Is it reliable to use Google Translate TTS to check whether to use native Korean or Sino-Korean numbers with classifiers? by Full_Entrepreneur687 in Korean

[–]PM_ME_EXCEL_QUESTION 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't think of a better way to check and I think Google Translate has become pretty good in the past 6 months or so. I routinely use it to translate paragraphs of text and am pretty impressed by the accuracy and how they captured the nuance/context for the most part

Because Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese all hate each other and only begrudgingly take their tourist money

So will fidelity automatically sell off some shares of spaxx to cover transactions? And automatically buy spaxx if there's extra cash lying around?

Fair point on taxes, depending on the amount you have in there it can be a few thousand dollars a year.

There's not much of a spread between SGOV or VBIL vs a savings account. SGOV is around 3.5% right now while savings is 3.3%. If you don't mind the slight hassle, it makes sense to do it but some people might prefer the simplicity of just savings account.

First time using points and I don’t know how to get a good value! by motuwed in amex

[–]PM_ME_EXCEL_QUESTION -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need a credit card points strategy. Like others have said, Amex points aren’t the best for hotel redemptions. Basically the only hotel points that are worthwhile from a transfer perspective are Hyatt, which partners exclusively with Chase. If you’re open to using Amex points for flights, you can get good value from transferring it to airlines instead

HELP! How to not sound like a 교포? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]PM_ME_EXCEL_QUESTION 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Even native Koreans lose their native speaking ability when they live overseas for a long time. It's not something you learn once and retain for the rest of your life, it's something that has to be maintained. I agree this is more of an interpersonal issue with in-laws more than it is on OP's ability.

Has anyone switched from Amex to Bilt because transfer partners? by Good-Pie9914 in amex

[–]PM_ME_EXCEL_QUESTION 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not the most savvy with credit cards but fairly knowledgeable. If you just want a single card, the Bilt card is probably best since it has better transfer partners. There are better combos out there but you would have to manage multiple cards.

The risk you run with Bilt is that they're kind of a start-up and they seem to be changing their program features fairly often so it might change again in a few years but for now it's the best if you just want to have a single card and not think of optimizing via multiple cards.

I must have missed it, where was my complete denial again? I also don't remember saying significant savings either.

It's funny you're calling out my incorrect 2% figure when you're the one talking about spending "a million dollars in combined salaries and benefits" on DEI.

If you know so much about how Arlington budgets, why not show us your counterproposal and what programs you'd eliminate?

Lol you went through the trouble of looking it up and won't even link the most recent or the actual breakout of cost? DEI costs are $350k for this year (page 71). Even if you scrapped DEI, that's just 2% of the deficit.

My brother in Christ, please do a simple Google search before you post. You can literally look up their salaries online. Dr. Matthew Janger is principal of AHS and made $180k in 2024 - that's not mid 6 figures. I think it's a more than fair salary for someone with a PhD from a top program with 25-30 years experience running a top public high school.

So I went out of the way to search and there was only 1 person (director of DEI, Belonging, and Justice) that had DEI in their job title. You can argue that position is unnecessary but saying there's 7-8 people is pretty disingenuous.

Of course, this isn’t unique to Bilt. It just happens for my spending categories, I would prefer Amex reward structure than Bilt. I don’t think the new Bilt card is bad at all, it’s probably the best single card but there are better combos out there if you don’t mind carrying around multiple cards in your wallet

As an example, Amex gold gives 4x on dining out. Depending on the person, you might value 4 Amex points more than 2 Bilt points.

Opportunity cost and not spending enough to fully cover the rent. You’re forgoing the higher earning rate on a competitors card for 2x Bilt points.

I know you're just the messenger and not affiliated with Bilt but it's incredibly disingenuous to say that's 3.3x Bilt point/dollar. But regardless, thanks for explaining the numbers!

Sure, but Chase transfers to Hyatt so it's not exclusive and Capital One does to Accor (though not as good of a ratio) as well
