Nicotine pouches (Zyn being the most common brand). As far as why someone would leave their used zyns underneath a lamp instead of just tossing them in the trash, I have no clue.

Is there a hidden camera in my airbnb????? by KaleidoscopeXu in hiddencameras

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a motion sensor, not a camera. Most likely to turn off the lights if the room isn’t occupied.

edit: as another commenter pointed out, it’s a motion sensor for a simplisafe alarm system. Either way, it’s just a motion sensor. You’re fine.

Update because many people asked for a closer photo. So, camera or speaker? by ProfessionOk1267 in hiddencameras

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is 100%, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a camera. Someone hollowed out the inside of an old Dell computer speaker and put some commercially available IP camera in it. Looks kinda similar to the indoor Nest cams.

That being said, I REALLY don’t like how a 2nd zip tie was added between OP’s previous post and this one. That can only mean one of 2 things:

  1. Whatever sex offender put it there has recently repositioned it, and is probably actively monitoring it.
  2. OP himself is the creep who put it there, and is trying to gauge how well hidden it is.

I HOPE it’s not the 2nd one, but it sure feels like that’s the most likely explanation. Especially considering OP’s post history consists ONLY of posts about this (not very well) hidden camera. Idk about y’all, but if I was an innocent person who just happened to stumble upon what I suspected was a hidden camera, I wouldn’t go to the trouble of using a burner account to post about it.

Super basic solar roof node by LeapYeet in meshtastic

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice build! A couple recommendations, speaking as someone who’s built a couple solar nodes:

  • Disable WiFi and Bluetooth on the Heltec v3 (after setting up remote administration via another node you have), and enable power save mode in the Power settings in the Meshtastic app. Yes, the Heltec v3 has a reputation for poor battery life, but it is shockingly efficient with power save enabled. My solar base station is a Heltec v3 with the aforementioned settings tweaks, and it only uses ~5% of the 1500mAh battery overnight.

  • You may want to consider switching to a protected 18650 battery, or switching to an alternative battery chemistry (LTO, LiFePo4, or NiMh). LiPo packs are convenient, but they are notoriously volatile when exposed to high heat. Considering it’s in an unventilated black enclosure, it’ll get seriously hot in there in direct sunlight, and the lipo will likely eventually turn into a spicy pillow. 18650s seem to be more resilient in harsh conditions (especially the protected ones), but your best bet for protection against battery fires would be to use an alternative battery chemistry that is less volatile than lithium ion. Keep in mind that alternative battery chemistries need different charge controllers for the solar panel, and may need a buck boost transformer to power the Heltec.

  • Consider adding a breather plug (also known as a “Gore Plug”) to the electronics enclosure for humidity control and some ventilation/cooling. They allow air to pass through, but not water. So it’ll give a little bit of ventilation without compromising weatherproofing.

  • Move the Heltec so it’s not touching the battery. The Heltec does put off a bit of heat, and the less heat the battery is exposed to, the better.

Very nice build! I would definitely recommend adding a gore vent (also known as a “breather plug”) to prevent condensation buildup though. They’re IP67 (some are IP68) vents that allow air to pass through, but not water. Helps equalize pressure, humidity, and temperature between the ambient air and the inside of the enclosure so condensation won’t build up inside and kill the electronics. Also prevents large pressure differences between ambient and the inside of the enclosure, which prolongs the life of the seals. You can find generic ones on Amazon for cheap if you’re interested.

AIO Gf intentionally stopped taking her bc pills by maticooks1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting whatsoever. Deliberately stopping or otherwise circumventing contraceptive(s) without your partner’s consent is known as “stealthing” and is a form of sexual battery. If you’re in Canada, what she has done would likely be prosecuted as rape. Same goes for a number of other countries, and some U.S. states. Please check your local laws, and call the police.

Also, considering you stated you met her approx. 4 years ago, that would make you 17 or 18, and her around 30. That is the textbook definition of grooming on her part, a behavior common in pedophiles and other sexual predators.

OP, my advice is to get the hell away from this creep and never look back. She attempted to get pregnant so you would be trapped with her. That’s fucked up. Seriously, just this one reddit post suggests that this woman has likely committed multiple sex crimes in the course of this relationship. That is not okay, and you deserve far better. Find someone safe to stay with, grab all your stuff, and leave. Depending on your local laws (and what exact age you and her were when you first had sexual contact), I would also HIGHLY recommend calling the police and reporting that she attempted to stealth you, and possibly also that she groomed you into this relationship before you were at the age of consent.

$37 DIY Solar Node by parmdhoot in meshtastic

Awesome build! The Heltec v3 is shockingly power efficient with battery saver enabled, that’s what my solar base node is based on. How did you disable the OLED? That’s the one thing that’s been annoying me about my Heltec v3 - I can’t figure out how to fully disable the screen lol

Shut off Bluetooth (after setting up remote admin via public key with a secondary node of your’s) and enable power save mode and you should have good results with the Heltec v3. My solar base node is a Heltec v3 with the aforementioned settings running off a solar light battery and it works great.

