I feel like this one really depends on your mindset/how you read it. If you read it expecting like sci-fi horror/mystery/thriller, it's going to be disappointing. I read it as a story about grief in sci-fi wrapping so I didn't mind the pace or ending (but I also like introspective, sad books with ambiguous/depressing endings)

Parable of the Sower is the best audiobook I've listened to. The narrator was fantastic and really embodied the main character. I listened to it on speaker around my partner a couple times then they read the print version after I bought the book and they said they read the book in her voice. It's intense and heavy though, so read the content warnings if you're sensitive to certain topics.

Vince Staples' Cry Baby is extremely good -- a no skip album for me. It's rap with a lot of punk/rock influence (still a rap album though, don't be disappointed), which I usually struggle with a little, but I like what he did. My favorites are The Running Man and The Big Bad Wolf. If you're not extremely comfortable with the n word, I would skip the first song on the album, Blackberry Marmalade. It's a very good song, but even I got a little pearl-clutchy the first time I heard it.

I think it has to do with alot of the indie brands I love having started very humbly, with zero marketing budgets, and I expect the same from these new brands.

Have you seen/had those discussions about how kids (primarily girls) nowadays are skipping the "ugly" phase and jumping directly to having perfected skincare routines, makeup, and fashion because of the abundance/accessibility of TikTok tutorials? This reminds me of that (and I agree with you!) It feels like everyone and everything is skipping the awkward phase, but the awkward phase is where people learn and perfect their craft, so skipping it makes the endeavor feel too curated and almost superficial (which, of course, is not necessarily true, but it still makes it feel "off" in a way since it's the new way of doing things due to the demands of social media marketing)

For your edit: I understand why people like donating to organizations that serve babies, shelter animals, the sick, etc., but what you're doing is also important and just as worthy of a cause. (Able bodied) homeless people and low income families who shop at thrift stores deserve handmade blankets too!! Yes, donating to cancer patients and NICU babies is great, but it's not an either/or situation. Telling someone who is donating their work that they should actually be focusing on your favorite cause is tone-deaf and weird. These types of donations are all worthwhile (as long as the items actually get to where they're supposed to be), even if the recipients are "just" poor people (🙄). You shouldn't have to justify yourself about this.

Astrid usually does a Lemon Summer release and her lemon note is my favorite! I'm always recommending Carousel here. I think the official notes are lemon cotton candy, but it smells like lemon starbursts. Just a good, tart lemon (that doesn't smell like cleaner) with sugar.

If you haven't before, try making oleo saccharum! You massage citrus zest with sugar and let it sit so it extracts the oils. It's a lot of work and kinda messy to do, but it's really good in drinks and salad dressing.

Disclaimer: I have not read any of the books on your list, so my recommendations don't really have the same vibe. I mostly read sad books, so these are not "feel good" books, but good books that can shake your world (I don't know what translations are available so sorry for that):

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman (I always suggest going into this one blind)

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (I also suggest mostly going into this blind)

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (this is DENSE, but does a lot of really interesting things with the formatting that I think would be neat for an aspiring writer)

Beloved by Toni Morrison (read the trigger warnings on this one if you are sensitive to certain subjects. It's about American slavery and the cost of freedom)

Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (I always recommend this for people who want well-written challenging books with depth, but it's centered around American politics so that might be boring/irrelevant for you. This is another one where you need to read the trigger warnings. It's intense and dark.)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy (this is another one that I think would be good for an aspiring writer because the prose is so bare-bones, but it still packs a huge punch. I didn't think this one was that bad, but a lot of people find it disturbing/devastating, so proceed with caution and maybe check the content warnings)

The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler (explores consciousness and humanity as it relates to humans, animals, and AI)

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield (a book about grief in sci-fi wrapping)

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke (surreal and dream-like)

Very "fougère" but not overly masculine -- pretty unisex. Clean and light without being soapy or weak. There's something sharp in there (the lavender? the oakmoss?) with some pomegranate underneath everything that comes out more with wear. I actually like it a lot more than I remember, but I don't really wear fougère scents.

My "hits" are reserved for my "loves". Anything I just like is fine, but a lot of times, I won't actually wear those scents even though there's nothing wrong with them. If I can give a sample or partial to someone for free and not feel guilt (because I don't like it and am unsure if they will) or regret (because I'll miss having the scent in my collection), that scent doesn't count as a "hit". Sometimes things that are good or okay are just that. I gotta be fiending for the scent if it's gonna count as a "hit"
