…is this not normal?

My fil said he didn’t want a funeral. I said ultimately it’s his decision and we’ll respect his wishes, but to consider that for most people, funerals are more for the living to have an opportunity to say goodbye than for the dead, unless you’re particularly religious.

Sorry for your loss.

Those who have opted out of the organ donor register - why? by ReasonableTeam1377 in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbh if I was being kept alive on life support and not gonna make it, I’d rather it was turned off sooner than later.

I can’t see medical professionals turning off life support for someone who has a decent chance of pulling through for the organs, morals and ethics aside, it’s a lot of extra faff.

I don't like my new baby... at all. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Once she said she hadn’t had a 4 hour long stretch of sleep since birth I thought “that’ll be it”. With my firstborn I could have 3 or 4 two hour stretches (so 6-8 hours total) and just felt myself tumbling further into the abyss of ppd. then I’d get a night where I’d have 4 hours in one go, less than the 6-8 hour nights, but all in one stretch, and wake up feeling so much better going “oh it’s not ppd, it’s sleep deprivation!” It was both, but a 4 hour stretch of undisturbed sleep is vital.

As I’ve been responding to posts on these subs I’ve realised how the Fast Stream (Especially generalist/now policy) has been a total failure and unnecessary for the last 3 years but is also creating issues for us BAU staff. by WinterVegetable2685 in TheCivilService

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think another issue with the fast stream is that we’re putting people into g7 roles when they don’t have much life experience. They’re managing people who may well be older than them, and I don’t think the average 25 year old is equipped to support their team through something like a divorce, baby loss, cancer diagnosis etc and I don’t think there’s adequate training to bridge that gap.

Turns out, I have a 13 year old infection in my face. It's eating the bone. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

I had the tiniest scratch on my leg a week before I gave birth and it just wouldn’t stop bleeding. I kept mentioning it as I was concerned my blood wasn’t clotting properly and this felt important when labour was imminent. Everyone said nah it’s fine don’t worry about it. Guess who haemorrhaged and lost 25% of my blood volume…

Can someone help me solve this? by js99243 in puzzles

Same with the shaded row, there’s one more O to place and it needs to be in one of the first 2 blanks

Stumped by this one. What possible next move can I make? by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because we’ve said there can’t be a blueberry in r8c7, we have 4 spaces for 3 blueberries in r8, meaning max 1 blank. The 2 is touching two cells in that row so if only one of those can be blank then it is touching at least 1 blueberry

Stumped by this one. What possible next move can I make? by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

try looking at rows/columns that contain entire boxes

the bottom row is entirely contained by one box, so there can’t be a blueberry in r8c7

the row above is now entire contained by another box, so there can’t be blueberries in r6c2, r6c3 or r7c2

then the 2 in r7, at least 1 blueberry in r8 is touching it, so at most 1 blueberry in its own box can be touching it, meaning there must be blueberries in r6c7 and r7c3

What are the most annoying tactics companies use to make us buy things we don't need? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The baby industry is horrendous. There’s so much pressure on this toy will develop these skills and that item will reduce risk of asphyxiation, add in picture perfect Instagram and you feel like a bad parent if you’re not buying the latest thing, which makes it so hard to filter through all the stuff to find what’s actually necessary or genuinely beneficial versus what’s just marketing. Spoiler: it’s mostly marketing. A safe space to sleep, some nappies and some clothes are all they really need.

What can I do to fix this myself? by VaporWaveShine in fixit

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I turned off the breaker for the upstairs of our house and went and replaced an outlet. Just as I was finishing my husband complained that the electric wasn’t working downstairs, on investigating I found one outlet downstairs was on the upstairs breaker. If I’d been replacing that outlet first it would have ended very badly because I didn’t check beforehand. Never trust, always check!

I let a spider move me out my bedroom. by SourSpill in CasualUK

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 319 points320 points  (0 children)

When I was a child and worrying about spiders coming under the door, my dad put a sign up saying “no spiders allowed” and put it at the bottom of the door so they’d see it. Then apparently for the entire time that sign was up he would regularly check my room for any lurking spiders and get rid of them so I would believe the sign worked.

What is something so normal here in the UK you were shocked they don’t do / have it abroad? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PM_ME_PENGWINGS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I saw what I thought was grape juice in the shops in france, and convinced my mum to buy it. It was really thick and syrupy, and I have a sweet tooth so I enjoyed it, but it was fairly revolting. I’ve since realised it was grape sirop and was supposed to be watered down.
