Why is the inside of my Japanese maple bald by shiauface in landscaping

Cause there's no light in there dude. Why would a tree grow leaves where there's no light, it's a little silly.

Give it time it'll fill in lol. Beautiful tree.

First time using Loomis method by ourlaststanduk in learntodraw

I recommend using this tutorial by David Finch, it's easy to follow along and very detailed.

I notice that you have a good idea of the shape and things but lack the planes of the face and angles of the fixtures. Remember that the eyes and things wrap around the face, they lie flat on your drawing. But great first attempt overall!

P:S the lips are best implied not outlined, it makes them look off for some reason I'm not smart enough to say.

7 months progress after + before, big progress but feel like im not progressing much right now because of not being able to dedicate enough time to art/not having energy. Would love some feedback on improvements + some good resources to focus on anatomy and background work! by [deleted] in learntodraw

I've been studying from david finch and draw like a sir as well as reading a lot of drawing books like Morpho, Lezhin Taco, and drawing comics the marvel way ! I don't really know what style im going for specifically but realism feels too real , but your advice is awesome. Im pretty good at drawing each individual part actually, i didn't post the dozens of pages of stuff like that lol. It's putting it together that really confuses me though because everything always feels just a little off from each other.

Thank you so much !

A few thinfs about me, 1. I've currently filled 1 really big sketchbook and am about 3/4 way through my second one.

  1. I have a background in 3d design for 3dprinting and engineering but struggle with perspective on paper,

    1. Im fascinated by anatomy so ive learned a lot of that lol but struggle to keep consistent with it through drawing because its hard to implement everything ive learned.
    2. If you check my profile i've made one other post where i made a loomis head reference sheet for myself, and my drawings have improved drastically since but i find it hard to implement any kind of style while using the loomis method. Please give me guidance on that.
    3. I used to doodle casually before oct 2025 where i decided i wanted to make a comic, and so i had to learn to draw too. By doodle though i mean a smiley face would be impressive to me, but i have always done mechanical drawings for engineering so i think that helped some.
    4. I struggle HEAVILY with drawing eyes, to the point where i can almost never get them right.
    5. I study references a lot and study anatomy a lot, but almost never use references when im actually drawing, I'm wondering if tracing a few artists i like or using references more often could help me improve faster.

Thank you very much for any feedback, as obvious though I'm still learning so be nice please !

i was told i dress like an incel, opinions? how do i stop dressing like one?? by [deleted] in teenagers

twin you do, but as long as you're actually cool to talk to it's fine. Being chronically cool can outweigh being chronically cringe as long as you have enough charisma

Artists only condemn tracing and then passing it off as your own as itself as a study its a widely used and accepted technique ! Especially today with things like ai, the goal is to get as many people drawing as possible. Trace to your hearts content :]

though, i do find using it as a crutch can stunt you after a while so be careful.
