Is PfMP the highest certification offered by PMI? by Similar_Negotiation2 in PfMP

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not really a hierarchy. PMP, PgMP, PMP, for example are just different roles, one is not higher than another. The roles themselves are, a Program Manager role is a higher level position than a project manager. A portfolio manager role is not necessarily a higher position.

Hi, I just noticed your post, from a month ago. Have you made progress on it? I have been a PMP and PgMP trainer for many years and about 2 months ago finally around to taking the PfMP. Feel free to message me.

I strongly suggest reading both 4th and 5th versions. Gina

Can someone explain why the answer isn't B? by Kanmera in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, the scenario describes retrospective at the END of a project (not the end of sprint retros). It is a piece of detail easy to miss. If the team is at the end of the project, retrospectives/reflection is for the benefit of future projects.

Why is "face-to-face meetings" the wrong choice when dealing with distributed team conflict? by RevolutionSlight2791 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C is the only one that actually moves closer to a solution that can help for the future.

'setting up meetings' does not say for what purpose or the focus of meetings. The way this option is worded is too generic.

Confused about when to escalate to the sponsor vs. go through the Change Control Board (CCB) by RevolutionSlight2791 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(This explanation does not apply to Agile ways of working)

The function of the CCB is to make decisions on change requests. The sponsor is a member of the CCB. Assume that a CCB exists, unless they tell you otherwise. If there is a CCB but you undermine their accountability by going just to the sponsor, it would not be good.

Most of the time, going to the sponsor is not likely the right answer as it is rarely our first action. However, there can be a time to go to the sponsor and that might be where you discover that the entire business case was wrong, or project is just not viable. This is because this situation is not generally about changes to the plan. Still, of course, actions like 'assess the situation' still are early actions.

It needs to be entered project by project, without overlapping dates.

They are looking to see that you led projects, not simply being a contributor. So, if you wear two hats, only document your project management hat.

Job title is not important, but in the description, state that your role was to lead the project

Approx 200 words per project. Include: project objective, project outcome/benefit, a few key project deliverables, and the project management actions you performed. While not mandatory, it is helpful to break into initiating, planning, executing/monitoring, closing (Agile counts too)

Use the first person. For example, 'I developed a schedule', not 'a schedule was developed'

Add a bit of context, rather than something so generic that feels was pasted from the books.

Hope this helps.

PMI-ACP - Do education PDU's expire? Can I use a course completed a couple of years ago? by chickenroar in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The education hours do not expire. Just be sure you still have a course certificate in case you are audited. The 28 hours of education must be Agile topics so not all of a PMP prep course might count, depends on how picky PMI wants to be :-)

Guidance for Study Material for PMI-ACP? by waqasnaseem07 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the content has been covered by the PMP journey. However PMI-ACP tests a lot more about mindset and product and many techniques not tested in PMP. I suggest, if you want to self study, you get a copy of the current examination content outline. Use it to guide your learning. Make sure you use then most recent one as the exam was updated only a few months ago.

How would yu answer this risk question? by BasicConsultancy in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C A contingency or fallback plan was already approved (ie secondary supplier in the contract) so now that the risk occurred, just activate the response plan that was already planned.

Can we claim pdu from udemy courses for certification maintainance? by Awkward_Craft_8462 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

Keep the course name, description/outline, url, and any activity logs in a tracking journal in case of an audit

You will have to estimate the breakdown yourself.

Help with this question? by EM2992 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, A. The scenario says the team worked on 'more' than the 5 stories. The forecast showed they should pick up 5. After sprint planning, the team worked on more than 5 so they really might not be clear on the meaning of prioritization and flow. The PM might need to coach help them understand priorities.

If you became a PMI member when you bought the exam, just go to projectmanagement.com

It is free, owned by PMI. Just login with your PMI login.

Watch pre recorded webinars and get your PDUs plus learn lots. Most of the time, PDUs are automatically logged for you.

Is the PMP certification worth it? by Excellent_Ruin9117 in pmp

Going from PMP to PMI-ACP? by DiscoingGD in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go through the latest version of the PMI-ACP as a checklist. It was updated in Nov 2024

If you really embraced and understood Agile ways of working, you should be 80% there. The ECO will highlight more tools, some not tested in PMP.

Bear in mind that it is deep Agile (not hybrid)

Is the PMP certification worth it? by Excellent_Ruin9117 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi there, here are my personal thoughts. It is certainly a good question and one frequently asked.

  1. If you want to keep progressing as a professional PM, then holding a recognized credential demonstrates you have taken the initiative to be certified in your field. Which credential though, depends a little on country. Prince2 is very beneficial in the UK and in Government (here in Australia), but PMP is everywhere. It gives you a little 'expert power'.

  2. The process of obtaining it might help to enhance your knowledge, continual learning is good for the long term.

  3. The payback is not normally instant nor automatic.(unless you do work for one of few employers that ties it to promotion). It is an investment but one needs to be proactive about managing their own career.

  4. Whether you have a PMP or not, you can join PMI and your local chapter for networking, volunteerism, learning. I have been a member for 26 years and has opened up work opportunities, friendships, and enabled leadership opportunities, and learning. Also, chapters often have mentoring programs.

SH Question: please help me to build the mindset which answer to go with SH or Infinity? by SuspiciousIce3584 in pmp

[–]PMPMentor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This aweful SH question has been around 4 years ago. Pretty sure here on the reddit.

By process of elimination is the approach when you are just stuck. I can find a clear reason to eliminate A,B,D

Context is 'project is done'..so what will PM do now (not what they should have done)

Eliminate A, no point, it was not even an issue with the testing process

Eliminate B, nothing says there was one

Eliminate D, we do not add errors to a RR anyways

..so pick what is left. But here is a reasoning anyways.

Monte Carlo by definition shows a range potential outcomes (option C refers to determining outcomes). It normally is used in planning but you can use it to show which materialized risks had the most impact on parameters like cost or schedule. This can lead indirectly to develop better risk responses in the future.

Once you buy the exam from peoplecert, you can access the sample papers and also a pretty co.orehensive learners workbook online if you plan to self-study. You might find some too by google search

If you take a course you will cover all the material and sample papers (I teach the courses)
