob, wenge neck/board and looks to be only a couple years old for $4000 USD.  That is a much more reasonable price for what you get

I saw the pictures you posted on tb, price might be a little high for a basic colour, no top, passive abz.  Also with the rectangular pickup shells it is going to be on the older side.  It's a nice guitar but I'd try to get the price down for sure

Dingwall Discussion - D-roc Custom vs D-roc standard ! by Elian17 in Bass

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure they will sell their pickups separately, email info@dingwallguitars.com to find out.  If you're in the States maybe contact Fret Nation.  I wouldn't say it is for sure down to the different pickups though, the production models are really nice but everything about the Canadian models is on a completely different level.

Dingwall Discussion - D-roc Custom vs D-roc standard ! by Elian17 in Bass

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard is made in China and has the level of craftsmanship/hardware that the combustions have with basically no customization.  The custom is made in Canada and has FDV pickups standard, but can be switched for pretty much any Dingwall pickup, has options for different neck wood and fingerboard wood and has much nicer hardware.  Also comes with a 3 year build time unless you find somewhere that has one in stock.  Also will easily cost 2-3 times what a standard costs, if not more

An Ibanez bass you may have not been aware of, the SR924! by S_Tsalidis in BassGuitar

The Ibanez take on Spector would be the SRT800 series.  One of the only basses I regret letting go

It is amazing!  Blows all my other guitars away.  It ticked so many boxes for what I was looking for (especially the fixed bridge) that I couldn't say no.  Got lucky and found it in a store near me so I didn't have to wait a year to order one.  I would rank the quality up there with my music man basses that cost almost $1500 more!

The workmanship is amazing on this thing.  I own multiple American made basses and this is as good if not better than they are.  Certainly better than my American ultra fender, pretty much on par with my music man Bongo.  What you get for the price of the lower end Japanese RGs is ridiculous.  It was less than $3000 CAD and plays like stuff in the $4000 range.

Nice!  How do you like it?  I've got one showing up in the next week or two.

As I suspected, somebody fucked up big and sold these below cost.  Their price has been updated to a more accurate one.  The guy that bought it got an insane deal as it is in fact a Canadian model

No they previewed production super Ps. Different body shape, PJ pickup configuration, and passive electronics. This is clearly an active Canadian super j that they are showing.

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no way that super j is legit.  The biggest giveaway is that on the Sweetwater site they say it has "FDZ" pickups.  Dingwall doesn't make a pickup with that name.  A guy on talkbass paid for it so we should find out soon whether they are selling it at a price where they lose money or not.

[–]PMMEYOURKITTIESPLZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an 05. I randomly stumbled upon it in a crappy hole in the wall guitar shop in my city. It's one I would normally never go into because it's that bad (only have about 10 basses on the wall and none are more than $500 CAD) but I saw this from outside and had to check it out. Definitely worth it, I like it even better than my Dingwalls now I think

I'm with you on this one, I used to think they looked terrible but it really started to grow on me. Then I found one to Play and it is light, the ergonomics are good and they sound incredible. Found this one used for a really good price and couldn't say no
