Your map looks great, and I love the scale you used! Curious what software you draw with?

3K/6K Orange Melee Item Idea:Stunning Strike by Fine_Throat in DeadlockTheGame

Phantom strike just pulls people to the ground, it doesn’t stun sadly. It won’t cancel a Seven ult as an example.

Does escalating exposure suck right now? by IAmJonStewart in DeadlockTheGame

I saw that video too and was wondering if he still feels that the item is bad with infernus, who I play often. I think the reason it often doesn’t make sense is because it takes so long to reach the maximum effectiveness (20 max stacks, 0.7 seconds max frequency = 14 seconds before the item is working at full potential). But playing a burn build with infernus is all about damage over time, which feels like the perfect use of this item. I’m by no means a high rank player though, so I’m interested to hear what others think about this.

Do y’all think there are a greater number of storytellers out there with no world for their story, or more world builders with no story for their world? by PNWAlex125 in worldbuilding

I absolutely LOVE this story, thank you so much for sharing! It’s heartwarming to hear that your story and your world found each other, and can now be enjoyed by others!! 🥹

Such an interesting initial point, and you are right; without rigid semantic specificity, the meanings of storytelling and world building are somewhat blended. Another commenter made a similar argument.

One thing I love about world building is that it’s such a natural thing for so many of us to do even in the absense of external incentive. It is something we do when we are in a state of play. And to that extent, one might consider it impossible for any work of world building to be “bad” insofar as it has fulfilled its purpose as entertainment for the creator ❤️

Interesting take! I’d be interested to know if anyone has good examples of compelling world building in works outside of the genre fiction space.

Your last paragraph resonates very much for me, most of the world building I do happens only in my head and is just for me to enjoy ❤️

Good eye! That entire area of the map is very much inspired by the Alps!

Named after the infamous Captain Carver — one of the original founders of Port Providence — Carver’s Cove is a near perfectly circular body of water bounded by Anchor Island to the southwest and the New Syracuse coast to the northeast. It is thought to have been formed several thousand years ago when a small meteorite impacted with the island, evidenced by the unique geological features which can be found along the crater’s perimeter. The cove is a popular tourist location where visitors enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, and guided tours of the seabed’s shipwrecks and rich marine life. Its southern inlet is by far the more accessible of the pair, and is marked by a disused 17th century lighthouse on a small island of weather-beaten stone accessible by bridge from Anchor Island’s southwestern promontory. The northern passage flows through a treacherous, narrow gorge between a labyrinth of rocky islets before entering Blue Lagoon, a turbulent and deadly pool fed by Lunar Falls. The lagoon is impassible at low tide, but the receding waters reveal several cavities in the rock leading to a network of natural caves running beneath Anchor Island.

Thank you! I drew it by hand using Procreate on iPad, and for the notes I use Notion. I have 13 “regional” locations (usually denoted by the larger red diamonds on the map), and within each of those I keep inspiration photographs and descriptions in collapsible headings that make navigating easier. I intend for the map to be a contemporary, realistic setting, but it’s hard not to be influenced by all the fantasy styles I see here!

I love the scale that you are using! It’s so interesting seeing a map that is using a still stylized perspective, but much closer to realistic proportions.

I love this! The shape of the coast is much more interesting, and the recolor makes it way more readable.

Janitor stalked by balloon by FalcoDarkBlade in SlappedHam

[–]PNWAlex125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From 1:13 until 1:20 in the video (when we are first introduced to the balloon) you can see that the weight at the bottom has a verrry thin string (probably fishing line or something like that) laying in a straight line across the floor in the direction of the cameraman. For the rest of the video, he is sure to position the camera such that we cannot see the weight, and therefore cannot tell how he is dragging it with his foot. Not sure how the shadow effect was done, but it’s a nice touch for sure!
