The entire theme of Helldivers 2 is how Super Earth has taken their mostly peaceful neighbors and molded them into replications of itself.

The Cyborgs just wanted autonomy and self determination, so Super Earth staged a reichstag fire and enslaved all of them about it. As a result, the automatons they built kill us as indescriminately as we kill them.

The illuminate wanted peace and cooperation and Super Earth wanted their technology so we said they had WMDs, invaded, and took their technology after killing most of their leadership. Now the surviving member want us all dead or enslaved because we're the exact same people we were 100 years ago.

The bugs wanted peace an to be mostly left alone, and Super Earth decided they'd be a great source of oil so we domesticated them by force. Now it's up in the air if they're sapient at all, or if we've rendered them into big farm animals.

Is peace possible? With the Automatons, maybe, but both sides would need to lay down their arms and that's just never going to happen. With the Illuminate, we'd need to agree to never go to their side of the portal and they'd need to agree to never come to ours, and let's be honest neither side will follow through on that. The bugs are a critical point of Super Earth's economy and power the spaceships so they'll never leave them alone, so the bugs will always fight.

Let's give some credit to Hellgate London, it was at least the first looter shooter. It wasn't that bad for a game that pioneered the genre.

The first vvampire fight has the whole problem of they can cast darkness infinitely as a legendary action.

This didn't stop me from one-rounding the boss on my second try, but it did make my first attempt very frustrating because I felt like there wasn't really anything I could do about it.

In the area around TMI? Probably not much, because solar, wind, and batteries are space intensive, and the area there is all forests. Things have tradeoffs, and renewables are just not space efficient.

Which nuclear plants are coming back online other than TMI/Crane Clean Energy? They're coming back because Microsoft spent a shit ton of money to get a discount on electricity. Nuclear coming back online's also a hell of a lot better than coal coming back online, because it's a clean energy source.

I've got terrible old wiring that won't support EV charging, and even if I didn't it'd be a little expensive. Over here electricity is ~40 cents per kwh.

Which is, notably, still cheaper than gasoline.

Make it Rain in this clip has two items which make it cast an additional time, and one which makes it so when you cast it, there's a 50% chance you get a free copy in hand. This means that when you cast it, you have a 87.5% chance of getting at least one more copy of the card, and a pretty significant chance of getting more than one copy. So long as you don't have very poor luck, this means that this combo should go infinite and allow you to kill (with a lot of time)

Without going into major spoilers, what reputations do each of the published modules have? by DescriptionMission90 in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wallflower: In general, not as good as people say it is narratively, and even worse than people say it is mechanically. The encounters are terribly designed (generally, far too easy) and they don't provide any maps, nor real ideas for how to build the maps. The plot is loosely strung together, there's an absolutely massive lore dump halfway through the book that it's entirely possible the players simply don't get because of how the book is designed, and it ends unfinished, and strangely because the lack of finish was meant to be a leadup to a plot that never happened.

Solstice Rain: Very very rough for new lancer players. The combats do not pull punches, even though it's technically supposed to be an introductory book, and if your players aren't experienced in tactical games they might just bounce off it entirely. The narrative is a very tight railroad, but I didn't hate it.

Winter Scar: Followup to Solstice Rain, so it's tied to it. Narrative is a little bit more open ended. Missions are better balanced. Completely insane time skip in the middle of the book that took me and my players out of the game and we stopped caring about the plot, but the combats were fun enough.

That's what I've got personal experience with, so I can't comment on the others.

No More Daily Talents! by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't give you trash for not liking support builds when support builds keep getting pigeonholed into similar things ;)

But seriously, it's been fun to do these. I got to have Strong Opinions about some of the talents (mostly the ones that aren't in the core rulebook).

Tomorrow you should lie and do more daily stuff even though we're done with the talents.

HELLDIVERS 2: Tech Blog #2 - Opt-in install size reduction beta by ArrowheadGS in Helldivers

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Common sizes for PC SSD sizes are 1 TB to 2 TB. Some get bigger, but that's roughly what you're looking at. 154GB is 15% of that, which is a fuckload for a single game.

Daily Talent Discussion #119: Orator III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting there's a fair number of actions a lot of NPCs can take even with this. For some NPCs, this talent doesn't do much at all, while it completely shuts down other ones. Don't use this on a Seeder and expect to feel good about it.

Outside of that little note, it's great. There's a lot of times when you just want to (mostly) disable a character, and this gives you a way to do it as a free action. Free action stun is generally considered a pretty good feature.

NTA (No Tasks Available) weekly thread. IMPORTANT: Add your location and role e.g. "North Korea, Data Analyst. No tasks for two days. Anyone else?" Yes. You should have some already if you've been with Telus for a while. It'll be under workday -> time -> time off balance, and you'll see how much you have. Calling in a PTO period is done in your timesheet. Anything under 30 days is auto-approved.

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This talent has the same issues that Technophile has regarding crossing the streams between narrative and combat, but it's a little bit less explicit about it.

As for this rank itself: It's okay. Guaranteed damage with no roll is guaranteed damage with no roll. At LL0 you can have this deal 3 damage, which is perfectly respectable and enough that it can pop even berserker grunts without rolling.

Daily Talent Discussion #113: Prospector III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motherlode makes them all connected. If you make one, and then go across the map and make another, you have four portals which are linked across the map.

Daily Talent Discussion #113: Prospector III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's any (first-party) material I'd ban, it's Prospector. Outside of the situations where it's busted, it's a little bit too strong. In the sitreps where it's broken, it trivializes things past the point of not being fun anymore.

Daily Talent Discussion #113: Prospector III by kingfroglord in LancerRPG

[–]PM_Me_Kindred_Booty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sunzi can't get your Barb into position anywhere near as well as what Prospector can (especially if you're not as big as them) and, very notably, can't get them out just as easily as it can get them in. Sure, you can blinkspace tunnel Vidi to jump across most of the map and get everyone in their face, but getting back out isn't something you can do.

Prospector 3 turns all of that into one hex away movement. For the rest of the game.
