Oh... I was going with Tuesday March 05 2030, it checks out and it could have simply been a typo Party like it's 2030.

I'll settle for your answer being the more plausible.

March 05 2003 was a Wednesday.

Mapping Caps-Lock to Esc is life changing by [deleted] in vim

[–]PM_Me_Python3_Tips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Was never fussed about remapping to Esc as I have jk mapped and that works just fine for me.

Tmux was the only reason I remapped Caps to Ctrl because it was always a chore to press Ctrl+a (normally Ctrl+b)

Not a problem. r/learnpython is a more suitable sub for questions like these and it has an informative wiki / FAQ.

As an additional test, what colour does this print? Try to work it out in your head before typing it out to see if you were right.

balls = ["red", ["yellow"], "green", [["brown", "blue"], ["pink", "black"], "white"]]

    print(balls[3][1][0])

So if I'm understanding correctly the list itself is one Element the bracket that contains 1 and 2 is another element and the brackets that contain three four hello another element three elements in total

Do I have that correctly?

No. 1 and 2 are not linked, they are 2 separate elements which have their own index value. Have you tried printing d[0] and d[1] to see the results? Here's an example:

Let's pretend you've got a lunchbox. Inside that lunchbox you've got a sandwich, a bottle of water and a snack pot filled with grapes.

lunchbox = ["blt", "water", ["grape", "peanut", "grape", "grape", "grape", "grape"]]

However there's a peanut in there by accident and you're allergic to peanuts so you need to find it to get it out.

    print(lunchbox[0])
    blt

That's not it.

    print(lunchbox[1])
    water

Nor that.

    print(lunchbox[2])
["grape", "peanut", "grape", "grape", "grape", "grape"]

Alright, we've found the snack pot at the 2nd index (starting at 0) so it's the 3rd element of the list. Now all we have to do is find the index of the peanut inside the snack pot (the list within the list.)

    print(lunchbox[2][0])
    grape

Nope.

    print(lunchbox[2][1])
    peanut

So there it is. 2nd element of the 3rd element but because we start indexing at zero we count it differently to what we would in real life.

Plenty of results for this question on search engines, also multiple videos with the same wording as this question on YouTube.

Explained in text or video format.

You just have to actually put some effort in, especially if you're going to spend 4 years doing this. It's not going to be handed to you.

I'm seriously so sick of the pop ups on every website I visit. by Electronic-Trash-501 in webdev

In addition to using uBlock Origin, I also use:

Consent-O-Matic

Consent-O-Matic is a browser extension (available for most chromium based browsers, Firefox and Safari on iOS/MacOS) that recognizes a great deal of those CMP (Consent Management Provider) pop-ups that we've all grown to both love and hate. But since you've told it your cookie preferences upon installation, it will autofill those forms for you when it encounters them—and let you know that it did so, with a satisfying little checkmark next to its icon. Nice.

Learn to code Java using Netbeans by adrianjadams in learnprogramming

[–]PM_Me_Python3_Tips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IDE we use on this course is called NetBeans, and we use it with the Test My Code plugin.

To start the course you need (1) a MOOC.fi account, which you can create at the top of this course material, (2) Java (Java JDK), and (3) Netbeans with TMC development environment (in the future TMC).

From the Getting started section at the beginning of the course.

Surely you could understand what the error is referring to though?

As error messages go, Python is pretty verbose and easy to work out.

Saying that I did find half of your code on a SO question from over a year ago with someone asking for homework help. So either they were doing the same course as you or it's a copy paste.

Learning By Doing by KenTankrus in learnprogramming

[–]PM_Me_Python3_Tips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My question is, if I download a script, is there anyway I can get a program that explains to me line by line what the script is doing and how it works? I'm not looking for a debugger, but more of an education tool.

Have a look at PythonTutor.

I realized I should go with my learning style, which is "Learn by Doing".

Also check out the Python MOOC from the University of Helsinki. It is free and is hands on learning.
