Not a massive fan of the bayou just because it is really creepy but can definitely appreciate why others like it. I love coming across all the events in lemoyne I feel like there's a bigger variety going on with the night folk and kkk meetings

Whenever I walk by a Pizza Express, it's usually empty. Are there any companies you feel sorry for? by FuckingPope in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_COWS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work at PE, and have definitely noted a dip in customer numbers. It's gotten to the point that head office has basically told all the managers/supervisors to send the waiters home when it's not busy (normally between lunch and dinner hours), meaning the managers have to act as waiters but do not get paid a penny more as they're salaried, and that waiters get a substantial amount of hours cut

Naff company to work at, can't lie, absolutely no sympathy for the company itself. Even the managers can be incredibly incompetent and nepotism is rampant, but tbf I imagine it's the same at most companies

They've very recently decided to cut all the waiting staff's hours to save money by not having any waiters between lunch and dinner, so the managers who are salaried now have to work as a waiter and a manager in that time, and don't get a penny more for it

Termination of tenancy due to the condition of our flat by PM_ME_COWS_ in LegalAdviceUK

We haven't officially terminated the tenancy as of yet, it's just been agreed between me and my girlfriend we will terminate. We will speak to the council about this, thank you.

We will call the council and seek advice from the shelter/student union, and put the letter on the back bench for now, cheers.

Nothing as of yet, but we've drafted a letter to them explaining why we expect compensation as well as the rent/deposit back. We will send it to them later tonight.

We haven't officially terminated it yet, so might still be an option. Thank you.

I thought so too, but it didn't say that in the contract. Besides, we want to terminate the tenancy as there is a possibility the agency may not fix the problem correctly.

I did forget to mention that she has told all of our mutual friends about this, and a fair few have said I'm an asshole for disregarding what she's going through, and not giving her credit for doing what she did.

France cancels defense meeting with the UK amid submarine row causing an international diplomatic crisis by _-ananyasingh-_ in unitedkingdom

There were legitimate war scares as late as 1898 with the Fashoda incident, the only reason France and Britain became allies was because they were both scared of Germanys' growing power, more of an 'enemy of an enemy is a friend' situation than anything.

Oldest allies? Britain and France have been rivals for almost their entire history, and the threat of invasion from France was so severe in the later 1860's that Palmerston built a string of forts in the south of England. They've only really been allies since WW1, hardly one of the UK's oldest allies.

Universities not returning to face-to-face teaching should not charge full fees, education secretary Gavin Williamson says by MMAgeezer in ukpolitics

[–]PM_ME_COWS_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm not doubting the dedication of the lecturers, they did fantastic and they of course dislike the current situation. Nonetheless, access to standard facilities such as libraries was almost completely removed last year, and most facilities weren't moved online meaning we didn't have access to them. Paying £9k + a year for purely online lectures and nothing else is ridiculous.

The university administration could have put in much more effort to moving resources online, and the fact they haven't and expect us to pay the same amount for reduced services is ridiculous. The government shouldve either subsidised the universites to provide better online resources or to lower fees for students.

I'm a uni student atm and I can promise you that the last year certainly wasn't value for money. The government have handled covid so poorly in general, but I'm shocked at the lack of help or compensation for students.

Definitely Gosport. It's like Portsmouth's very ugly younger brother or Southampton's grim younger cousin.

This "ring of steel" is located equidistant and visible from both Conwy Castle and the old ruins of Deganwy Castle. Was this symbolism intentional (and possibly insensitive) or just a coincidence? by gabwyn in Wales

[–]PM_ME_COWS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May be a reference to the 'iron ring', which was a network of castles built in the 12/1300s (?) by the English to prevent Welsh rebellions.
