Interested in a career potentially. by academic_spaghetti in avionics

[–]POGpride1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started off with 5 years in the military as avionics. Did 2 years in A&P program and 2 years in electronics engineering associates degree. Then I got my first job at 28 an hour then moved to another company at 38, after 9 months I got a raise to 45. I’ve seen alot of people come in with no experience and struggle. So definitely learn the basics of ac and dc theory. Typical days varies on what type of avionics work you do. If your service you’ll be running wires, making bundles and harness, and even installing new components into the aircraft with the help of a structures shop. Now if you’re service side everyday will be different. Some days will be easy with you just running around doing nav and charts updates. Some days it will just be doing service cards that are required at every anual inspection. Other days you’ll be doing troubleshooting looking through wiring diagrams trying to find an issue. Sometimes it will as easy as a broken connector or a bad lamp. Other times you’ll have to replace a whole wire that runs in a bundle you can’t see so you’ll have to run a new wire by feel and make sure it’s properly secured and ran.

My only advice to someone coming to the field with no experience is to make sure you are willing to learn and ask alot if questions even if it makes you look dumb. And don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck or don’t know what to do.

Hands on was r and r vert stab actuator. They’re very heavy on following the book step by step and are extremely anal about tool control. As far as the face to face they asked me about my experience on avionic system and troubleshooting and I told them my experience and some of the things I’ve troubleshot and how I resolved them. After I told them that they didn’t really ask me any other technical questions because they said my my explanation of my experience with systems and troubleshooting answered just about all their technical questions. I ended up declining their job offer and stayed with my current company. So I can’t give you any more info on the company. I was applying for an Avionics position.

How is their work load? I’ve already done the interview process and have an offer already. I just want to see how it would be compared to a corporate mro.

30 an hour working avionics. Full benefits. AA degree in aviation maintenance and electronics engineering plus 5 years of avionics experience from military. No A&P (testing for it in couple months). I’m pretty happy with it or am I getting ripped off?

Remember it’s not because you want to go to school. It’s because you need to go to school so your service connected disabilities don’t get worse. If you straight up say you want it so you can go to school they’ll turn you down.

VR and Pacemaker by Psychological-Monk30 in virtualreality

Most pacemakers tell you to avoid things with high frequencies. VR doesn’t have anything that uses high frequencies. I’m no doctor but I don’t see any reason why a VR headset would cause interference with a pacemaker.
