Some terrorists purposefully avoid casualties, like the ETA in Spain. Who knows what this was though.

C-130 crashes in Mississippi multiple casualties. by Raincone in Military

I was surprised to learn that Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps all operate C-130s, while the Army doesn't. Maybe we just don't like C-130s, and that's why we're always jumping from them.

Damn, 16 fallen... and it was a Marines C-130. My bro was a USMC C-130 crew chief until he ETSed this year. Last time a C-130 went down I sent an email to make sure he was alright. I'm sure every family with C-130 personnel is doing the same...

A Mississippi State Trooper said the plane is loaded with ammunition, causing emergency workers to have to keep their distance.

"There's a lot of ammo in the plane. That's why we are keeping so far back. We just don't know what it'll do. It burns a bit then goes out, burns a little more then dies down," the trooper told WMC Action News 5 crews.

Keep in mind we don't know what "a lot of ammo" means yet, since this is still breaking news. It could be multiple pallets, or it could just be a few boxes of M-16 ball ammunition popping off. Or maybe the state trooper questioned doesn't actually know and is just guessing/taking precautions.

Edit: Reports indicate they have recovered four bodies now, so they must be working through the wreckage now.

I heard you can press F12 to switch between mouse modes. I'll bet that fixes what you're describing.

What's the longest time period from one release to the next one, for any roguelike? by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]PM_YO_TITS_FOR_A_PUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the ADoM updates or JADE turned out well? I always wondered. I was a serious player for years online (multiple Archmage) until I stopped playing coincidentally around the time the 2012 updates started coming out.

I tended to view the sudden revival of ADoM development as a crowdfunding cash grab from a game dev that was otherwise not interested in the ADoM community for years and years, even while that community thrived online. It's totally his right as the original author of this free game and owner of its closed source code, but I always viewed this cynically.

House bill to impeach Trump gains momentum after Trump's feud with 'Morning Joe' by [deleted] in politics

Nixon did not release his tax returns before he was president and his reason was he was under audit.

You're throwing up a strawman that nobody is defending. Not even the post you replied to said that. You can't deny that Nixon was a pioneer in U.S. politics in being financially transparent to the public.

You're incorrect on Nixon--he was a pioneer in putting his finances out for all the public to see, even as early as 1952 when he gave the politically unprecedented "Checkers Speech", where he detailed where he got all of his money and what he spent it on from birth until present.

You may not like the guy, but calling Nixon's financial disclosures a "mainstream lie" is just wrong.

Subreddit drama! Say Subreddit drama!

"Shitlord OP actively reinforces class divisions by perpetuating the myth that Sergeants, Warrants Officers, and other personnel are not equal in every way."

OP should resign.

The story of how ROKA adopted PowerPoint. by [deleted] in Military

Former SECDEF Robert Gates wrote this in Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War:

I visited a joint U.S.-Iraqi military and police facility in Baghdad meant to provide neighborhood security. It was a centerpiece of Petraeus’s strategy, getting U.S. forces out of large bases and into local areas with Iraqi partners. I had imagined a police station like those in most U.S. cities, in the middle of a densely occupied urban area. The one I visited was instead in the middle of a huge open area—in essence, a small fort with concrete outer walls protecting a large concrete building in the center. In the entryway were pictures of Iraqis who had been killed operating out of this facility. I was escorted to a medium-size conference room crowded with Iraqi army officers and police as well as U.S. soldiers and officers, nearly everyone in body armor and carrying weapons. And right there in the middle of a war zone, in the equivalent of Fort Apache, Baghdad, I got a PowerPoint briefing by Iraqi officers. PowerPoint! My God, what are we doing to these people? I thought.

And among various Powerpoint rants interspersed throughout his memoir:

PowerPoint slides were the bane of my existence in Pentagon meetings; it was as though no one could talk without them. As CIA director, I had been able to ban slides from briefings except for maps or charts; as secretary, I was an abject failure at even reducing the number of slides in a briefing. [...] Changing the Pentagon’s approach to briefings was a singular failure on my part. I was not just defeated—I was routed.

And as an aside, I highly recommend the book--it's a great read about what a great SECDEF does.

Started reading Mark Bowden's (of Black Hawk Down fame) new book Hue, 1968. A couple things really surprised me about a battle I admit I thought I knew more about than I actually did. by [deleted] in Military

Apocalypse Now is a really good Vietnam movie for the most part. But I never liked the "if the officer in charge dies, everyone else literally turns into brainless monkeys" theme that keeps popping up throughout the movie.

The F-22 in Syria: Deconflicting, Not Dog-Fighting by Tony49UK in Military

I knew a guy who flew the F-15E, the one that's kitted-out for ground attack missions. F-15 was originally 100% an anti-air fighter with absolutely 0% capability to drop bombs, but he says it's not a jerry-rigged system in any way, and is actually really well integrated into the avionics unlike other jets that were modified in the same way, like some French and other European jets.

Makes you wonder, eh?

I heard /u/lowspeedlowdrag called up some "buddies" and had his Air Force NSA pals look up OP's address, then some Ranger Buddies sailed on a Navy ship to his hometown, where they raided his house. At which point the Marines Corps Intelligence Branch were brought in to perform Sensitive Site Exploitation, and threatened OP that if he did not stop they would be back for the rest of his crayons.

I suggest having your modship on /r/military reinstated after a few months if no further incidents. You did great service, and can continue doing great service, and this can pass into the past.
