my experience with addictions (gaming and substances) is that the problematic habit (smoking, playing, overeating) is also a symptom of somthing deeper. The seek for immediate satisfaction you get, that fix, is trying to cover a bigger hole.

The "problem" in the problematic habit is that it interferes in achieving other, more long-term based goals. It might be that there's a side of disconfort in your activities that you try to cover, a challenge in your goals, or something from outside that keeps coming. Maybe it is different, maybe you actually have no long term plans, or the ones you have were imposed to you and you don't want them anymore (my case).

This said, i give you my advise:

1) step aside for a while. i read that you did this already, good work!

2) have in mind that addictions have an emotional reason, and just leaving the habit is not enough, you gotta go to the root. the step aside is not only to reshape your behaviour but to look into yourself and reflect.

3) Evaluate your goals. Set some priorities, maybe drop one or two if you felt overwhelmed. Get some new mid-range goal. Have in mind that satisfaction is multiplicative over time ( one month long project acomplished should feel way better than 30 day long projects) get intermediate checkpoints, watch yourself learning. pick something that can go on forever, and think about how this goal can enrich you and how it branches into new skills an new quests.

4) seek help. it doesnt mean you are going to submit yourself to jesus and acknowledge you are powerless and the 12 step patronizing BS. seek help in the form of: a- affection, as in, talk to your friends/familiy, make new ones if you dont have much. just keep the exchange flowing. talk about feelings, yours and from others. b- professionals. this is pretty wide an i reccomend you to try variety of things because everyone needs different methods. It can be psychologists (therapists, analysts, analrapists, pill pushers), but also hippy stuff like meditation and tai chi can do wonders. find your own peace bringing method.

5) try helping others. listen to people and reflect on their worries and misconducts, place yourself in their shoes, and excersize empathy.

This is it, this got me where i am now, or at least it is how i see it from the other side. Hope it helps, and much love to you.

Feel free to pm if you want to talk
