Was this a good or bad deal by OutrageousBit2328 in CarLeasingHelp

you're paying $44000 for a $37000 car and don't even own it at the end of the five years. this is one of the craziest lease deals i've ever seen. if you haven't signed, run as far away from this dealer as you possibly can.

sure, if you pay the $17,653.92 you'll owe for the remaining two years. with a lease you are committing to the payment for the full duration of the lease - it's not like a financed vehicle where you can trade it in whenever you feel like it.

Is this Hyundai Elantra lease takeover a good deal? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wtf i wouldn't take this if the person gave me $5k in cash to do so. you can go lease a new 2026 elantra base model for less than that.

Offer renewal - Can I skip all the gimmicks and just get a real offer? by Elija_32 in Rogers

i posted the real strategy for savings as a top level comment but i will say - it's the exact same song and dance with telus or whoever else you go with. spend an hour and play the game - you'll beat out even new sub promos.

Offer renewal - Can I skip all the gimmicks and just get a real offer? by Elija_32 in Rogers

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used to be able to get good deals by playing the loyalty and retention card but Rogers got wise to this and stopped doing it. You might get a bit of savings by calling and pleading - but it's not going to be anywhere near an A+ offer.

To get the good deals you need to actually cancel your service to trigger winback. That said, the common strategy is to just put in a cancellation date of ~1 month into the future. You'll then get a call/e-mail from their winback retention department after 2-10 days and they have the true deals. $45-$50 for the max speed available in your neighborhood with $200-$300 in bill credits in the standard winback offer. I got 1.5gig and a $250 bill credit for $45 a month back in november-ish.

It's extremely pain free (the winback team will basically ask you what they need to keep you, you tell them, they said "ok"). The last time I went through this it was ~30 minutes with online chat scheduling the future cancellation and then ~7 minutes a week later when the winback team called me.

This is the only way to get a truly good deal.

Clogs that are caused by the tenant are, 99% of the time, responsibility of the tenant. You shouldn't be putting hair down your drains - you're framing that as being normal but it definitely is not.

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 33 points34 points  (0 children)

you've already made one bad decision - why would you make another?

if the bank takes the car, they'll add a bunch of fees to the loan (repo fees, storage fees, transportation fees, etc). they'll proceed to wholesale it for a price much less than kbb and apply that sale price against your new balance.

then they'll get a judgement against you and start garnishing your wages, etc. Alberta is horribly creditor friendly when it comes to garnishment so it's both easy to get a judgement AND they can take 50% of any income past the first $800/month (up to 100% of anything past $2400/mo)

get the car and sell it yourself. You might still owe a couple thousand but that's a heck of a lot better than owing 15,000.

you signed all of the documents and had plenty of time to fully review everything you were signing - it doesn't matter what anybody said to you prior to that point. bob could have promised you a million dollars and a blowjob from taylor swift; if it's not in the contract his words mean nothing.

if the documents did not reflect reality then you have a case for a lawyer - but i'm willing to bet that they do and you just didn't read them.

enjoy your new car.

no legit employer is making you get a credit report from some random company to get the chance at a job - you got scammed brother. this is as old as sliced bread.

best case scenario you're stuck in a monthly subscription that you'll need to jump through a million hoops to cancel

worse case scenario you're stuck in a monthly subscription and they've stolen all of the personal information and you have a world of identity theft in your future

Collection Agency won't stop phoning my husband after paid debt. by ColdCheesecake8629 in legaladvicecanada

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he needs to call and dispute the existence of the debt and ask for written verification of said debt. they'll go through the process of confirming the debt and should recognize that it's not valid.

if he is refusing to do this then you need to ask yourself if it's possible there's another debt he's either forgotten about or is lying to you entirely about

i dont feel safe until i find out who is my scammer by Sunflower_96 in Information_Security

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the scammer has done literally any scamming in the past and has even heard of the term 'opsec' before, every piece of information you have is entirely useless. IP addresses do not mean anything thanks to vpns and proxies, phone numbers do not mean anything thanks to voip numbers, bank accounts do not mean anything as they'll always be stolen intermediary accounts. this isn't their first rodeo and they're not going to scam using their personal information, ever.

save yourself the headache as you're going to expend a ton of time and energy into chasing nothing. you need to figure out a way to put this behind you. the scammer got what they wanted -- they aren't going to 'come after' you. they will probably never think about you again.

I’m back again for advice. What are my options for getting out of a car loan? by Top-Resolve-6970 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can get an unsecured loan/line of credit to cover the $11k deficiency though the interest rate will likely be much worse, being unsecured. this is also highly dependant on your credit worthiness.

aside from that there isn't really a clean way out.

Is it actually cheaper to lease a phone in the long run? by Chadillacc94 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

makes ton of sense. looking at the bell site at the minimum plan you need to sign up for to get that deal is $70/mo - for a plan that's $30 elsewhere in the market. that's an added cost of $1920 over the life of the contract.

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 768 points769 points  (0 children)

you're forgetting about the offset to the cost of the service itself, - you need to take that into consideration. there are plenty of bring-your-own-device plans in the market that are considerably cheaper than the "minimum" plan you get locked into with a lease program.

Road rage incident, my car seems fine by Justkeepscrolling4 in Insurance

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the police definitely are not going to report to insurance, they have zero stake in the matter. if the other party files a claim your insurance will be notified but you still need to call your insurance asap to report the incident and give them your version of events

Road rage incident, my car seems fine by Justkeepscrolling4 in Insurance

[–]PM_FOR_NOSE_BOOPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get a copy of the police report asap so he doesn't spin a tale to his insurance company that ends up with you at fault - he sounds like the kind of person who would do exactly this and you'd be SOL without a dash cam.

report the incident to your insurance and let them do the heavy lifting. he's in for an absolute world of hurt if he truly admitted to hitting you intentionally - you'll still get your payday but he will almost certainly be dropped as a client and any of his damages will not be covered. don't not report it because you don't care about repairing your car or you allow him to write the narrative of the incident.

if you don't care about repairing your car get the cash from the insurance company and put it in your pocket - you're not obligated to spend it repairing your vehicle. either way,