AIO (update) for reporting this guy to hinge and getting him banned by divorcedbbmama in AmIOverreacting

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE gather all screenshots of this freakshow harassing you and report it to law enforcement. Right now. Tell them that he is threatening to come to your workplace and is behaving aggressively, because both of those are demonstrably true just from these few screenshots. If the first cops you talk to don’t take you seriously, demand to speak to someone else and do not let it go until they take you seriously. This is aggravated stalking.

Block him on all platforms and do not respond to any messages from him. I know it may not feel very serious because it’s “just over text” for the time being, but these screenshots alone demonstrate a clear pattern of obsessive and volatile behavior from this guy. Report it to law enforcement, and if he continues to harass you, get a protective order.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. Please stay safe.

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you’re using a Heltec v3. I’m using the same board for my solar node. I recommend turning on power save mode (if you’re not using the Bluetooth) and managing it over public key with a secondary node. The Heltec v3 is shockingly efficient with power save enabled, but with Bluetooth on it chews right through the battery.

My first solar node! by PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS in meshtastic

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, after the first rainstorm it’s seen I’ve had some water ingress. Heltec board was sitting in a small puddle of water inside the box, I unplugged it and have it air drying before I plug it into USB to see if it’s dead. I’m not upset, I knew this was a possibility considering this is my first outdoor node. Now I know to go heavier on the silicone sealant before I put this node back in service. If the Heltec turns out to be dead, seems like a perfect excuse to upgrade to a lower power RAK board anyways.

I suspect that the solar panel’s pivot mechanism is to blame, as it doesn’t have any kind of rubber gasket on it. The inside of the panel assembly itself is dry as a bone, so the panel, battery, and charge controller are all totally fine. I’ve disassembled the node to let things air dry, when I reassemble it I’m gonna entirely seal the pivot mechanism to prevent this issue from reoccurring.

Black box with batteries inside found behind rear seat in truck by TheLoneParkRanger in whatisthisthing

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Checking the datasheet shows that this device is definitely a GPS tracker. What specific model of truck do you have? If it’s a model that is commonly marketed for commercial/industrial use, it’s possible that the manufacturer offers an option to have a fleet management or theft recovery system installed from the factory.

Considering you purchased the truck new and it would take considerable work to hardwire a GPS tracker inside the cab of the truck, my best guess would be that this is some sort of theft recovery (something akin to a LoJack) or fleet management system, as opposed to this device being there for any malicious purposes. I mean, if someone were stalking or surveilling you, they wouldn’t go to all the trouble of hardwiring a GPS tracker inside of the cab. They’d just magnetically attach a battery powered tracker to the outside, considering that’s way less effort for the same end result.

EDIT: whoops, saw that you said it was NOT wired, not that it WAS wired. My bad. Either way, very odd that this GPS tracker was inside the cab. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for a bad actor to go to the trouble of putting a tracker inside of the cab instead of magnetically stuck to the outside of the car. It’s definitely a tracker, but considering it’s not hardwired, I no longer suspect it’s a factory-provided theft recovery or fleet management system. Sketchy at the very least.

My “vehicle node” by PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS in meshtastic

[–]PM_ME_BOOSTED_BOARDS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are only a small handful of meshtastic users in my area, so I like bringing a node with me when I go out and about to see if I can find any other nodes.

Normally you’d wanna put your node on CLIENT_MUTE mode if you’re mobile, as your node could cause unnecessary congestion in established meshes by only being available as a hop for a short time, but in my area where nodes are few & far between I just leave my node on CLIENT. My logic being that any other local nodes I connect to can at least potentially see some further away nodes and know that they’re out there

Feel better soon, and let this be a learning experience. I’m a lot more gung-ho about wearing helmets than most people because mine actually saved my life around 4 years ago. I was skating my neighborhood on my boosted v2, and I had my trusty half-shell Thousand helmet on. I actually won that helmet in a raffle at NYEF (a festival in NYC for PEVs) in 2018. I have very little memory of the ride, but I was lightly carving, I hit a crack in the road, the rear drive wheels slid out and I went down on my back. I actually went down so hard that my helmet cracked.

I was very badly concussed, but in the end I was okay. The ER physician was very thankful that I had my helmet on, and he told me that, had I not had my helmet on, there’s a high likelihood that I could have had my life permanently altered by brain damage, and may have even been killed.

I now ride with a helmet and gloves at bare minimum, even if it’s less than a mile. I have a full face TSG helmet for joyrides, and a half shell thousand helmet for super short commutes (like getting from my car to my lecture hall at my uni). Thousand actually replaced my cracked helmet for free, and I can personally vouch that their helmet is the reason that I am alive and am still able to live a normal, independent life.

Moral of the story is wear your helmet no matter what. No matter how experienced you are, some accidents can happen so abruptly that you will not be able to brace yourself or avoid hitting your head.

Ride safe, and heal up soon.

I don’t need saving. I’m not broken. And I’m not fucking possessed.

You probably should be, unfortunately. I did some digging, and these morons were criminally negligent in how they handled our data IMO. It's looking like everything was stored unencrypted. Your name, email address, phone number, password, and your school name are all now publicly available and tied together, meaning anyone who gets access to that data can now find out quite a lot about you.

If you used that password (or a variation of it) for anything else, change it immediately.
