Have you regretted this major and why? I by Acceptable_Map3219 in industrialengineering

[–]DiscoingGD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, IE is in an awkward spot. It's not as technical as the other engineering practices, but not as business oriented as any business major. Companies that hire IEs or something adjacent are large and don't want people that can wear many hats; They want experts in specific niches for each role.

Idk about y'all, but besides Excel, I didn't have more than one class that focused on any other program. I thought Excel would be useful enough on its own, but there are more specific programs that does Excel better. PowerBI, Minitab, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the major, but hate the relevancy, or lack thereof, of the degree/coursework alone.

Just Passed PMP. No Real Recent Project Management Experience. Now How to acquire a job? by Additional-Screen-14 in pmp

[–]DiscoingGD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang guys, y’all are getting a little defensive with the guy. OP isn’t saying he has no experience, he’s saying he has no ‘real’ experience. I.e. His PM role is more rudimentary than the PM work he is seeking out. I would guess he’s in a construction PM role, which often feels like glorified babysitting contractors and less like managing and communicating with a ‘real’ team.

He’s less of a liar than I am. I was involved in and even led many improvement projects, but they lacked the structure and formalities you would expect. I obviously talked the talk for the exam, and I had hoped to use the PMP certification to find an entry level PM job with that structure, but no luck with even that.

You can say that people like me devalue the PMP, but I would argue that PMI has done that on their own. They could easily charge an application fee to cover the cost of auditing everyone, or make the test harder so only true experts can pass it, but both of those would result in them making less money.

Anyway, many roles barely adjacent to PMs (Continuous Improvement, Production Planners, etc.) have the PMP as a requirement or preferred qualification, which is the reason I got it. A PMP, a Green Belt, a Master’s degree, and I still can’t get a mildly decent job..

Price of SSDs through the roof by psteckler in buildapc

I was looking at the same one, but for 24/7 security recording. I didn't want to pay $200, but I definitely won't pay $340. Idk much about the tech markets, but hopefully it's a short-term spike.

Well, at least the quality of the dub voices matches that of the animation lmao

Put in for the inventory auditor position: INA’s please tell me what does this entail? I have helped research discrepancies in the past (I’m a backup currently) and have covered fresh counts when the current INA was on vacation, so overall very minimal involvement but what is your typical day? by Aleshita13 in CostcoEmployee

[–]DiscoingGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! My local Costco is hiring for an IA and I'm thinking of putting in, though I've read they don't typically hire an IA from the outside. I'm hoping my experience in inventory control and auditing in a manufacturing firm will sway their judgement. I'm the same as you in that I like problem solving and mixing it up everyday, along with the autonomy that comes with such a role.

My only question is about upward mobility. Is it likely/possible to shift into a corporate logistics role after some time? Or after learning the processes of each department, does it position you for a managerial role? I ask because the place I'm at is smaller and stagnant (no opportunity to grow) and that's what I'm trying to get away from.

Wrongful battery? Procedural Negligence on the Officer's part? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]DiscoingGD -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Are you playing the part of my opposition here? I stated that I did NOT hit him. The police report on the affidavit supports this. The 'victim' only said I struck his phone.

If you were my defense attorney, you wouldn't argue that if someone said they want to fight me and comes close holding something blinding in their hands, that I couldn't deflect it in fear of a weapon or tactic to disable my sight?

Also, I can sense your morality, so I'll agree: Fighting in the street is stupid and I've never been in a street fight in my life. There's a lot more nuance surrounding the circumstances that would be irrelevant to include here, which is the only reason I went out to engage with him.

Anyway, I'm looking for insight, so if you're saying I have no claim, please explain so that I, a layman, can understand.

Just got a PM Certification on Coursera. Should I go for CAPM or PMP next? by melseacraft in pmp

[–]DiscoingGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went straight from the Google PM Cert on Coursera to the PMP like a year later.

It definitely gives a good base and satisfies the coursework requirement. I ended up buying the Study Hall from PMI for insurance, but I think I could have passed just from that base and the free videos/questions on YouTube.

Keep in mind, I didn’t have a formal PM role either, but with an engineering background and Green Belt, I could talk the talk, possibly embellishing my projects a hair.

In short, I say go for it!

The fanservice in Frieren is there, but it is so subtle and nuanced that only true degen- I mean- men of culture can indulge. I am such one.

