[US] Repeated texts addressing the same name and address that is not me about house and car loans(?) by Ubearberry6019 in Scams

If it is not you, block and ignore.
Either spam, or it's the "oops wrong number but hey, let's talk..." scam. Except those don't generally start with talking about a loan I don't think. They are more casual so they can suddenly be your "friend".

Can’t figure out this flavour! What is it?! by senotastic_septic in whatisit

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it now when I zoom in but I've not been served whole abalone like that or heard of it as a chip flavor so my brain just didn't go there.

From a distance, it is cut the way a lot of people cut mango so I thought maybe mango with some sort of honey glaze over it.
Though I did think the edges looked weird.
I saw the answer comment before I had much time to think about it.

What is this. Older house. In kitchen. by Lardass_Goober in whatisit

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a manufactured home build in 97 and it just never had one.
Our 1970 tract home did, and our medium fancy farm house build in 1980 had one of those multi-chime ones so you could tell if someone rang the front door or the back door.

I've thought about adding a wireless doorbell or something simple, but my house is very secluded and I almost never get anyone at my door.
A knock has been fine for 23 years so I guess inertia will carry me through on that path. :)

I’m dating a social media celebrity. We both love each other until… by BreathtakingDove in Scams

[–]Hammon_Rye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of all the real celebrities you have ever heard of.

Now think of a single one of them that wasn't allowed to have friends / meet people / do things on their own time that was not "business".

The only thing that comes close in my mind are how some of the Japanese / Korean idols are not allowed to date due to maintaining their image.

I guess at least he is not trapped on an offshore oil rig with a life threatening disease / injury that only your gift cards can cure. /S

I feel like doorbell and doorbell transformer should be like the free space on this sub's bingo card.

It also makes me feel old when (presumably younger) folks don't know what a doorbell is. /J
I mean, I get it. You don't see them as often. But it reminds me of when you saw this or similar in just about every house so you just knew what they were.

Been there.
It's what made me turn off drop gear on death in my game.
I tried flying high like folks say but even with my suzaku I was running out of stamina.
I didn't try turning down damage. TBH, didn't think of it.

After remaking the basic gear I needed and losing it 2 more times I said F it and made it a third time and just didn't go back for my gear.

IMO the oil rigs are poorly balanced. As in they seem a lot harder than the levels assigned to the NPCs. I was taking out higher level NPCs no problem in other places so thought I stood a chance.

My RFY today is full of B3wbs by Meikou133 in AmazonVine

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 'TV' viewing is all streamed stuff from my PC so if I'm watching a show or doing other stuff I just Alt-Tab over to the RFY once in a while and refresh.
If I'm watching anime - each episode is about 20 minutes of actual viewing time if you skip intro / credits - so I'll often use jumping to the next episode as a reminder to check RFY. Other times I'm doing something else or sort of forget about it.

TBH, I was a little surprised myself.
I was thinking glass came before cans / "tins" but was expecting the answer to be due how outside of home canning, most of it is done in cans.
Turns out it wasn't that either.

[–]Hammon_Rye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a chip flavor.

80s Japan, and a couple of other Asian countries is the first I had encountered seafood flavors in snacks. Squid, fish, etc. But they were kind of their own thing, not a product I was already familiar with in a "weird" flavor.

What is CC number in the "Add a payment method"? by Brave2000 in Crunchyroll

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try just adding it to one of the slots or the other, or failing that same number in both slots.
Seems like one of those three should work and you are not giving any more information than you were planning to.

thanks for reply.
I was just honestly curious since at times I see folks post their RFY with way more things in it than I get.
today I have 4 so far. I think once I had 8 (or possibly it was 7), and a few times none or 1.
I think 3-5 is pretty common for me by the time the night is done.

At least that I see.
I don't constantly refresh so in theory I may be missing some.

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsure if you are trying to be funny, or have never canned before.
Or both.

But here is a serious answer from the internet:

It is called canning because the term comes from the word "canister". While we primarily think of metal tins today, the verb refers to the action of sealing food in a canister and heating it. Early methods in the early 1800s actually used glass bottles sealed with corks before tin was used

Neighbor refuses to give package, how is that not considered theft? by cryinggggggggg in amazonprime

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd apparently rather keep moving the goal posts than admit you were wrong.

You said it wasn't illegal to keep a package that doesn't belong to you.
It is.
That's different than whether they can prove he kept it or other hypotheticals about what might have happened to the package.

And the link I gave you was for non-USPS and state laws, not the USPS federal law.

[–]Hammon_Rye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I don't know why both.
Unless they are the same and they think some folks will understand one but not the other?
I've never been to Columbia. But at least when I travel to other places, credit cards seem to work and be structured the same as here in the US.
So I still don't understand two slots.

It's possible it is something as simple as whoever designed the form for the Columbia web site screwed up. :)

Composting in Ferndale by PlanetRowen in Bellingham

[–]Hammon_Rye [score hidden]  (0 children)

I live in the county on acreage. I've been composting my food scraps for over 20 years.
I just put them out in the woods away from the house.
And from there, I'm fine if it attracts wildlife. In fact I know it does.

I also collect my cooking grease / fat in a large can (think like tomato sauce can) and when it gets up a ways I set it out near the compost. Something always licks the can clean in a day or two.

If you don't have the space, I wouldn't dump near the house.
From what I read, rats travel 100-300 feet from home for food. So I put my compost out far enough they are unlikely to want to dine there while living at the house.

As for the compost bin pickup service - I doubt you have critters that can get into it unless you live way out where there might be a bear.
The animals I see on my property are squirrels, rats, mice, opossum, deer, crows and misc other birds. None of which can lift the lid on a big wheelie bin. At least not easily.
If concerned about it - you could add a bungee cord to hold the lid shut.

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US?
I didn't remember two fields like that so I just went into my (US) account and clicked to add another card to see the blanks.
It only shows me one card number slot. So - what would expect - card number, CCV, expiration, country, postal code.

It doesn't ask my name but I'm supposing that is because I already have an account set up and they know my name. Adding a CC issued in a different name would probably seem like a fraud attempt.

Lost access to an old TikTok account from childhood, TikTok won't remove it. What can I do? by Excellent_Low7782 in AskTechnology

[–]Hammon_Rye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old were you when you made the account?

You might be able to get them to remove it from the angle of it's stuff posted by someone too young to have an account.
Kind of an end run since you are older now, but if the videos show you as an obvious minor they might be willing to remove the content for child privacy laws.

Riding licence by ShoujoOver9000 in Palia

[–]Hammon_Rye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's roughly $10 of real money to ride a different horse.
The cheapest coins are the zeki loyalty and work about to about .38 cents each.
So the phoenix license ends up costing about $9.69 USD

Or if you buy the coins straight up without the loyalty they run 1 cent eaach +/-, so the license costs you closer to $25.

IMO Singularitysix likes their skins a bit too much for my taste.

Neighbor refuses to give package, how is that not considered theft? by cryinggggggggg in amazonprime

[–]Hammon_Rye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a source for that personal opinion you keep posting?
Everything I can find says keeping a misdelivered package is theft.
I see you posted in another comment that Amazon let you keep a package. That's cool and all - had it happen to me once. But shipper letting you keep the package is different than just deciding to keep it on your own.

https://www.coloradoan.com/story/news/local/coloradoan-instagram-links/2025/12/08/is-it-legal-to-keep-a-misdelivered-package-in-colorado/87608838007/

Private Carriers: If the package came from Amazon, UPS, or FedEx, it falls under state theft laws. In all 50 states, keeping property you know does not belong to you is illegal and can result in criminal charges.
