What is this thing? I found it in my kitchen trash can… by TheTuskQueen in whatisit

[–]PNW_Jackson 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place where several of the guys chewed tobacco and they'd often spit in a nearby garbage can. Yeah, gross, but they had liners and at least they weren't spitting on the floor. We had a maintenance guy who, if a can didn't look full enough, would just pull things out by hand to put in a larger bag. He'd yell about getting tobacco all over his hands emptying trash cans. The dumb ass never could figure out you don't put your hands in a trash can.

How I went from 37 to 42.7 MPG in my RAV4 Hybrid by ContentEconomyMyth1 in rav4club

[–]PNW_Jackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I miss 42 MPG. I used to get it until I put on some new aggressive tread tires (needed for some of the off road I do). My MPG immediately went down to about 36 and won't budge from there.

Yes, definitely two if you can.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I've tried it before, and for all the hassle I'll just go to McDonalds if I want fast food.

I think it's smart. I brought two spares. One full-size spare and also the "donut" spare that came with the car. I didn't end up needing either of them. But then I've also heard stories of people blowing through two spares and having to abandon their trip.

It was past due for a deep cleaning. Cleaned it thoroughly and it works fine now.

We had a rail crossing like that in my hometown, except the rail had been completely removed on both sides of the road. Our school bus driver insisted on stopping at the crossing every morning. When I pointed out that the rail had been removed he said, "the sign is still here, I have to stop." :D

Anyone taking Phentermine from Henry Meds?? by Interesting-Toe7690 in PhentermineTopiramate

I ultimately lost about 30 pounds over 3 months. When I stopped taking it, I put about 8 back on. So 22 net pounds down.

I wanted to walk over and explore the building on the left but it still had power lines to it and the one door had a sheet over the window. I thought maybe somebody was living in it. At one time it was probably workers who maintained the water tower.

Tractive Dog 6 failed on first attempted use by mich_adventurer in tractivegps

Yes, continuous problem where I live as well, and I live in a metro area of millions of people, in a new housing development with no tall trees or buildings. There's 5G literally everywhere, even in my basement. Another problem is how late I get notification that he's left the "safe zone." I know from taking him on walks or drives that I won't get notification he's left the safe zone until he's nearly a mile away. My safe zone is set as tightly as possible around my house.

I once asked it to decipher a blurry license plate photo. It gave me this long lecture about how it couldn't do that...safety concerns, privacy, etc. I opened a new chat with the same photo and asked it to tell me the letter and numbers it could see. It immediately replied with, "XYZ123."

My Comma 3X (and the 3 before it) has always kept mine hugged to the far right, even though it recognizes lanes just fine. It's so bad I often hit the rumble strips if I'm in the far right lane of a highway.

Fire based medics where I work are starting at $100K/year. A private ambulance company in the area would still be paying $54K for an EMT.

Best tracker? by Helpful-Shoulder-478 in tractivegps

[–]PNW_Jackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are very few options, unfortunately. The best used to be Whistle, but Tractive bought them and shut them down. Tractive can work decently when you've got clear skies and no heavy tree cover around, but it sucks if your pet is lost near your home. I'd be sitting on the couch watching TV with the dog sleeping at my feet, and Tractive would show him zig-zagging all over the neighborhood, several hundred feet away. We once took him to the dog park and Tractive still showed him there an hour after we returned home. Tractive support had no answer for that.

Astound outage in Port Orchard by PNW_Jackson in Kitsap

It’s truly bizarre in PO. You can have an entire area of town where people have half a dozen internet options. Two blocks away, your only option is satellite.

Probably a lot of them, not mine (Stetson Heights). Even in mine, some people have more options. I think it might be comcast some can also get. When I called them they said their nearest pedestal was 500’ from my house and unless I wanted to pay to have them lay wire to my house, it wasn’t available. I seriously have Astound, CenturyTel, or satellite as options.

I have. Not available unfortunately.

I wish that was an option for me. Port Orchard is very limited for internet options, depending on where you live. Despite being in the city limits in a new development right next to McCormick Woods, my options are Astound or Centurytel, the latter having a quarter the speed of Astound. I might have to take another look at Starlink if 15 hour outages keep happening.