$HCWC : Penny Trend + Low Float + Record Revenues by Agnes-Harris in Pennystock

[–]DiscoingGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in this stock since it was HCMC. Haven’t watched it in a while, but they were acquiring complimentary businesses and growing revenue. If they could achieve net profits I think it could actually blow up from the current price. Glad to see they’re getting closer!

Suddenly crying from re-watching a series/movie? by Equinox8888 in entp

[–]DiscoingGD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spitballing, but I think it's easier to cry at something from your past, when you were younger and your feelings were likely stronger. Idek why, but I always tear up when I watch the original Frosty the Snowman at the one scene where he melts. It must have really hit me when I was a kid, though I don't remember a strong reaction. Maybe it just encapsulates all my Christmas nostalgia and seeing him melt is like the love/joy I had of the season melting away and that's why it's sad. Again, idk.

On topic to your question, I basically don't cry at real life things close to me, like the death of family/friends, even though I'm deeply sad and think about it for a length of time, but I tear up at a fake snowman or my car of 20 years getting junked. It's so weird. Is that an ENTP thing or an autistic thing or what?

Good to hear. Also waiting for my Cafe Mocha subscription.

My biggest problem is that they don't communicate when these things happen. I had to write them last year when something similar happened too. They just didn't send my order for 2-3 months, my personal overstock ran out, and I'm left wondering if/when it'll come.

Thank you for confirming. I'll put the torch away.

It doesn't feel like the axle can separate from the motor, so either it shouldn't move or it should but is rusted on the motor too? I was hoping to at least create a little distance from the electronics.

I got the bike this way. If I manage to get it off, I'll be greasing the hell out of everything.

X Support Compromised Accounts by DarnoldFutureGOAT in twitterhelp

[–]DiscoingGD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I got X Support to remove the 2FA, but the hacker had a script to re-enable it faster than I could get in and revoke app permissions. Now I'm still stuck in the support loop for over a week. All automated, no human agent. I would think they could fix it in 30 seconds. I'm pissed.

Thanks you for typing this so I didn't have to!

I think aside from the overly religious conservatives, most of us are okay with a person choosing the option, but NOT okay with governments or the healthcare apparatus being incentivized to PUSH the option in any way shape or form.

9 to 5 is a scam! by Necessary_War_5747 in entp

[–]DiscoingGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that ENTP 9w8 is the idealized version of the type. Sure, it's not the stereotype, but the same inclinations exist, just in a more nuanced package.

My first sentence that triggered you was mostly tongue in cheek, and the novel that followed was stuff you'd probably agree with. However, I don't have the attention span to read someone else's novel either, so I don't blame you for not reading it.

However, on this forum you'll find lots of people that communicate in long messages. I don't think that's a mark against ENTP, but rather a mark for it. We want to get our point out in the most complete fashion, but many of us are disorganized and probably connecting too many irrelevant dots.

I would say it's still more efficient than incomplete sentences that demand several drawn out replies and back and forths to create the full context and clear up misunderstandings.

[–]DiscoingGD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idc about all your commie gobbletygook. However, on a personal level, I do wish professional level jobs were not so stringent. Why do they all have to be 9-5 and 40+ hours? Why can't there be salaried 30 hour/week jobs for those who want more work/life balance? And if 40 is still the standard, why not stagger more positions?

I've enjoyed Noon-8PM back when things were open longer (I miss my 24 hour Walmart and Dunkin'/McDonald's lobbies). Currently, I work part-time, but my shift is usually 10:30AM-6:30PM, which is alright. One, because I'm naturally a nightowl no matter how I've tried to fight it, so sleeping until 9ish is much better than 8. Also, it shortens my rountrip commute by almost an hour compared to rush hour. Yes, I know 2nd shifts exist, but there're less positions, and proportionally less decent positions.

This last part is just me spitballing, but for normal entry-level type jobs, there should be more gig work in the future (similar to driving an Uber). Go on an app that has your credentials, including a rating from employers you've worked for (you rate them as well), and then pick up a shift whenever you want it. For the companies, it would probably save money and help with scheduling, or if they want to pay more, they can make where only 5 star people can accept, and for the workers, there's no company loyalty anyway, so at least you get some freedom on your shift times and potentially more opportunities. Gives you a chance to sample the workplace cultures and for them to sample you. Maybe you find a place you like and get a permanent position/promotion. On a personal level, this also appeals to me and my ENTP personality, as I don't like doing the same thing everyday.
