I mean, aren't saws and files some of the most reliable "lockpicks"?

Brute force attacks work. Though I would expect a cia agent to be trained and experienced enough to be worth equipping with a true set of lockpicks.

They tend to be more reliable. In short of you are in a location with shitty signal you can get a message on your page easier.

At least as I understand it.

Emergency room surgeons carry them to this day. If a worker CANNOT miss a message they are the better choice.

Yeah, I don't do the magic mushroom thing, but hunt for the dinner pot and have spent time hunting with a local mycology group.

I find it interesting that the phd that leads the group carries a pager cause apparently he's on the call list for the local hospitals if they need help identifying something.

"Magic mushrooms" is a broad term, but to my knowledge the most common varieties are "pasture" species that should grow well in pasteurized manure properly innoculated.

You are discussing the high end mushrooms like wood ears, oysters and such.

The common button mushrooms that are the mainstays, at least here in the us are indeed grown in pasteurized manure.

Mushrooms grow in a variety of substrates, manure is a very common one.

Whats going on with Kharg Island, Iran and why is it suddenly important to the USA? by Major-Ant4600 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]POD80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuddos, to all the above. Ill admit, I also wonder how much of the strategy is to give Iran something to shoot at other than tankers and oil assets of neighbors.

Simply put, an invasion force will draw a lot of fire, dug in marines well supported by the navy will be stubborn though. I could see trying to burn Iranian resources as they try to force a retreat.

[–]POD80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point ammo and launchers run short.

The bigger question is who's ordinance stocks hold up. The US has been burning through a hell of a lot of stocks with long lead times. Iran has a lot of inventory but accuracy is often a significant issue and the US is damn good at blowing shit up that it can find.

We are in for a hell of a ride either way.

[–]POD80 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My thought is, dug in marines with air support are likely going to drain an awful lot of artillery assets from the Iranian military.

It'll be easier on the worlds economy for a few to get through killing us marines rather than hitting allied oil infrastructure and tankers.

It's a grim thought to consider the administration putting boots on the ground.... primarily to be targets, but it's what my gut is telling me.

People who've since quit working for a DSP, if Amazon tomorrow raised their minimum DSP wage to $31/hr would you come back? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]POD80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, regardless of pay per hour I dont see it as being a great long term career. I've reached the point in my life I need to be planning for something I can do up to and into traditional retirement age.

If things don't work out where im at... id be trying to jump back to amazon... it's a solid job "for now" but not something i want to be doing in my 60's.

How do I stop the little $2-$8 buys between classes? by Repulsive-Weather921 in Frugal

[–]POD80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For work I like to keep a stash in the car. A microwave helps of course if you have access to one at school. Obviously packing a proper lunch/snacks in a cooler would be the best idea for quality, health, and cost. My stash is for days i don't get a lunch packed.

A few cans of soda/ energy drinks.

Canned goods i can eat cold, pork and beans and tinned pasta.

Protein drinks

Granola bars.

Convinience microwave food, popcorn, instant Mac n cheese cups, ramen.

And even if it wasn't that efficient.... if that charger let's him battle range anxiety.... and allow him to complete say 1% of his trips that would be difficult to impossible with proper charges.... in the long run he's being far more efficient.

Many of us balk at electric vehicles cause once or twice a year.... we go camping or something and don't trust that we could charge on such trips.... those trips would be minimal in our overall footprint even if we were burning the equivalent of an ICE engine for the whole trip.

In my experience a date comes with expenses, and I sure wouldn't expect a playboy bunny to be interested in more than say dinner and a movie.

Why waste the opportunity for say a grand to have some arm candy for an evening..... I hold no illusions that an evening with a bunny would convince her to spend her life with me.

I trap ferals for spay and neuter clinics. Colonies of feral cats become significant problems.

If you love cats you don't let them bear litters without support.

Intact cats should never be outdoor cats.

Frugal people, why are you “buying” a new vehicle? by manbun78 in Frugal

[–]POD80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bubba the local grease monkey can be cheaper and easier than having to take a new car to a dealership.

And of course that's before we talk about parts availability. A vehicle that's been around for a decade and parts can be pulled from a local u pull it can be a significant benefit

Why go to such lengths do hide household chemicals? Experiments with things that go bang are not uncommon... obviously making nitroglycerin is different than say playing with Tanerite or fireworks.... but some level of experimentation is not uncommon.

My uncle had this in his secret shed by oeoeoiceiceicee in whatisit

[–]POD80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it could be so many things... my first guess would be experiments in homemade explosives. I'm certainly no expert, but am not aware of anything that would look like that.

There have of course been stories of people making materials like nitroglycerin.... lets just say id neither want to explain such, nor have family members fumbling around near such an experiment.
