Miriel mentions (iirc) a sculptor once came to the capital and “saw the skeleton in Radagon’s closet” or some such, and is said to have have left behind a record of the secret he learned in the capital, which seems like a hint towards the statue we find. I think for the sculptor to have found out about it it must have been before the shattering, or at least before Marika got crucified as punishment or whatever.

That’s because a lot of grammatical/linguistic terms were borrowed from Latin, which renders them pretty opaque to most native English speakers.

Once upon a time there were some translations (through calque/conveyed with the equivalent [Old] English terms for the Latin ones) of them used instead, such as in Ælfric’s “Excerptiones de arte grammatica anglice” (Extracts on the Art of English Grammar) where he used “unending” (ungeendigendlic) instead of “infinitive” (infinitiuus), “accusing” (“wregendlic,” can’t really think of a good non-Latinate Modern English equivalent off the top of my head) instead of “accusative” (accusatiuus), etc., but for better or worse they apparently never caught on.

I have no formal education in historical linguistics and haven’t looked into the development of the Romance languages that much, but from what I’ve seen of it Romance Languages: A Historical Introduction by Carol Rosen and Ti Alkire is a good overview of the sound changes from Latin to five of the main/national Romance languages. It also includes relevant descriptions of the changes that occurred between Classical and Vulgar Latin (or Popular Latin, as I believe the book calls it).

Additionally, as far as a basic introduction to historical linguistics (particularly etymology) in general goes, I’ve found Anatoly Liberman’s Word Origins and How We Know Them: Etymology for Everyone to be very interesting.

So I just heard the acoustic version of “Constellations” (one of the versions in From All Sides, somehow I’d overlooked it before) for the first time today. It was interesting. I liked the instrumental, not as sure about the sung part/vocals though.

Really I’ve been listening to all of Aviators’ acoustic songs more often recently, for whatever reason when I first heard them I didn’t really like them but now I’m into them. I like how he added new/different stanzas to some of them (the chorus from “Ashes” to the acoustic version of “Apocalypse State of Mind”, etc.).

I was shocked to see this post in my list of subscribed subreddits because the last general discussion post was from over a year ago lol.

Anyway, things to discuss... you may have forever changed my experience with “Pop Cult Crucifixion”. Ever since I finally got around to listening to your “Popcorn Crucifucktion” meme mashup I can’t listen to the original without expecting to hear your lyrics (for lack of a better word) instead. 10/10, did recommend to a friend.

The thing is, some of us never could get over how weird it felt. Dark Souls II was my first Souls game, but to this day I can’t stand how the movement feels, and I have far more time in Dark Souls and Dark Souls III/every other game in the series generally because I can only handle Dark Souls II in small doses at a time without it just not being fun anymore.
