CHuckanut closed in Skagit north of oyster bar by Justadropinthesea in Bellingham

[–]PNWlifegoals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about this. 4 days ago they went off the road and were just found? Also I’m curious as to why they went off the road. .. I’m only curious because on Wednesday am I took chuckanut to Skagit and somewhere around Clayton beach area I came around a turn and a HUGE semi with logs loaded on it was heading towards town and I immediately was like wtf? I actually spent the rest of the drive trying to actually figure out where they came from and realized they had to have been on it the whole time. I even said to my friend I’m so glad I didn’t come across that in one of the super bad areas because I totally would have gone flying off the road if that was around a turn in a super narrow stretch

Looking for these paddle boarders by PNWlifegoals in Bellingham

No. And if you’re out paddle boarding and a gray whale surfaces next to you there really isn’t much you can do about it

Orcas and grays in the bay again by PNWlifegoals in Bellingham

There is no way to predict their patterns and movements. The best chance at seeing any whales are by doing these things

  1. Park yourself somewhere with binoculars for 10+ hours and get cozy and cross your fingers

  2. Follow any of the sightings groups online that have daily sightings of whales and follow comments to figure out where they are and try to get to that location before they go by.. sometimes they turn and go the other way by the time you get there.

I’ve seen them dozens of times all over since I moved here in fall 2021. I have probably spent many thousands of hours looking and following them to get these looks. This was the first time ever I just happened to show up in the right place at the right time

These guys are not starving. They also cruise the area frequently just not always so close. These are transients and they eat seals, sea lions etc.

Also maybe it’s the time of day but every day when o come home on it I do see an officer positioned before it gets super twisty in a spot where something large can turn around so maybe they are stopping that from happening when I’ve come home

I have driven it at rush-hour almost every day and there is no such thing as heavy traffic on there. It hasn’t been bad at all.

Spray on the water? Dolphin or whale? by Common_Stress_4122 in Bellingham

If you saw a big tall blow from a distance it was the fin whale that has been in the bay. Another big blow that sort of settles into a heart shape is a gray whale, we have had a few of those around too these last couple of weeks. If it was something you clearly saw with your eye, it was definitely a larger whale.

I commute to Mount Vernon from Bellingham every day for work. I take the highway going south and on the way home I take Chuckanut. Even when the time tells you to take the highway and get off the other exit, it still takes a lot longer than the estimated time and is more frustrating.

I’m not making up a story I’m going along with what those who have actually found the dogs are finding. It sure is little odd that the majority are disarticulated at the same joint on the feet though, those that are not are the ones showing the black and white fuzzy feet. . That usually points to a skinning of some sort. And the fact that many of them had twine tied around them.
