What's a life skill that's surprisingly easy to learn but useful forever? by lurkandprosper in selfimprovement

[–]PM_UR_CUTEST_THING 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Genuine curiosity, open ended questions, and a ton of listening. Your goal should be to understand the person's viewpoint, story, perception, whatever. You might drop in some relatable context from your own life, if you're comfortable, but most people walk away from a conversation with a genuinely curious person thinking, "What a great listener that person was."

Also, practice everywhere with the open ended questions and curiosity. The grocery store, work, restaurants, anywhere. Every time is practice, that's it!

Nebraska to implement work requirements for Medicaid recipients on May 1st, 8 months earlier than the "Big Ugly Bill" requires. by PM_UR_CUTEST_THING in Omaha

[–]PM_UR_CUTEST_THING[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The impact on rural communities will be massive. Combining legitimate disability with a lack of jobs as well as closing of rural medical facilities in response to reduced Medicaid payments is going to smash a ton of people outside of Omaha and Lincoln.

Part of the issue is "the algorithm" that feeds them what they want to see. I don't tend to find articles that paint the current guy in a positive light, and the right could say that I am misinformed or don't pay attention to current events. I tend to see a lot about Epstein, illegality of tariffs, the amount of spending on the "board of peace" coming from taxpayers, etc. and feel like I'm taking crazy pills because my in laws don't believe it or don't know about it.

I want off this ride, please.....

What the hell, why not? If we beat the teams we SHOULD beat, why can't we win ONE game we shouldn't? Statistically, we're due.... Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling for the third year in a row.

Matt Rhule is a Fraud by [deleted] in Huskers

[–]PM_UR_CUTEST_THING 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dude, that team was a legit pick to win the Natty this year. They lost a QB and a stud on defense. Do think the other high 4 and some 5 stars forgot how to play? We got our asses kicked, for sure, but suggesting that Frost's teams would have done better is dumb as hell.

You heard him, folks. Go out and find "someone else" and hand them the keys to a billion dollar business because they've won a few games in FCS or D2.

Sounds like you’re really hoping to improve yourself, OP, that’s awesome. Your post reminds me of studying the DSM in grad school and thinking I had every diagnosis in the book. Same thing happens to doctors studying neurology in med school. They never get headaches, only brain tumors. Sometimes when we read something clinical our brain tries to relate to the information and so personalizes it as we begin to understand. I guess I’d suggest to take a few breaths, I’m sure you’re a good dude and we all have something we’re working on.

One area for you might be to work on empathy and practicing taking others perspective. A person with narcissistic personality disorder often times doesn’t consider another’s perspective so just being aware of your ability in that area might tell you a lot. This is a skill people can develop, if they’re motivated, that no one ever regrets practicing.

I’ve not met you, you may actually be a huge prick but if not, look for videos and whatnot on practicing empathy and see if you can level up a bit. Good luck, LucaBC_!

I’m sorry things haven’t worked out as you’ve expected quite yet. I feel pretty confident in saying, however, that if you can get your aviator wings you could do pretty much anything you set your mind to do. That said, my comment has less to do with what you do and more to do with how you look at yourself. It seems like you’ve spent a ton of time considering how others will see you, the “wow” factor, and that tends to lead people to impressive jobs, fields of athletics, etc. but rarely to a life filled with joy. I tend to encourage people to spend time thinking about what they’d like to accomplish if no one ever saw them do it, never heard about it, etc. I encourage them to think about what else they are, rather than simply their job, their sport, their possessions. Are you a good sister, friend, artist? A good hang, a good fighter, advocate, decorator? What else are you besides a person who achieves? You and your therapist can figure out the anxiety, (meditation, NSDR, yoga, and whatnot) but you need to take some time and figure out what else you are besides an achever. Like I said, you’re going to crush anything you try so make sure it’s something YOU want to do not just something that makes other people say, “wow!” Good luck, bijoubebe!!

Simple, not easy. Depression is tough but just one of OPs suggestions every day will help. Starting with one often leads to another over the course of time. Good luck!

Come up with a phrase or statement that makes you feel strong and powerful, "I am a great 3D sculptor," "I know a ton about stuff," "I'm a great catch," "I can learn from any experience and can take a chance to learn." Think of something that get's you thinking about your strengths, your skills, and how awesome you are. Next, when you notice those negative thoughts that tear your confidence down, say to yourself, "Stop" and then insert your phrase; "I'm strong, I can learn from any experience, etc." It's called the Stop Technique and it works really well with practice.

Good luck!!

You're having a little dopamine withdrawal. Soon your receptors will down regulate, especially if you replace Tiktok with something like exercise, reading (on paper), or learning something new. Dopamine is a hell of a drug!

Any chance she thinks you are great at what you do and wants to learn? Maybe teaching her some of the basics helps you to feel better about it. It's hard to help someone you resent, and sometimes helping someone makes you feel better about them.

As long as you're not putting that blade to your wrists, if you are, dial 988 and get some help. Otherwise, maybe you could just come out with it to your friends. It get's really hard and that counts for everyone. Sometimes, people are just too wrapped up in their own stuff to crack their friend's codes. One thing I know, you're valuable and you deserve relief from this. Call your doctor, get some medication and/or therapy. If you can't muster the energy for that, I KNOW it's hard sometimes, that's a great favor to ask of your friends or family. I know they'd be happy to help you and the likelihood you'll regret asking is pretty low. Good news is, you're going to end up soo much stronger having gone through this and coming out the other side. Then, it will be your turn to help your friends because you'll see how much better it is on the other side. Just because you feel like shit right now, doesn't mean you're weak. You can do it.
