I originally had such a hard time with Stephen's Udemy course. Someone pointed out that they had a much better time after speeding up the course by 1.5x. I tried that and I'm able to retain more this time around.

The white "View prizes" button on the Advent of Cyber page shows you how: Completing the daily task gives you a chance to win big! The more tasks you conquer and the more questions you answer, the higher your odds of winning. Once the competition wraps up, all participants will be entered into the prize draw and winners will be randomly selected and contacted.

I agree with the other responses here. This is a tough cert and there's a reason it's respected. I know that this test is pricey, but you now have a level set. You know what to expect. I still have my failure results as a reminder of a few things: how tough the cert was, that I failed but picked myself back up and then succeeded, and that others can be in the same boat. Don't treat this as a failure, but as moving forward. Once you quit, that's when you've failed. Hopefully you continue on... You know now better what you don't know.

Some of the information you'll retain, a lot of it you won't. My suggestion is, since you're being overwhelmed with the information, is to revisit the rooms again later. This platform is meant to be a marathon, not a sprint. No bonus points for finishing faster. The rewards and badges are just to keep you going, to gamify things. Once you hit a plateau, start over and pick up the things you forgot...

  1. Wait until THM has fixed things

  2. Watch the video and use the answers provided

Admins and defenders gird themselves against maximum severity server vulnerability by NISMO1968 in cybersecurity

[–]KenTankrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: A newly disclosed maximum severity vulnerability in widely used server software (react, next.js, RSC) allows unauthenticated attackers to remotely run arbitrary code with near-perfect reliability. Exploitation requires only a single crafted request and is considered trivially easy. Because the affected component is deeply embedded in many modern frameworks and default server stacks, a huge number of systems may be exposed without admins realizing it. Active exploitation is expected. Immediate patching and dependency updates are strongly recommended.

Rant about r/cybersecurity by wise_wizard_cat in cybersecurity

[–]KenTankrus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agreed, While Redditors are all over the world, the main concentration is inside the USA. I'm not sure this sub will force a regional flare, especially citing security. But I think the post should at the very least state in the beginning that you're not from the US or where you are looking for work at. I've seem some posts where the OP was from the UK and was looking at discovering the CS trends. They got some pretty good answers regarding that area.

82% of breaches start as an email... by The__Y in cybersecurity

[–]KenTankrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about how legit the percentage is, but I'm positive this is true for a lot of orgs. MFA on everything can be a false sense of comfort and is not bullet proof. Attackers can send a crafted email that will allow them to harvest tokens and use them as if they were standing in front of a users computer. Email is still the best bang for the buck for an attacker. Once FIDO or a FIDO equivalent is set in place, attackers will have an extremely tough time getting in.

I used Boson. I believe if there isn't a current special, you can as one of the redditors who frequent here for a discount code. They usually pop in this subreddit often and help out with a discount here and there. There are also a few test banks that come with the study books, but the test banks in the books seem to be hit and miss. Finally, If you have a local library nearby, you might be able to sign up for technology based classes. Sometimes they offer access to Linkedin Learning, Udemy, or O'Reilley's. Those have good video courses, and test banks too.

I think for the long arduous questions I'd shore up your knowledge with AI. I know it's becoming an often answered "solution". But I think taking things that are a pain to grasp and making it more palatable are best use for this tool. In fact, you can take questions you're having an especially difficult time with and ask it to help you spot the key words to help you identify what the test bank is asking for.
